Chapter 49: Riding through the war zone City
CHAPTER 49: RIDING THROUGH THE WAR ZONE CITY
The vehicle tilted to a halt in their direction. The wheels roared and spun very loudly as they stopped in front of Julian and the soldiers.
Julian couldn’t be happier; he stared at the mech soldiers who gave themselves high fives.
"C’mon in," Rehul said to them.
They all hopped in the vehicle, which had a backseat large enough to accommodate them all.
But Julian chose to sit behind Rehul, at the front seat.
"She your girlfriend?" one of the funny soldiers in mech asked.
Julian grinned under his helmet. He wouldn’t let them have the impression that he was in love with anybody, and so, he simply said, feigning this cool accent—’steeze’ accent:
"Nah, she’s just my partner."
Rehul looked at Julian from the side of her right eye. She was just a partner, alright.
She zoomed the car past the heart of the alien city.
Julian had been expecting this planet—with all the tech stuff they had—to be neon-like, but to his surprise, it actually wasn’t.
They seemed normal. Not much fancy technology, even though they had crazy weapons and spaceships.
It wasn’t that they didn’t have fancy houses.
They did, actually, but it was not as fancy as he had expected it to be.
The reason proved to be obvious, by the way. It was simply because this was a ruthless galaxy, where you could be on your own and just like that, get unexpectedly invaded by some weird, brutal planet you didn’t know about.
Julian could only imagine what he would face in this galaxy. And he was happy to explore, by the way.
At least he was living up to his name of being the Galactic Knight.
As Rehul tossed the wheels of the vehicle through the sandy ground, Julian stared at the dead bodies of soldiers teeming on the ground.
He remembered the Drayyorsain commander who had been brutally murdered. It was quite some memory—seeing someone as brave as that just fall and die.
He had honestly been expecting a bit of a crazy fight showdown between two galaxy commanders.
But then, he was quick to learn that the good guys are the ones who die so easily.
Rehul’s rough driving brought him out of thinking and back to what was happening.
She was swerving the vehicle steering like it was motion itself.
She would swerve and ’twerve’ and ’lewrve’ like a maniac.
Julian was impressed with her driving. It was simply pure adrenaline.
He noticed that Rehul was just someone who would give out crazy adrenaline no matter what she did.
Whether it was sucking or riding his length, she was sure to give him a good crazy time. And the same applied to the steering of this vehicle.
She was defying the laws of physics.
She turned to a corner now, the vehicle scraping against the side of a building. The buildings in question were a mixture of iron and steel.
By the looks of it, one could bet that it couldn’t fall.
It was simply something that looked stable.
But as they went further down the city, they saw many reduced to debris.
All the while, the soldiers in mech sitting behind Rehul and Julian had been instructing Rehul in particular on where to turn and where not to turn to.
Soon, they had covered quite a distance, and from what the mech soldiers were saying, it was pretty clear that they still had a very long distance to cover.
Julian looked at the sky now, trying to find out the difference between the store spaceship and see how they were progressing in the skies.
As it looked like, more spaceships were coming and even more battleships, all from the opposition.
It got Julian thinking.
Why was it so?
He thought the opposition were poor in spaceships, battle vehicles, and even battleships.
So what the fuck was happening?
How the fuck were more crazy-looking spaceships and battleships descending from the sky?
And just when Julian thought it was going to get worse, he looked through the window and saw large-looking battleships coming from that direction.
Julian couldn’t comprehend the reality of what was happening anymore. And by the looks of it, the Drayyors were slowly losing their battleships and vehicles.
He told one of the soldiers, the one who had been proving to be the most serious out of them all.
"Why are the opposition now having more spaceships?"
The soldier he talked to stared at him in disbelief, and as if to confirm, he looked out of the window and to the grey clouds.
"The fuck!" he said. "Damn! Damn!"
The other soldiers followed suit, looking out the window to say the same thing:
"The fuck!?"
"Damn!"
"Damn!"
Boom!
The fall of an enormous bomb stuff at their front.
An explosion!
Thank goodness Rehul wasn’t driving like a maniac like she had previously been doing, or else the bomb would have exploded right at the vehicle.
But an explosion was an explosion, if it wasn’t on them or not. An explosion was sure to cause its damage, and right now, it was doing just that—causing the damn damage!
A gust of fierce, hot wind tore with that explosion, and with tearing, it shot the vehicle backwards.
The luck they had was that they were all wearing the mech stuff, unless...
Damn!
But Rehul wasn’t wearing one, and that was a huge disadvantage.
Midair, Julian plunged himself towards Rehul. He did so with precision, like if he didn’t, she would die. And while that was not entirely true, it might—because the vehicle had many rough spots—and it was certain if she didn’t die, she would be badly injured, and that might lead to death.
In Julian’s vision, it was all slow motion. Him gliding through the air, hands stretching forward, trying to reach Rehul.
It had been unexpected, and in that slow motion state, Julian could see her trying to open her mouth.
He could see her trying to say something. Perhaps not words. It seemed she was trying to shout.
Julian wouldn’t let her fall.
The car somersaulted in the air, and during those somersaults, Julian had kicked the door that led to her seat open.
He rolled in the air, and holding her by the hand, he pushed her downwards.
Having done that, he looked at the soldiers. They weren’t wearing the helmet ones, and on their faces were silly and absurd-looking expressions.
Like they were trying to laugh, cry, or... he didn’t know.
They were not his business, by the way. His business had been settled, and now, it was time for things to be as they were before.
It was time for the landing.
He hoped Rehul hadn’t landed with force though. Even though she did, he knew she would be safe.
He had faced much more menacing things than this to be bothered.
He didn’t know how he earlier saw things in slow motion, by the way.
He decided he would ask Xea later.
And so, things returned back to normal.
He was expecting a crash, a crazy crash.
He knew he wouldn’t be affected by it, as he was well covered with the mech suit, his helmet on even.
But what about the soldiers who weren’t with their helmets on?
He was expecting at least one to die...
