Chapter 52 - 51: Bloodline Perception
CHAPTER 52: CHAPTER 51: BLOODLINE PERCEPTION
Wu Liang’s advance was completely unstoppable.
All the bodies in the village that were still conscious were slaughtered by him one after another, chopped into pieces all over the ground, causing an appalling sight.
Thus, he moved forward relentlessly to the shrine.
He looked up at this place he hadn’t been to in who knows how many years—
Blue bricks and black tiles, with climbing ivy hanging down the walls, complementing the shrine’s tranquil environment, the door three meters high and two meters wide, extraordinarily large, with a plaque above inscribed in gold with the words "Merciful Salvation."
The stone pillars around the hall are engraved with exquisite patterns, and the altar of dark wood is still filled with a large amount of offerings and burning incense candles, even the air is filled with the scent of the incense.
"Ha, everyone has always been so devout, respecting the God Buddha." Wu Liang said disdainfully.
This shrine was the most important building in the entire village, and the maintenance and construction efforts done daily were evident at a glance.
Some even believed that during the great calamity, the village remained intact thanks to the blessing of Bodhisattva Guanyin, and thus put more effort into its upkeep.
But it turns out that the source of the village’s demise was here; one can only say that the world is unpredictable.
With a casual swing, Wu Liang grasped the rusted Kitchen Knife Ghost.
He suddenly leaped towards the statue of Guanyin before the altar with its plump, serene, and compassionate face and hacked at it.
Clang—crack—
A crisp breaking sound occurred, the originally benevolent Guanyin statue was shattered, revealing that the inside was not solid!
It had been hollowed out!
An indescribable stench surged from the broken gap of the statue, followed by a thick and red-black blood flowing out.
Dripping on the altar, it made the solemn and majestic shrine instantly filthy.
Boom—
Before Wu Liang could continue his rampage, the entire Guanyin statue suddenly collapsed, its inner gore bursting out like a flood breaking through a dam.
Fortunately, Wu Liang possessed remarkable agility, instantly retreating from the shrine under the escort of the Fierce Ghosts.
Looking at the already completely destroyed Guanyin statue, as he was about to leave, a distant and hoarse voice came from the ground: "Destroying body and breaching the statue, you won’t die a good death..."
"Puhahaha! Corpse Concealing Ghost, huh? Have you been in the Guanyin statue for too long? Did you actually think you were a God Buddha?" Wu Liang burst out laughing.
Looking at the ground, it turned out that the face of the already broken Guanyin statue was squirming, speaking.
"I know you’re in a rush, but don’t rush yet, let me destroy all the bodies outside first, I want to see how hard you’ll keep talking." Wu Liang turned and was about to leave.
He knew from the Ghost Compendium that this Guanyin statue was only part of eliminating the Corpse Concealing Ghost; unless all bodies were destroyed, it could come back to life anytime.
But at his remark, the Guanyin statue eerily spoke: "Child of a yellow mouth! I have sensed the smell of your bloodline; when I find your blood relatives, I’ll ensure your suffering is unbearable!"
Seeing nearby remaining bodies were surrounding the shrine, Wu Liang was too lazy to find them himself, instead waving his hand to let the Fierce Ghosts handle them.
He then sat down on the steps, watching the slaughter by the Fierce Ghosts with an unperturbed expression:
"Find my blood relatives? Sorry, I’m alone, my blood relatives passed before me, and you’re about to follow suit."
Wu Liang was an only child, both his parents passed away five years ago, so the Corpse Concealing Ghost’s threat seemed trivial to him, almost mocking.
To this, the Guanyin statue’s fragments remained silent.
Yet a woodcutter not far away said with a ferocious face: "Utter nonsense..."
It was evident the Corpse Concealing Ghost had escaped from the Guanyin statue, reanimating through a body.
Swish—
Unfortunately, as soon as it uttered four words, the Kitchen Knife Ghost tore it into pieces.
"Alone in the world? Do you think you can deceive my perception like that?" The woodcutter’s side suddenly a grandpa grinned sinisterly and spoke.
Nightmare’s claw pierced the entire corpse making it unable to rise again.
But the child curled in the corner sinisterly said: "I can clearly perceive that your parents, your two blood relatives, are still alive in the world, safe and sound!"
"When I break free and find them, I will surely make them into flesh puppets and bring them before you to torment them!"
Boom—
Wu Liang suddenly sprang up in front of the child’s body, punching it into pieces while also cracking the floor tiles with his blow.
"Say that again?"
"Perceive my parents still alive?"
At this point, Wu Liang’s tone held a slight tremor.
Frankly, he felt it was likely just the Corpse Concealing Ghost trying to confuse him, as every villager’s pre-death memory knew his parents were deceased.
Since the Corpse Concealing Ghost could make villagers’ bodies live like before, saying the most provocative words was possible.
But... what if?
Wu Liang also remembered the Ghost Compendium said, this Corpse Concealing Ghost could trace the existence of the target’s blood relatives.
Could it have really sensed his parents were alive?
"Afraid now? Regret now? Your repentance is too late!" Even the bodies buried in graves for years, rotted beyond recognition, were speaking threats through the Corpse Concealing Ghost.
Listening to him... he didn’t seem to be bluffing?!
Wu Liang looked at his hands, clenched them tightly, feeling the somewhat bloody wet real touch, he confirmed he wasn’t dreaming.
"My parents are still alive!"
This news struck Wu Liang like a thunderbolt, causing his originally unperturbed emotions to start fluctuating.
The Corpse Concealing Ghost must be caught and interrogated thoroughly!
Perhaps its ability could truly lead him to his parents, who had "died" five years ago!
"All ghosts heed my command! Leave a single body for it to possess, I need to ask it something..."
Wu Liang took a deep breath and stood up, looking ahead at the blood-red hellish scenery, he resolutely stepped forward to liberate the bodies.
The entire village consisted of around thirty households, altogether a hundred or so people.
With the efficiency of him and his Fierce Ghost Minions, they’d at most take half an hour to resolve them all.
As for hiding... it cannot do that!
The entire village has already been enveloped by the Mist Ghost, which is familiar with the location of each body, even buried underground can’t escape the Mist Ghost’s perception.
After the Corpse Concealing Ghost was caught and only possessed the last body, all the information it knew must be extracted!
If the information was true, he’d have another year to find them.
Wu Liang dared not guarantee that after the second great calamity, he’d still have a chance to find his parents.
What supernatural event did they encounter back then? How did they survive? Why haven’t they appeared in society for the past five years?
Besides these doubts, Wu Liang had countless questions he wanted answers to.
If possible, he hoped those answers could be personally given by his parents...
