After Allison got out of the hospital, she dove straight back into work, spending her days and nights untangling the Fisher Corporation cases.

These weren''t your average cases, either-they were big, messy, and high stakes, with thick stacks of evidence to sort through. Even though someone had already organized everything once, Allison insisted on going over every single file herself, just to be sure.

Allison was nothing if not driven. The moment she was discharged, she threw herself into work, barely stopping to catch her breath. Most nights, she stayedte at the firm, her office glowing long after everyone else had gone home.

One night, her phone rang.

"Miss Carter, Grant still refuses to sign the divorce agreement. He tore it up. This afternoon, he and Cindy got into another huge fight. Cindy''s already hired Patricia to represent her for the divorce."

Allison stood at her office''s floor-to-ceiling windows on the twenty-second floor, looking out at the city sparkling with neon lights. In the ss, she caught a glimpse of her own reflection-calm,posed, not a hair out of ce.

"Alright, I got it," she said.

She hung up and immediately printed out a new set of client contracts and authorization forms.

With her car keys in hand, Allison locked up the firm for the night and stepped into the elevator. Brooklyn, her assistant, followed behind.

Allison pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

"Hello?" Grant''s voice came through, sharp and impatient.

"Mr. Reynolds, it''s Allison."

"What do you want?" His irritation was obvious. "Haven''t you already messed up our family enough?"

Shawn''s suicide attempt had left Grant with nothing but resentment for Allison. Andtely, Cindy hadn''t stopped telling him that Allison was the reason the Reynolds Group had gone bankrupt. Grant''s dislike for Allison had turned into outright hatred.

He snapped, "You set us up, tanked ourpany-are you calling just to kick us while we''re down?"

Allison let out a softugh, her voice steady and cool. "You''ve got it all wrong, Mr. Reynolds. I''m actually calling to help. I heard Cindy''s pushing for a divorce. I can

represent you if you want."

Grant scoffed. "Why would you do that? You already destroyed us. Why should I trust you?"

"Mr. Reynolds," Allison replied, her tone unruffled, "there''s something you should understand."

She continued, voice even and

matter-of-fact, "The Reynolds Group

didn''t go under because of me.

Shawn made a bad call on a big project lost a ton of money, and the cash flow dried up. The project copsed, and instead of making money, thepany ended up owing huge penalties. Normally, all of that debt would stay with thepany. After bankruptcy, Shawn wouldn''t have to pay a dime himself. But here''s the problem-Shawn abused his position, mixed up personal andpany funds, and hurt the creditors. ording to corporatew, the court can ignore the corporate veil, and hold Shawn personally responsible."

"You run apany yourself, Mr. Reynolds. I''m sure you know exactly what I''m talking about."

There was a long pause on the other end of the line.

The elevator dinged as it reached the parking garage.

Allison stepped out and walked over to her white Rolls Royce. She tossed the keys to Brooklyn.

"Mr. Reynolds, think you should put your personal feelings aside. My record speaks for itself—I''ve been practicing for three years, I''ve won more cases than I can count, and I hardly ever lose. If you want someone who can actually handle your divorce, I''m your best bet."

Grant''s tone finally softened a little. "Why would you even want to take my case?"

Brooklyn opened the back door for her.

Allison slid into the car, a hint of a smile on her lips. "Because I don''t want Cindy

to get out of this marriage so easily."

Sheughed, her voice light. "Honestly, seeing her unhappy works just fine for me."
