Global Wasteland: I Obtained A Top Tier Shelter
Chapter 140 - 141: Midnight, Sneaking into Danger!
CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 141: MIDNIGHT, SNEAKING INTO DANGER!
Midnight.
In the Otherworld, around every shelter, the mutated creatures once again fell into a frenzy just like every other night.
They feared sunlight, loved the darkness, and under the mysterious power of the two moons, became insanely frenzied.
Most of the survivors in the shelters had already chosen to rest early, conserving their strength in hopes of finding a way to combat the dual disasters the next day.
But in places like this desert, wilderness, forest, and valley, the earth surface also had many black openings from which creatures covered in green scales but standing upright like humans kept emerging.
Some even rushed out from the stone doors!
However, in large numbers and quite noticeable in the night, these green Lizardmen were not attacked by any mutated creatures, and all the mutated creatures seemed to avoid them like something terrifying.
These monsters, wielding stone weapons, headed straight for the shelters; for them, there was no better food than the survivors...
Meanwhile.
Lin Yue and Bai had already returned from the Lizardmen’s kitchen to the crossroads and without much hesitation, Lin Yue headed towards the complex maze-like direction on the right side which they had not yet explored.
The passage was quite dim, so Lin Yue took out his Night Vision Device and replaced the Sighting Scope on his Alloy Compound Crossbow.
In this kind of environment, this was obviously more suitable.
"I spent 800 survival points back then, can’t just leave it unused."
To be honest, Lin Yue never thought he would use this thing, after all, he usually never goes out at night.
However, in this underground space, the usefulness of the Night Vision Device was unquestionable.
His naked eyesight couldn’t see what was at the end of the passage, but with the Night Vision Device it was completely different.
But speaking of it, this right-side road was somewhat different from what he expected.
The passage he walked on was indeed spacious and looked like a main road, but the spider-web-like branch roads shown on the map appeared terribly narrow in reality, not only Bai but even he would have a hard time squeezing through.
Let alone those Lizardmen.
So Lin Yue did not go to explore, as it seemed meaningless.
"The current exploration progress for Zone F is 11.2%? That seems a bit low. It seems unless I have Bolt’s speed, it’s absolutely impossible to map out the entire area quickly today."
Lin Yue muttered to himself, realizing he increasingly enjoyed speaking his thoughts out loud lately.
Even when only Bai was around.
"Gawu." Bai had already gotten used to it, but after walking forward a few more minutes, it suddenly "Gawu" again.
Lin Yue immediately went into combat mode, eyes on the Night Vision Device, aiming at the passage’s end.
"Sa! Sa..." An unfortunate Lizardman holding a torch suddenly appeared in front of the passage, seemingly coming from the previous turn, but before it could finish its strange "Sa" sound, it got pierced in the eye socket by a Crossbow Arrow, exiting from the back of its skull, killing it instantly!
[You have obtained a Copper Treasure Chest]
Lin Yue yawned, picked up the Copper Treasure Chest without any extra reaction.
To him, Lizardmen were even less threatening than a Mutant Sheep; at least the Mutant Sheep would charge forward, while these Lizardmen only made "Sasa" sounds, too slow in action.
As long as they didn’t appear in groups, there was no need to be tense.
However, Lin Yue did not underestimate the combat strength of these Lizardmen.
Although they were several weapon tiers behind him, they had the advantage in numbers and were insanely aggressive.
They even had a certain level of intelligence and tactics.
This group of Lizardmen had previously organized a team of more than twenty for a sneak attack on his shelter, hadn’t they?
Lin Yue also noticed that the Lizardmen vanguard carried shields while those behind used mid to long-range weapons. Although there were no archers, if it weren’t for Bai, he believed the Lizardmen would have used the vanguard for assault, shield-bearers to hold the line, and the rear to throw stone spears and stone javelins as an attack method.
And that was just a small squad of twenty or so.
Should their numbers increase further, Lin Yue predicted more complex and impactful formations would appear.
Lin Yue still remembered how he once found those various powerful outdoor gears on a corpse on the altar.
That unfortunate person was probably overwhelmed by the "Lizardman tide" and afterwards became their captive, sacrificed on the altar.
"Bai, stay on alert."
"Gawu."
Lin Yue looked at the Alloy Compound Crossbow in his hand; while it was good, with great attack power and range, it had a nearly one-second automatic stringing time, plus the time needed to load the arrows.
If there were about ten or twenty, it was still manageable, but if dozens or hundreds charged, the Alloy Compound Crossbow wouldn’t be reliable.
Footsteps echoed in the empty passage.
Lin Yue glanced at Bai by his side.
It seemed that when faced with a large number of enemies, Bai could be relied on; its enhanced Frost Breath should have a significant effect.
"Sa! Sa!"
Suddenly, the Lizardmen’s distinctive roar was heard again, but unlike before, it was the roar of several!
Lin Yue immediately crouched, raised the Tactical Crossbow, but even after aiming for a long time, the Lizardmen that should have appeared did not emerge.
What’s going on?
Could they have been patrolling this area, then retreated?
Lin Yue glanced at Bai, who also seemed puzzled, shaking its head at Lin Yue.
"Let’s keep moving forward, but if this happens again..."
For some reason, Lin Yue sensed something unusual, he felt he should not proceed forward.
"Gawu!"
Bai growled lowly, Lin Yue lifted the Compound Crossbow again, yet the Night Vision Device showed nothing.
Several "Sa! Sa!" sounds echoed, then suddenly ceased as if cut off.
Lin Yue did not continue moving forward.
Even though, not far from here, he could already see on the map a marker similar to a large space like the previous altar area.
The surroundings were silent, Lin Yue swallowed a mouthful of saliva, inexplicably feeling the back of his head prickling.
"Bai, do-do you smell something?"
Lin Yue suddenly caught a sweet scent, yet it was completely different from the one he had previously smelled at the gate.
"Wait, this scent... it’s getting stronger!" Lin Yue suddenly felt his nose tingling and quickly covered his nostrils.
The sweet scent indeed intensified, wait, if it’s like this...
He abruptly looked at Bai and found it had already covered its nose and was squatting down, unable to get up.
"Bai? Bai!"
At this moment, a dream-like murmur suddenly sounded, though it was unclear from where.
Lin Yue’s skin tingled with goosebumps, he seemed to understand something, but...
"Sa! Sa! Sa!"
Roars erupted, and Lin Yue simultaneously noticed that a mass of the green-scaled monsters appeared from both the front and far behind!
