Chapter 358: Not Even the Celestial King Himself Could Help
CHAPTER 358: CHAPTER 358: NOT EVEN THE CELESTIAL KING HIMSELF COULD HELP
Xiu Haofeng heard that Chen Guan was coming to see him, he knew his intentions and directly let him in.
"Isn’t this Chen, the red person beside Miss Ji Nanhong? Why do you have time to come find me?" Xiu Haofeng leaned back on the chair, with his leg propped on the table, and looked at Chen Guan with slanted eyes.
"I want to transfer Shi Zhimen to the Qilin Corps, sign here." Chen Guan placed the document on the table before Xiu Haofeng.
Xiu Haofeng laughed at Chen Guan’s bold attitude, "Is this the attitude of someone asking for a favor? Let me tell you, Chen Guan, I won’t let the person go. Even if he rots here, don’t think about using him."
Xiu Haofeng had learned from the last lesson; he wouldn’t give anyone he couldn’t use to Chen Guan.
Chen Guan walked to Xiu Haofeng’s side and suddenly reached out to push Xiu Haofeng’s leg, making him stagger and nearly fall off his chair.
"Chen Guan... you dare to lay hands on me here..." Xiu Haofeng was furious and slammed the table in anger, never expecting Chen Guan to touch him like that.
Chen Guan, however, pulled over the chair Xiu Haofeng had been sitting on, sat down himself, and turned the tables, leaving Xiu Haofeng standing by his side.
"You must sign this, and you must release the person." Chen Guan mimicked Xiu Haofeng’s posture, placing his feet on Xiu Haofeng’s desk, smiling, "Your chair is indeed quite comfortable."
"Chen Guan, are you out of your mind? Why would I sign this for you, why should I release the person? Get out of here; this is the position of the Deputy Corps Commander, do you think you can handle this?" Xiu Haofeng said with a face full of disdain.
Chen Guan ignored him, took out his phone, dialed a number, said a few words, then handed the phone to Xiu Haofeng: "Someone wants to talk to you."
Xiu Haofeng didn’t reach out to take it, just sneered contemptuously, "Chen Guan, it’s useless, no matter who you get, Ji Nanhong can’t control me, no one can, even the Celestial King himself can’t make me release this person, give up already, stop putting on airs here with me."
"Xiao Haoh, who do you say is ineffective?" a woman’s voice came out from the speakerphone of the phone.
Upon hearing the voice, Xiu Haofeng’s face changed drastically, showing incredulity, and he quickly reached out to take the phone.
"Hello, Meijie, is that you?" Xiu Haofeng doubted if he had heard correctly.
"What do you think?" Xiu Yingmei’s voice came through once more.
Xiu Haofeng turned off the speakerphone, looked at Chen Guan with a complicated expression, then took the phone outside to continue the conversation.
After a while, Xiu Haofeng returned, tossed the phone back to Chen Guan, gritting his teeth, "Where do I sign?"
"Just here." Chen Guan stood up, opened the document, respectfully put it in front of Xiu Haofeng, pointing to where he needed to sign.
Xiu Haofeng signed it, threw the pen heavily on the table, and gritted his teeth, "Get lost, don’t ever let me see you again."
Chen Guan packed his belongings and was about to leave, but seemed to think of something and turned back to look Xiu Haofeng up and down.
Xiu Haofeng felt creeped out by his stare and barked, "What are you looking at?"
"Didn’t expect this from you, you have a soft spot for Meng De." Chen Guan said with a smile.
"You’re full of shit, if you keep talking nonsense, see if I don’t kill you, you sissy face who eats from my table, don’t think just because you tricked my sister, I won’t dare to do anything..." Xiu Haofeng raged, already gripping the handle of his knife.
Meng De was a famous commander during the Emperor Ancestor’s reign, known for his outstanding military achievements and for looking after other people’s wives.
Chen Guan hurriedly left, having achieved his purpose, he needed to swiftly process everything and get the crew into his Blood Qilin Vanguard Camp.
Without Xiu Haofeng in the way, the procedures were quickly completed. With Ji Nanhong finding the right people, everything was specially approved. By that afternoon, Shi Zhimen had arrived at the Vanguard Camp.
The Qilin Corps was busy with preparations, as this was their first real battle since formation, failure was not an option otherwise the repercussions would be severe.
If they couldn’t disperse the gathering Secret Spirit group, once a Secret Spirit Tide is formed, relying solely on the Qilin Corps would be futile, they would have to seek assistance from other corps.
If Ji Nanhong couldn’t even hold a garrison, her prestige in the Celestial Court Army would obviously plummet.
Bai Yueguang, Zhu Hongzhi, and Zhang Yujian were all reputable generals skilled in battle and command, and could reluctantly accept Chen Guan as the commander, but they were naturally dissatisfied with him appointing Shi Zhimen as the commander.
They had witnessed the battle where Shi Zhimen and Leng Zhe both commanded the Red Cavalry, and did not acknowledge Shi Zhimen’s capabilities.
But with Chen Guan around, they couldn’t say much and simply didn’t regard Shi Zhimen highly.
Though not to the point of outright disobedience, execution wasn’t as enthusiastic or forceful, there was some negligence.
Shi Zhimen understood his background made it hard to earn respect; Bai Yueguang and the others having issues was normal.
He continued studying the Phoenix Forest’s information, continuously conducting various analyses to choose the most secure plan.
Chen Guan was focused on his cultivation, everything else was handled by Shi Zhimen, so Chen Guan didn’t have to worry at all.
In the past few days, Chen Guan occasionally kept an eye on Yellow Mud Island, and found nothing wrong with the items placed there. It could be used as a temporary storage space in the future.
Of course, given the contract’s uncertainty, Chen Guan would not leave his personal valuables there.
But when traveling, he could use Yellow Mud Island to store items, and retrieve them upon return.
However, if it only functioned for storage, that clearly wasn’t enough.
Chen Guan had gathered some ordinary herb seeds, attempting to plant them in Yellow Mud Land.
He thought if dead things couldn’t be cultivated, perhaps living things would be viable.
Maybe the magic of the Daoist Mortar could quickly grow herbs, then he could plant Heavenly and Earthly Treasures, harvesting millennium ginseng every three days, another millennium Polygonum multiflorum in three more days, never worrying about leveling up again.
But soon, Chen Guan was disappointed again, dead things couldn’t be replicated, seeds couldn’t be grown either, Yellow Mud Land seemed to lack maturing capabilities.
The soil of Yellow Mud Land was extremely fine and glossy, not literally oily, but very smooth.
To put it, the soil here was like clay, sticky with water and firm when dry, very compact, not free-flowing.
Such soil was unsuitable for plant growth, plants simply couldn’t survive in it.
Chen Guan tried to break up the soil, but it was so fine and glossy that loosening it was nearly impossible. After much effort, as soon as it was watered, it clumped back, rendering it impossible to grow anything.
After a few attempts, Chen Guan gave up on planting herbs, Yellow Mud Island simply wasn’t functional in that way.
"Seems like the function for reaping what you sow just isn’t there, so what’s the point of Yellow Mud Island?" Chen Guan pondered, still at a loss.
This yellow mud was akin to the clay he dug as a child, playing with mud and whatnot, it was similar soil.
Because of its stickiness, it could be used for various games, like molding trinkets, making pots or figures, and drying them in a cool, shaded place, unlike regular soil which cracks easily.
