Godfire: The Split Soul
Chapter 41: The Outcast Child
CHAPTER 41: THE OUTCAST CHILD
"Long before humans were created, only shadows roamed the earth, which was without shape, taking whatever they wanted, and mending them into their own, until one of the heavenly beings decided to change the way the universe is."
"He and the other seven beings came together into one agreement, gave the unshaped earth shape, gave it life using sand, water, and inhaled into the crafted sandman, turning him into a living being called human. Three days of intense training for the human, the beings fled back, handing over everything, including the shadows, under his care."
"For years, the human tried his very best in controlling the shadows but kept on reporting to the seven beings to bring him more of himself, or bring him an opposite gender so they could multiply and surpass the shadows, so they could control them properly."
"Despite the struggle the human went through day in and day out, six of the beings rejected the offer, stating it would only bring chaos and misunderstanding when the other gender was added. Though it was the right decision to make, yet the six stayed with the same motive. But the only being who agreed to the offer fled from the heavenly realm, turned herself into a human, and mated with the human."
"Years after returning to the heavenly realm, she conceived two children; one with pure blue eyes, same as that of the beings of the heavens, and when the second baby came out, a strange light tore through the heavens, shattering it and creating different realms."
"Due to the child’s strange nature, he got rejected by the heavenly courts and got cast out of the heavenly realm and thrown onto the earth only to be cared for by the human. In that time, the other six agreed and crafted a human of different gender and added her to the first human to care for and take care of both the outcast child and the shadows."
"Both the first human and the second human took care of the child and surprisingly got the full power to control the shadows whenever the child was happy; letting them build buildings that later defied the heavens. Then, as the child turned fifteen years, he and the shadows vanished without a trace."
Gray sighed, tapped on Kai’s shoulder, and walked to Ryo, who was sitting there and dozing off.
’Heavens, seven beings, shadows, a child vanishing with the shadows? Why do I feel like Brother Gray is just faking a story up?’ Kai thought, still having the confused expression.
...
Gulp. Gulp. Gulp.
Strange sounds echoed at the side of the building standing tall at the far distance of the cemetery as wet oil splashed in the air, followed by digging sounds. After a short while, a large hole stood long underneath the building, stretching from the cemetery and ending at the city’s warehouse.
Crashing sounds echoed from inside the warehouse, yet the soldiers holding weapons crafted differently didn’t check. They just stood there, yawning and exchanging glances.
"Should we go and check what’s going on inside?" a boy with brown hair and ash-colored eyes said, turning in the direction of the soldier seated calmly and leaning on the cemented wall of the warehouse holding a silver sickle in his right hand.
"How many times do you want me to tell you that’s something that happens in a room packed with diamonds and food products?"
"Don’t let me say that again, else you’ll be reported and sent to join those who fight after bandits and monsters. With that, know that when I do that, you’ll be signing your own death warrant."
Drake yawned, placed his sickle beside him, crossed his legs, then closed his eyes and placed his black shades on his eyes, covering them from the scorching sun of the afternoon.
Hearing those words for the fifth time, the brown-haired boy turned and walked toward the pillar at the wall separating the road from the warehouse and straightened himself there, tightening his grip on the long spear in his hands.
Though the sound didn’t seem like something normal, but since the person who’d protected the warehouse for ten years and is now in charge said it was normal, he brushed it off his mind and focused on the passing women and children carrying ripe fruits arranged in baskets on their heads.
...
"Can you see something there?" Denis said, tapping and pulling the trousers of the man who had half of his body piercing the hole. For a brief moment, the man pulled himself downward, shaking his head and smiling.
Moments after, Denis climbed through the hole and appeared inside the large warehouse overflowing with bright diamonds. He tore his gaze upward and grinned, stretched his hands, and began spinning around.
At that instant, the men who were supposed to follow Denis immediately remained inside the hole gossiping.
"There are lots and lots of resources there that can sustain us till we die, even if we sneak out of the camp and create one of our own, instead of working for these ungrateful brothers."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, you let’s climb up, you’ll be shocked to see for yourself."
A short period after all five of them climbed up, the quantity of the diamonds reduced, including the quantity of the stored potatoes, carrots, and grains of rice. And through the tunnel they had created underneath the city to the cemetery, they dragged the sacks of diamonds plus sacks of potatoes and grains of rice, passing it until the last person dropped it inside the cart standing at the entrance of the building situated inside the cemetery.
...
"Hey kid, go inside and bring me one of the potatoes," Drake said, gesturing toward the same boy who had notified him earlier of hearing strange crashing noise, and sending him inside the warehouse.
Just a second after he entered, he dashed out, panting.
"EVERYTHING IS GONE!" he said, shouting and sweating profusely, while spinning his hands in the air as if paddling an invisible wheel.
"What do you mean by everything is gone, are you out of your head?" Drake said, cracking his eyes open, frowned, and stared at the confused boy.
"Is it that you don’t know what a potato is or you’re just an illiterate who shouldn’t have been recruited in the first place?" Drake said, jolting from the chair he sat in and began walking toward the opened door of the warehouse. But when he saw it to be empty, he turned a sharp gaze at the boy and back to the soldiers around him.
"Hey! Who in the world has done this? Tell me so you don’t face life imprisonment!"
...
"Why are you still confused? Are you still thinking about what I told you about the Shadow King?" Gray said, placing a hand on Kai’s shoulder as the three of them walked through the hallway and opened the door leading to the large washroom, where all genders bathe without any time interval.
’Ahh...’ Kai said in his thoughts, turning and facing the wall as he saw Jane, Jinx, and other ladies who are in the military standing under the flowing shower, completely naked. Though he’d turned, yet he couldn’t take the picture of their huge asses and breasts out of his mind.
