CHAPTER 101: CHAPTER 101: WATCH CLOSELY, MY TRANSFORMATION

"Did you two do something?"

Hades’s deep black eyes swept across Eros and Persephone.

"What we did, don’t you already know?"

Eros shot back, neither admitting nor denying.

Mostly because Persephone’s acting was terrible, she couldn’t keep a secret to save her life. So rather than pretend, better to sow a little confusion.

Faced with Hades’s question, Eros remained totally calm.

After all, she wasn’t his true love. He’d slept just fine, thank you very much.

Even though Eros hated cuckolds with a passion, he made an exception for righteous cuckolds.

"I wasn’t watching you. How would I know such things?"

Hades had only noticed that Eros and Persephone hadn’t left the place, she had no clue what they were actually up to.

But whatever. It wasn’t important.

Hades brushed past the topic and didn’t pursue it.

"Be careful my second sister doesn’t find out. Once she locks onto you, it gets dangerous fast."

With that warning, Hades dropped the subject.

Maybe she already knew she’d end up the scapegoat for this, but she didn’t care.

In fact, she was kind of looking forward to Demeter’s reaction once she found out. How furious would she get?

Seeing that Hades was about to leave again, Eros called out.

"Wait."

"Hm? Something else?"

"It’s pretty dull hanging around here all the time. You’re always busy, can’t I come with you?"

After giving it some thought, Eros decided to try "conquering" Hades a bit.

Sure, he might get locked in a dark room somewhere... but it was worth a shot.

If he wanted to get close to her, he had to know what she did all day.

Plus, Eros was genuinely bored. Aside from praising springtime with Persephone, there wasn’t much else to do.

Hades looked surprised at first, but quickly hid it.

"It’s not impossible, but it might be dangerous."

"If you’re just bored, you could help supervise construction at the Palace of Hades."

The souls conscripted under her authority didn’t dare slack off, but they still dragged their feet.

"You mean I’d be in danger just being around you?"

Eros smiled, clearly unfazed.

Seeing his persistence, Hades didn’t push back. She let him tag along.

She did have a lot on her plate, not just building her palace, but reshaping the terrain of the Underworld.

Originally, she had planned to wrest control of Underworld operations from the Night Gods.

But thanks to Eros, that wasn’t needed for now.

Hypnos was already out there cursing Eros while looking for someone to rescue him.

Signing that unequal contract with Eros was probably the dumbest thing Hypnos had ever done.

Still, because of that, Hades didn’t need to worry about negotiating with the Night Gods anymore.

She’d just wait for them to come knocking, then settle things with strength.

Besides that, she had an even more pressing task:

Cleansing the Underworld of roaming monsters from the depths of darkness.

The Underworld did have native creatures like gorgons, minotaurs, and vampiric empusas.

But some weren’t native at all, they’d wandered in from the dark beneath the earth.

Creatures like the Hydra and Cerberus, all monsters born of Gaia, children of Typhon.

These insatiable beasts devoured souls, disrupting the flow of the Underworld.

As the ruler, Hades had no reliable subordinates. She had to drive her chariot personally and sweep them out.

That’s why she said it might be dangerous. From her point of view, Eros had some strength, but not much.

The black chariot galloped across the skies of the Underworld like a shadow cloaked in darkness.

In just a few minutes, Hades took him across half the realm, to its edge.

Here, no river of the Underworld flowed. The darkness ran deep, like Tartarus itself. Nothing inside could be clearly seen.

Down below, Eros spotted the familiar three-headed dog, Cerberus, in battle with another monster.

This one looked like a lion, but with a goat’s head on its back and a serpent for a tail.

It was terrifying, and all three heads could breathe fire, but clearly no match for Cerberus.

With Hades’s blessing, Cerberus was no longer just a monstrous beast. He was a divine guardian of the Underworld’s gates.

A proper civil servant! The beloved pet of the Queen of the Underworld, fully on payroll!

Now with a steady job, Cerberus was sharper than ever. What used to be a fair fight was now total domination.

Even his size had grown. He pinned the monster down and tore it apart.

"Cerberus, come!"

At his master’s call, the silly dog stopped playing around and killed the Chimera-like beast, then trotted over with it in his mouth.

But as he got closer, he noticed Eros, the guy who beat him up last time.

Oddly, this time, Cerberus didn’t bare his teeth. Instead, he happily bounded toward him.

"Back off! Don’t rub up against me, you stink!"

Covered in Chimera blood, Cerberus reeked. Eros smacked his big dumb head in irritation.

Why the sudden attitude change?

Well, Eros may have done something.

Dogs are loyal friends of humans. A well-trained one won’t hold grudges.

Even if their master hits them, they just whimper and hide, only to wag their tails the moment they’re called again.

So when Eros called him a "stupid dog," it was actually a compliment.

He’d used a few simple tricks to tame the mutt, nothing sketchy like weird pressure point resets or dragon fruit training techniques, definitely not...

At first, Hades had left Cerberus to guard Eros.

But she gave up after two days. If Eros wanted to leave, Cerberus would probably hand him the leash himself, thinking it was time for walkies.

That’s just the kind of strange charm Eros had.

He was shameless and morally questionable, but people, and beasts, still liked him.

Even Cerberus, a creature of darkness, was drawn in.

What Hades didn’t realize was that her own growing curiosity about Eros was a kind of attraction too.

After playing with the dumb dog for a bit, Eros turned to the Chimera’s corpse on the ground.

"So these are Gaia’s monsters... I really don’t get how much my grandmother loves making life."

"Every moment, she’s spawning monsters that wander beneath the earth, roaming at will."

Hades gave a brief explanation. Many monsters thought to be one-of-a-kind up above were practically swarming down here.

If Gaia had given them the power to reproduce, the Underworld would’ve been overrun and every soul devoured by now.

"So this is what’s been keeping you busy lately?"

Hades nodded. Once she had full control of the Underworld, she’d build walls to keep the monsters out.

But for now, she had to deal with them herself.

"Why not take the initiative and strike first?"

Eros asked. With Hades’s strength, she could just dive into the darkness and slaughter them en masse.

Even if Gaia kept making more, Hades could kill faster, right?

"It’s not that simple."

Hades shook her head.

"My authority can’t penetrate the darkness of the Primordial Mother. They’ve returned to Gaia’s womb, I can’t even trace them."

"Maybe Gaia’s protection, or something else, lets them navigate freely."

Hearing this, Eros had an idea.

He called Cerberus over.

"Hey, dummy, come here."

The goofy mutt trotted over, and Eros held down his neck.

"Hold still. I’m just taking a little blood."

Amid Cerberus’s pained barking, Eros absorbed the blood using his [Beast King Domain].

Even with his government job, Cerberus was still a creature of Gaia.

By digesting and analyzing his blood through the [Beast King Domain], Eros could simulate the traits of Gaia’s monsters.

"Hades, if I can sneak into the darkness and handle this for you... would you reward me?"

Grinning, Eros turned to her.

"You?"

Hades clearly didn’t believe him.

But Eros didn’t explain. Instead, he activated the [Beast King Domain].

This time, he refined the transformation. No massive flood of 666 beasts.

In a flash, he turned into a massive red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, a body like flowing steel, fierce and majestic.

Compared to the previous mind-breaking monstrosity, this form was wild and divine all at once.

His twisted horns intertwined like a crown.

Hades stared in shock. Even though she’d watched the transformation happen, she couldn’t help but gape.

And this red dragon gave off the distinct aura of Gaia’s monsters.

But unlike the usual grotesque chaos, this form was handsome and awe-inspiring.

Ironically, that made it slightly less believable.

"Well? Now do you believe I can sneak in?"

The seven-headed, ten-horned dragon spoke, not like a beast, but a divine being with a trace of madness.

The wonders of the Beast King Domain, if you can’t shapeshift, how can you survive in mythology?
