Chapter 108: Can We Be Together Forever?
CHAPTER 108: CHAPTER 108: CAN WE BE TOGETHER FOREVER?
After entering the side hall, Eros immediately saw Mnemosyne sitting there.
And she, too, was watching him closely, her eyes following him from the moment he stepped through the door, never looking away.
Her gaze made Eros feel strangely restrained.
Honestly, he only came here with the mindset of saying hello and getting to know her a little.
Even Eros wasn’t arrogant enough to think he could put a "colored hat" on Zeus in just a few minutes.
He just wanted to see what kind of beauty Zeus herself had approved of.
At first glance, Mnemosyne didn’t seem particularly stunning, one might even call her a bit plain.
But the longer you looked, the more captivating she became, like a fine wine that had matured with time.
Very pleasing to the eye, and the more he looked, the more beautiful she seemed. As expected, Zeus’s taste was never off.
Eros politely greeted her and began thinking about what topic to start with.
"Eros, right?" Mnemosyne took the initiative to speak, her eyes still locked on him.
"Don’t feel distant, I know you. I know everything you’ve been through, everything that’s happened to you."
"I understand you better than any of your lovers. I know you more deeply than even you know yourself. This is simply our first time meeting in person."
Another voyeur?! Eros froze for a moment.
"If you don’t believe me, I can prove it."
Mnemosyne tapped her forehead with two fingers, as if retrieving a memory.
"Before you came here, you tied Persephone up with her limbs in the air and played with her until she passed out, then stuffed something into her when changing her clothes."
"The first time you set foot on this path was in the Oceanic Domain with Amphitrite. You were gentler then and used a classic position."
"But if we trace back further, your real awakening was on the island, at ten y, "
Before she could finish, Eros clasped his hands together and bowed deeply.
"Please stop! Honorable Goddess Mnemosyne!"
"I already understand your greatness! I no longer dare have any foolish thoughts toward you!"
This was terrifying! She nearly peeled back every last layer of his privacy!
He was drenched in sweat. Was there really a need to mention these kinds of things just to prove she understood him?
Mnemosyne tilted her head, considering something, then spoke again.
"Based on your past behavioral patterns, I’d say your words just now were mostly for show."
"In truth, you haven’t learned your lesson, and you certainly won’t give up just because of something like this."
Seeing Eros’s expression shift again, Mnemosyne let out a soft laugh.
"Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. But I really do know you better than anyone, even yourself. That’s no joke."
She was the Goddess of Memory, not just her own memories, but the memories of the world.
Everything that has ever happened in this world lives within her mind.
She often drifted into deep thought, flipping through the astronomical volume of memories in her mind, searching for what she wanted.
So anything Eros had ever done, she knew, if she wished to.
And to Eros, that was utterly terrifying.
Just take his whole situation with Hera, for instance, Mnemosyne definitely knew, and in vivid detail.
"Don’t worry. I’m not the type who likes spreading others’ secrets."
Mnemosyne had seen through Eros’s thoughts and smiled lightly.
"Like Goddess Nyx, I’m also a firm observer. As long as you don’t threaten the continuity of this world, I won’t act against you."
Was that a warning?
Eros pondered internally.
Damn, she’s holding all my secrets to keep me in check? Once I completely secure Hera and have nothing to fear, I’ll definitely test the depths of this memory goddess.
Eros wasn’t exactly the forgiving type.
However, Mnemosyne’s authority didn’t allow her to read minds.
She could only speculate about what Eros was thinking.
"So, may I ask what the goddess wanted to see me for?"
Eros decided to rein in his thoughts and asked respectfully.
"Wasn’t it you who wanted to see me?" Mnemosyne raised an eyebrow, then chuckled. "Never mind, I won’t tease you."
Eros’s mouth twitched. This goddess clearly had no sense of humor and was trying to force it.
"I already said, I know everything. Hades, Persephone, Demeter, I know it all."
"Zeus told me she asked you to handle it, and I also heard your worries and doubts."
Mnemosyne shifted in her seat, her chestnut hair cascading to the floor.
"You still haven’t found Hades’s weakness, have you? I know what it is."
Eros let out a breath of relief. Why didn’t you say you were a helpful NPC from the start? You scared me half to death.
"But I think telling you outright would be too easy."
Her tone suddenly shifted, and Eros shot her a death glare.
Riddlers should suffer, seriously, especially ones who already know the answer but still play coy.
"That was also a joke."
Even though he expected it, Eros still felt annoyed.
If not for the fear that she might go nuclear and take Hera down with her, he might have already tried to test her strength.
Is it so hard to just speak clearly? If you’re not funny, don’t force it!
Facing Eros’s cold glare, Mnemosyne remained calm.
"Hades came to me earlier for a sip of the Fountain of Memory. She’s likely reminiscing about her time on Crete right now."
Crete? Eros knew that place, it was where Zeus’s dream began. But what did it have to do with Hades?
"You’ve seen Hades’s resentment toward Demeter and the others. You’ve seen her jealousy and how twisted she’s become. But you missed something important."
Mnemosyne held up a finger.
"If there was no love, where would hatred come from?"
"What really fills her heart, is it jealousy, or the fear of being left alone as her sisters drift further away?"
Meanwhile, Hades was walking through the main hall, her mind flooded with memories under the influence of the Fountain of Memory.
She remembered when she first emerged from darkness and was born into the world.
She remembered her time on Crete, where she had a wise, caring older sister who also bullied her now and then...
And a younger sister who was adorable but troublesome.
She remembered the six sisters standing together on Mount Olympus, fighting off the Titans.
Those memories swirled in her mind, blending past and present, leaving Hades dazed.
"Aunt Hades? Are you okay?"
Persephone’s voice pulled her back to reality.
Wearing a fresh dress and glowing with beauty, Persephone lifted her skirt and ran over.
"Your arm’s bleeding again, are you upset?"
She gently took Hades’s hand and began treating the nail marks.
To Hades, Persephone’s face overlapped with a younger, more innocent Demeter.
She murmured softly.
"Sister... why can’t we always be together?"
"Aunt Hades, what are you saying? Are you alright? Do you want to rest?"
Persephone helped her up, concern in her eyes.
"I’m fine. No need to rest."
Breaking free from her memories, Hades pulled her hand away and gestured that she was okay.
That Fountain of Memory was strong stuff. She usually drank it casually, but not today.
She couldn’t afford to let her guilt over Persephone take over.
She had to stay strong, to face Demeter and Zeus.
No hesitation. No retreat. She had to vent all her frustration and bottled-up emotions.
Hades closed her eyes for a moment, then reopened them, her expression calm again.
"Persephone, today, don’t say anything or do anything. Just quietly watch."
Even though Eros had already prepared Persephone mentally, Hades still emphasized it again.
"The matter between your mother and me, let us settle it ourselves. You just stay still and observe."
Persephone nodded, somewhat confused. After everything that had happened, she was no longer the obedient girl who only listened to her mother.
Eros had let her experience many things her mother would never allow. She’d already become a "bad girl."
If her mother were to take her back now, she wouldn’t know how to explain.
Her feelings were conflicted. Part of her hoped Demeter would come save her... part of her hoped she wouldn’t.
As long as she stayed in the Underworld, she could live without her mother’s judgment, freely being the bad girl she wanted to be.
In that way, both Hades and Persephone were entangled in the same emotional knot.
They hoped for Demeter’s arrival, yet feared it too.
The door of the side hall opened, and Eros stepped out.
"You’re finally out. What did Aunt Mnemosyne say to you?"
Hades looked at him, curious about what had been said.
Surely they didn’t actually do anything in there? That couldn’t be, right?
Though... Mnemosyne herself was lured by Zeus back in the day...
Eros glanced at Hades and thought, "She basically told me the color of your underwear."
But out loud, he only said, "Nothing much."
He might have been handed the answer, but how exactly was he supposed to solve this problem?
