Greek Myth: Zeus Wants Me to Be His/Her (XXXX)?????
Chapter 91: A Farmer in a Hurry Is Truly a Fighter
CHAPTER 91: CHAPTER 91: A FARMER IN A HURRY IS TRULY A FIGHTER
Hades had mobilized the souls of the Underworld for hard labor to renovate her palace, an event that caused quite a stir.
The dream spirits of Hypnos quickly gathered a flood of information from various dream realms, chattering over one another as they reported.
Things like "A monster from Mount Olympus plots against the Underworld," and "Who will be the true ruler of the Underworld, Hades or Nyx?" or "The great palace of Queen Hades is under construction." Most of it was chaotic nonsense.
Still, a few key points could be extracted.
This time, Hades had truly arrived with the majesty befitting the ruler of the Underworld, directly conscripting countless souls with her authority.
The scale was grand, nothing like her past efforts to remain hidden as she roamed.
Even the location of the palace was not concealed—it was being built at the deepest level of the Underworld, near the fork leading to Tartarus.
It was precisely the area where Eros had first climbed out of the River Styx.
What infuriated Demeter most, however, was that Hades intended to make Persephone her queen.
That damned Hades! How dare she lay a finger on her precious daughter?
Demeter, who even treated Zeus with extreme suspicion, saw her beloved daughter as hers alone. How could she allow anyone else to take her away?
"She’s dead meat."
Expressionless, Demeter unsheathed her scythe. The air around it filled with the scent of death and decay.
Never underestimate the goddess of agriculture. When she’s angry, she’s terrifying.
Eros, meanwhile, gazed thoughtfully at the location of the palace construction.
"In that case, should we go meet the Queen of the Underworld now?"
Styx was the first to speak, still hoping for a peaceful resolution. After all, she still had to live here.
If things got out of hand, her future would become difficult.
Ideally, the sisters could reconcile with smiles and laughter, letting bygones be bygones.
"Yes. I fear if we’re too late, we might not make it in time."
Demeter stood up. Persephone, as the daughter of the goddess of agriculture, was not suited to the role of queen of the dead.
If Hades wanted her to accept that divine authority, it would take time and effort.
More importantly, Demeter feared that Persephone would be corrupted by the dark rituals of the Underworld and become unable to ever leave.
If it came to that... damn it, what kind of madness had taken over Hades?
"Let’s go."
Eros casually grabbed Hypnos, who had been trying to sneak away.
"Hey! I don’t have any combat ability, you know! Bringing me along is pointless!"
"Relax. We’re just here to cheer from the sidelines. You really think we’re the main act?"
After witnessing Poseidon go all out last time, Eros didn’t think he could be the lead role.
With three powerful goddesses present, he fully intended to just enjoy the show.
Besides, invincible Nyx would be watching too.
This was a guaranteed win!
"You’re not scared, are you?"
Eros teased her, remembering what she’d said back on the ship.
Hypnos’s blood pressure spiked, her face flushing instantly.
"Who’s scared?! I just wanted to grab some friends to come gossip with me, got a problem with that?!"
"Alright, you little coward. Just come with me quietly."
Eros lifted her with one hand and headed for the door, accidentally bumping into Hecate, who was cloaked in a hood.
She flinched like she’d been shocked and instantly moved aside to let him pass, which deeply wounded Eros.
She had to be a perverted goddess. Otherwise, why would she avoid him so strongly?
He had already been certified as a handsome youth by several major goddesses and even recognized by the system. How could anyone despise him?
It had to be her problem!
Even though he comforted himself with this logic, Eros still felt hurt.
As for Hecate, her hand kept rubbing the spot where she had touched him.
"Heh heh..."
Her mutterings were unintelligible, but to Eros, it sounded like she was whispering complaints about him.
Should he straighten her out to restore his pride?
No—there were more pressing matters right now. He’d settle the score later!
After staring at her unabashedly for a moment, Eros carried Hypnos out the door.
Hecate didn’t move for a long while before finally stepping forward, her body slightly trembling.
Styx harnessed the chariot and led Demeter and the others down the River Styx.
Whereas Eros and Hypnos had taken days to travel upstream before, the downstream ride was incredibly swift.
Before long, the rising silhouette of Hades’s Underworld palace appeared on the horizon.
It towered skyward, as if trying to pierce the gloomy ceiling of the Underworld and reach the surface world above.
Countless souls were forced into labor, resembling swarms of ants from afar.
"Tch. She really built it grand. Even Mother didn’t construct something that reached the heavens like this."
Hypnos commented sourly as she watched the palace take shape.
Though she often belittled Hades in her speech, the truth was that Hades’s authority in the Underworld far surpassed that of a direct descendant of Nyx.
She could command souls, reshape the terrain, even redirect the River Styx, and alter parts of the Underworld’s laws.
She was a native of the Underworld. Hypnos was not.
As expected, they soon encountered the blazing River of Fire that Hades had carved into place.
Flames surged across the river, blocking the path of Styx’s chariot. From the fire rose countless skeletons soaked in flame.
These corpses of monsters and demi-humans had been transformed into sentries by Hades’s power.
She clearly anticipated Demeter’s pursuit and set up defenses accordingly.
It resembled a demon king’s fortress encircled by the nine circles of Hell. Eros realized this fit Hades’s mythological image surprisingly well.
"Out of my way!"
Demeter struck out in fury, her frost and withering aura extinguishing even the ever-burning River of Fire.
As the goddess of agriculture, leaving the earth behind brought forth death, decay, frost, and ice.
Lush growth and wintry death were both faces of Demeter’s power.
Anyone who thought she only farmed was a fool.
When a farmer gets angry, she can fight harder than any herder.
Unleashing the full force of a major goddess’s power, Demeter turned the River of Fire’s guardians into frozen dust.
Styx summoned horses formed from the River Styx’s waters and drove the chariot across the frozen blaze.
Hades’s carefully constructed defense line was shattered in an instant.
Her divine power even affected the entire Underworld. Frost began to condense in the dark sky above.
Such familiar divine energy could not escape the senses of Hades and Persephone, who were overseeing the construction.
"As expected of Second Sister. Even the Underworld will snow for her?"
Veiled, Hades caught a transparent snowflake in her palm, feeling the temperature plummet.
Even the smell of sulfur in the air was fading.
"Aunt Hades, please let me go back with Mother. She’ll be really angry if I don’t."
The pure-hearted Persephone was still worried only about upsetting her mother.
Seeing her so innocent made Hades’s inner distortion even more extreme.
She was excited, yet also ashamed of her cruelty.
She felt guilt over Persephone’s purity.
But at the same time, Demeter’s fierce love for her daughter made Hades savor the joy of revenge.
None of Zeus’s other children brought her this satisfaction.
They were all rational and would accept reality, just like herself.
Even Hera, if Hades took her daughter Hebe, would only frown slightly and pretend nothing happened.
Only Demeter, her control-freak of a sister with an obsession for her daughter, gave Hades this intoxicating sense of vengeance.
"It’s too late, my poor little Persephone. You can no longer escape."
Hades gently blew a breath at her, causing her to sway and then fall asleep.
Before she collapsed, Hades caught her and placed her on a chair.
Then, she continued waiting for Demeter to arrive.
If this revenge were to be fulfilling, she needed to witness it with her own eyes.
"Good. Looks like we’re just in time."
Styx let out a relieved sigh.
This chasm of fire had been ineffective against Demeter—no surprise, since it was hastily constructed.
Given more time, Hades could have turned those rivers into true barriers.
Then they’d have had to perform a whole divine ritual just to get through.
But not today.
Suddenly, the icy surface ahead cracked. From it burst a massive skeletal serpent with multiple molten heads.
"The Hydra?"
Technically, it was a nine-headed hydra, but not the Hydra of legend.
Hydra was more of a species than a singular monster—there was just one famous one.
The Underworld had its own, and Hades had thrown it into the River of Fire, turning it into a burning skeletal serpent.
It had the terrain advantage and was enhanced by Hades’s power. Eros quickly estimated its threat level.
If he had to face it, it might take some effort to bring down.
A bit weak, but at least it wasn’t something he could casually swat away anymore.
Still, today he was just a spectator.
Facing the hydra blocking the road, Demeter’s expression grew colder. She summoned a short scythe.
In a flash of cold light, several of the hydra’s skulls fell into the River of Fire.
This was no ordinary weapon. It was the scythe that helped Aphrodite be born.
And while I know the original myth made Hades a joke for others to step on—
Under my rewrite, a fully empowered T0 Hades is absolutely second to none!
