CHAPTER 595: ASKING TO STAY AWAY

Ye Jinglan was stunned. He raised his head and looked at the woman who was standing beside Qi Yongrui. His eyebrows jumped, and he said to the woman, "Who are you? How can you just snatch the card right out of my hand like that?"

Luo Huian smiled at the mer with a hint of amusement in her eyes. She leaned forward and then said to the mer, "You should have at least investigated the person you are trying to scam." She pointed to the mer who was sitting in the wheelchair and then said to Ye Jinglan, "This is my husband, Qi Yongrui, and I am his wife, Luo Huian."

"With what right do you think that I took the card away?"

As soon as Luo Huian finished speaking, Ye Jinglan stiffened. He took a good look at Luo Huian, who was standing in front of him, and his heart suddenly started to burn with envy. He couldn’t believe that Qi Yongrui was so lucky that he ended up with a woman so beautiful that every other woman turned dim in front of her.

How in the world did Qi Yongrui end up with such a beautiful woman!? Ye Jinglan roared in his head, feeling angry and upset, and yet he couldn’t show it on his face because he was worried that Qi Yongrui might notice something amiss.

Thus, even though he was burning with jealousy, he held himself back from losing his temper. He gritted his teeth and then said to Luo Huian with a smile on his face, "Ah, it’s Mrs Luo."

He then glanced at Qi Yongrui, who was looking up at Luo Huian and felt even more annoyed. What was up with this mer? Why was he looking at his wife with that affectionate gaze as if she had just saved him from a burning building or something of the sort?

Though Ye Jinglan was filled with anger, he still pursed his lips and said to Luo Huian, "I don’t know why you say that I am trying to scam Yongrui. I assure you that it’s not like this. I am his childhood friend, and if I had another choice, then I would have never asked for this little sum of money."

Once he finished speaking, Ye Jinglan shed a few tears. His eyes turned red with aggrievedness as he sniffled and lowered his head.

When others saw the mer lowering his head in front of Luo Huian, they couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. The people who gathered around them all turned to look at Qi Yongrui and Luo Huian before saying to them,

"Are you really going to be so harsh on him? His child is injured, and he is a widower; he is trying his best here."

"Thats right, why are you being so unkind? Isn’t he just saying that he needs some money that he will return soon?"

"You have so much money; a million wouldn’t count for much, right?"

When Ye Jinglan heard others speak up for him, he curled his lips, as he thought that he had cornered Qi Yongrui nicely and well. However, what he never expected was that Qi Yongrui married a woman who didn’t care about the opinion of people or her reputation.

She turned and looked at the people who were condemning her and said to them, "You have two kidneys; why don’t you give me one? I will sell or use it as I wish."

The man who had spoken just now turned pale when he heard Luo Huian’s words. He said to her, "What nonsense are you saying? How can you ask for my kidneys?"

"Just as you can ask me to hand out one million so casually. Do you think that just because I have an excess of it, I can hand it around so casually?" She then turned to look at Ye Jinglan before questioning, "My husband gave you a few hundred thousand yuan before, did he not? I think it hasn’t been more than three days. How come you used all the money in just a few days?"

As soon as Luo Huian finished speaking, Ye Jinglan sucked in a breath and Qi Yongrui too frowned. He turned to look at Ye Jinglan and questioned, "That’s right. I did give you six hundred thousand yuan a few days ago. It hasn’t been more than three days; how come you have used all the money?"

Qi Yongrui was worried about the child, and thus, he completely forgot about the money that he had given to Ye Jinglan. Now that Luo Huian brought it up, Qi Yongrui recalled that he had given Ye Jinglan enough money to survive and treat the children well.

However, now Ye Jinglan was telling him that he didn’t have enough money to even cook for the two children. How can that be possible?

Qi Yongrui’s questions silenced Ye Jinglan. However, a second later, he said with a light stammer, "I had to give that money to the moneylenders. My wife—my wife, she borrowed some money from a few people, and I had to hand the money to them... I really had no other choice."

Though his excuse sounded convincing, Luo Huian continued to smile without saying anything. She lowered her voice and whispered, "Is that so? Was it the moneylenders from Pop and Peony’s gambling house?"

Ye Jinglan stiffened the second he heard the name of the gambling house where he usually went to play. His eyes widened and he stared at Luo Huian with a hint of pure terror on his face.

"You...."

Luo Huian did not say anything. Instead, she turned to look at Qi Yongrui and said to him, "Let’s go. I think you are tired after running around for so long."

When Qi Yongrui heard Luo Huian’s words, he nodded instinctively. He noticed how Ye Jinglan turned pale after listening to what Luo Huian said to him. It was quite clear that there was something that Luo Huian knew about Ye Jinglan, something that could ruin the mer, if not, there was no way Ye Jinglan would have turned so scared.

"You can’t!" Ye Jinglan saw that the two of them were leaving without handing him the money; he suddenly grew bold. He reached out and held Qi Yongrui’s hand. He said to him, "You cannot leave just like this. What will happen to the child?"

Though Qi Yongrui was unwilling to help Ye Jinglan, when he thought about the child, he couldn’t help but hesitate. Ye Jinglan was not a good person, but the child was innocent. Was he going to ignore the child because of Ye Jinglan?

When Ye Jinglan saw that Qi Yongrui was hesitating, he hit the hammer when the iron was hot and said, "Yongrui, I know that it’s hard for you to trust me. But just think about the child. She cannot survive without your help."

Just as Qi Yongrui was hesitating, Luo Huian stepped in between. She calmly pulled the hand that was holding Qi Yongrui’s and then said to Ye Jinglan, "There is no need for you to worry so much. Since my husband is worried about the child, I will arrange for a nanny to come here and take care of her as well as her brother." She looked at the little merboy who was sitting on the metal chair.

The little mer raised his head and looked at Qi Yongrui and Luo Huian when he heard their words but the second his gaze met with Luo Huian, he immediately dropped his head and no longer dared to look up again. Even though the mer didn’t say a word, Luo Huian could sense and see the evidence of abuse.

Her eyes flashed, and she turned to look at Ye Jinglan, who was staring at her with shock in his eyes.

"That works, right?" She sweetly smiled at the mer.

Ye Jinglan wanted to say that there was no way it was going to work, but when he saw Qi Yongrui looking at him, he could only curl his lips stiffly and nod.

"Perfect, then it means that we can take our leave," said Luo Huian as she clapped her hands and then pushed Qi Yongrui out of the hospital, leaving a rather livid Ye Jinglan behind them.

Once the two of them were out of the hospital, Luo Huian sighed and remarked, "Should I say that you are an idiot? How can you fall for a scam so simple as that? If I didn’t come here on time, then you would have ended up losing even your pants."

Qi Yongrui’s cheeks turned red when he heard Luo Huian’s remark.

He said in a low voice, "I was just trying to help those children. They are really pitiful, they first lost their daddy and then their mother... I was just thinking about them."

"It’s a good thing that you were trying to help the children, but I will ask you to leave them alone for the time being."

"Why?"
