Chapter 623: Taking Credit.

Luo Huian didn’t intervene. She allowed the little boy to cry, as for the little mer in Liao Liqin’s arms, who had run away earlier, was simply angry and had no other issue. She handed him a piece of the strawberry cheese that she had baked earlier.

“They can’t eat anything sugary sweet,” intervened Du De. She didn’t like the fact that Luo Huian had attracted the attention of everyone around the farm, and now they were looking at her with admiration and respect for being able to calm down four kids all at once. Though Luo Huian had done a good job, Du De didn’t want to admit it. She didn’t like the woman, and even if Luo Huian had helped her, Du De still wanted to cross her.

She just hated the sight of that arrogant face.

“I know.” Luo Huian glanced at the woman. “There is no need for you to worry. I brought two kids with me today. I know that kids cannot eat sugar, so I baked the cake with honey and other sweeteners like jaggery. They are not that harmful to the children, and they can eat them without getting cavities or becoming hyperactive.”

Her words made Du De swallow her words back. She glared at Luo Huian angrily before turning around on her feet and heading to the spot where the resting area was. She didn’t even take the children with her and left them under Luo Huian’s care. Since this woman wanted to take care of those brats, she would let her!

At least now she would have some peace for a few hours.

Luo Huian didn’t stop her either. She turned to look at the three kids before saying to them, “You all should continue picking up strawberries. Since you came here to do that, then you might as well do it.”

After she finished speaking, Luo Huian sighed and went to take a nap as well. She was not used to dealing with children; if not for Xiao Hei hastening her and yelling in her ears that if she didn’t help the baby, then she would die, Luo Huian wouldn’t have bothered to come here at all.

No one stopped her, as they knew that Luo Huian had been working hard the entire day. Instead, they turned their attention to the children to make sure that they wouldn’t bother Luo Huian when she was sleeping.

The kids also understood that they had caused enough fuss, so they started playing among themselves without bothering Luo Huian.

On the other side, a couple was rushing past the throng of people at the airport. Sister Ruan looked at her husband, who was rushing her, and said to him, “Do you doubt your sister so much? Don’t you think you are reacting a bit over the top? Your sister will do a good job, and didn’t you ask her friend to take care of the children as well?”

Sister Ruan couldn’t understand why her husband was reacting as if the world was coming to an end.

Brother Du rolled his eyes. He turned around and glanced at his wife before saying to her, “You think that I am overreacting? I am not. I know De De. That girl is not good with children, and with the fuss our children were making, I am sure that she would soon get upset with them.”

Brother Du grew up in a rather gender-biased family. Thus, he knew that his sister’s temper was not really good due to the pampering of his mother and father. Even though they had never treated him unfairly, Du De was treated even better than he was. If he were given two eggs, then Du De would be given four. That was how their family was; they wouldn’t mistreat him, but they wouldn’t treat him better than his sister lest she think that she was not loved.

Because of this, Du De grew up with a rather eccentric attitude. She concluded that she was better than the others, and thus, her arrogance soon became way too out of control. Now that his mother had gotten old, she regretted raising Du De like that. After all, even if Du De kept making excuses that she had no money, he and their mother knew that it was just her trying to find excuses to get rid of her responsibility.

How could she not have the money? She might be just a student, but there were many exhibitions that Du De had arranged with her teacher, and all of her sculptures sold quite well. Though this was something that Brother Du didn’t tell his wife. If his wife found out the truth, he was worried that his wife would surely have an opinion against his sister.

Thus, he could only keep the truth to himself, but even so, he still felt that his sister was being a bit selfish, and so did his mother. If not for the fact that he had no other choice, he would have rather left the children with a babysitter than his sister, but he had no other choice.

Everything happened so suddenly that he had no choice but to rush ahead and book his flights without caring about anything else.

However, now he was regretting his rash actions. He should have called the babysitter and told her that he could give her some extra money. That girl was trying her hardest to study in the college of her choice; maybe if he had upped his offer, then the girl would have come to look after his children. Now this was good. Just because he wanted to save a few yuan, he ended up causing trouble for his children.

Now he could only wish that nothing would happen to their children, or else his wife would never forgive him.

Sister Ruan didn’t say anything. In fact, she didn’t trust his sister-in-law either. That woman was not only arrogant but also lazy and rather pompous. But she and her husband had been taking care of her mother-in-law for quite some time. The amount that they had used on the treatment of her mother-in-law was not small.

If not for the fact that her mother-in-law had helped her in opening the supermarket when she needed it, Sister Ruan wouldn’t have bothered with her at all. But her mother-in-law had looked after her; she was not such an ungrateful woman who would turn her back on someone who had once helped her.

However, the attitude of her sister-in-law was something that she just couldn’t stomach, even if she wanted to. How could she? When her sister-in-law kept refusing to hand her the money. Clearly, her mother-in-law had done much more for Du De and yet that woman kept refusing, even though she, as Mother Du’s daughter-in-law, was working hard to make sure that the woman would get better.

The two of them drove to the strawberry farm. Earlier, when they landed, Sister Ruan was not as agitated and flustered. But after listening to the chattering of her husband, she too turned worried. What if Du De really failed in taking care of their children? One of them was a baby! If something went wrong, then there would be grave consequences.

Thus, the second they arrived at the farm, they didn’t even bother parking their car properly and rushed forward towards the location that their daughter had sent them.

“Mianmian!” Brother Du shouted when he saw his daughter.

Du Mianmian paused and turned to look at her father when she saw him coming. Her lips curled up in a wide smile as she rushed towards her father. With her arms open, she launched herself at them. She said to Brother Du, “Daddy, why are you so late? Mianmian missed you.”

“I missed you too,” Brother Du heaved a sigh of relief. Seeing that his children were alright, the weight on his heart also lifted.

Behind him, Sister Ruan heaved a sigh of relief as well. She was really going crazy with her husband’s yammering in her ears that Du De might not do a good job. But no, what she had seen was that the children were alright and there was nothing wrong; she couldn’t help but say, “You really! You really scared me there; look at this—the children are fine. De De did a good job.”

As she spoke, she ruffled the hair of her second son.

“You are right. I got worried for nothing.” he then turned to look at Du De, who had stepped out of the resting area and smiled at her. “De De, why did you make that distressful call when you clearly had everything in control? You really scared me and your sister-in-law.”

“I was just getting used to dealing with a bunch of children; I didn’t know it was this easy to take care of them.” Du De didn’t feel even the slightest bit wronged. After all, if she dared to say that she didn’t take care of these children, then her sister-in-law would certainly lose her temper with her.
