Chapter 624: Has Been Courting Death

Liao Liqin paused. He had just stepped out of the resting area to fill the water bottle when he heard Du De’s shameless words and turned to look at the woman. He knew that Du De had some issues with her personality, but he never knew that she was capable of stooping so low. He frowned, but before he could hold Du De accountable, Du Mianmian jumped down from Brother Du’s arm.

She turned and looked at her aunt before saying, “Aunt, why are you lying? It’s not a good habit to lie.” Du Mianmian then turned to look at her parents and said, “It’s Auntie Luo who took care of us. Aunt could not even change Little Four’s diaper. It was Auntie Luo who changed Little Four’s diaper and even fed her. Aunt even forgot to feed Little Four.”

“She scolded me and Little Two because we were fighting, but she didn’t ask us why we were fighting and just blamed us for being naughty. Little Three ran away because Aunt yelled at him; it was really, really scary. Without Auntie Luo’s help, I am afraid Aunt would have lost her mind.”

Don’t look down on Du Mianmian just because she was young. She noticed and understood things better than other children of her age. Du Mianmian knew that her aunt was lying because she wanted to make herself look good in front of her mother. However, Du Mianmian wouldn’t let her because if her parents believed her aunt, then she would certainly come to babysit them.

Though Du Mianmian managed to hold everything together, even with her aunt’s chaotic way of handling children, she would rather have just one experience of it. This alone was enough to last for a lifetime. She didn’t want to get another experience like this ever again. She would rather take care of her siblings on her own because maybe the next time they wouldn’t be as lucky as they were today.

Who knows what might happen if her parents left her and her siblings alone with their aunt again? Just the thought alone was enough to make Du Mianmian shudder with fright.

When Brother Du heard Du Mianmian’s words, his expression changed. He raised his head and looked at his sister; one look at her twisted expression, and Brother Du, who grew up with his sister, knew at once that his daughter was speaking the truth. He sighed but didn’t question his sister, for he didn’t want to escalate the matter.

Forcing himself to smile, he said to his daughter, “Is that so? Who is this auntie Luo?”

“My wife.”

Liao Liqin stepped forward with his phone. He looked at the woman whose face, if possible, turned even darker; however, he didn’t say anything to her. Instead, he turned his attention to Brother Du and typed on his phone, “She is my wife. I asked her to help me take care of the children.”

Brother Du was shocked once again. “Your wife? You—you have a wife?”

Brother Du couldn’t be blamed for getting shocked. After all, he knew about the ambiguous relationship between the two of them. He moved his neck slightly to the left and stared at his sister. He just couldn’t believe that she had done such a thing. She was actually involved with a married mer and Liao Liqin. He never told him that he was married either.

These two – what were they even thinking?

Liao Liqin knew what Brother Du was thinking and didn’t offer any explanation. What was he even supposed to say? He was indeed in the wrong. He didn’t stop to understand his wife and simply looked at her in the same way as others did. If he had tried to understand her, then maybe he would have seen things which were hidden under that crude exterior.

“You–you have a wife?” Brother Du asked. He was so shocked by this revelation that Liao Liqin could almost taste the confusion in his tone.

“I do.” He then turned to look behind her, just in time to catch Luo Huian stepping out of the resting area. She had her hands in the pockets of her wide pants, and she was talking about something with Qi Yongrui, who was shaking his head in amusement.

As if sensing the gaze with which he was looking at her, Luo Huian raised her head and looked in his direction. Arching a brow, she pushed Qi Yongrui over to where Liao Liqin was standing. She glanced at the people in front of him and then turned to look at him. “Who are these people?”

“They are Du De’s brother and sister-in-law,” replied Liao Liqin. He then turned to look at Brother Du before saying to him, “This is my wife. Luo Huian, the second heiress of the Luo family.”

“L–Luo? The Luo family?” Brother Du felt like he was going to faint. Dear heavens! What was his sister even trying to do? Was she trying to cuckold the heiress of the Luo family? Did she think that a small family like theirs could go against the Luo family? If Luo Huian turned against them, then she could ruin them without lifting a finger!

Du De actually got involved with the husband of someone as powerful as Luo Huian? Why didn’t she just poison everyone in their family instead of putting them in danger like this?

“That’s right,” Liao Liqin conceded, causing darkness to fall over Brother Du’s eyes. If not for Sister Ruan standing behind him, he would have fallen on the floor.

Brother Du straightened up and then glanced at his wife, who was looking just as troubled.

“Auntie Luo!”

However, their worries had nothing to do with the children. As soon as they saw Luo Huian, they rushed to hug her.

“Auntie Luo, pick me up.”

“Auntie Luo, I want to climb up on your shoulders.”

“Auntie Luo—”

“Auntie Luo—”

When Brother Du saw the bold actions of his children, he nearly fainted. He wanted to stop. Maybe he could kowtow in front of Luo Huian and apologise to her; perhaps he could beg her to let his family off. But what was he supposed to say? That he was sorry that his sister was as stupid as a little worm, with no brain in her head. But even in his head, the words sounded nothing less than idiotic.

Du De was not a little child who didn’t know better. She was an adult woman who seemed to know the identity of Luo Huian and still went ahead and tried to seduce Liao Liqin, who was married to Luo Huian.

He knew that there was no apology for such a thing. If he dared to do such a thing, he knew that his wife would skin him alive. Not before she killed the bastard or bitch who tried to cuckold her.

Compared to that, Luo Huian was rather nice; at least she hadn’t done anything to hurt his sister or Liao Liqin.

Brother Du was a bit awed by Luo Huian’s patience.

She was still nice to Liao Liqin even when she knew that he was entangled with Du De. Luo Huian must really be the epitome of kindness.

The fact that his sister was still alive and doing well was enough to prove that.

“Mis–Miss Luo, I don’t know what to say,” Sister Ruan began speaking when she saw that her husband was standing silently beside her. She knew that the poor mer had been shocked silly by one revelation after another. It was bad enough that Du De was involved with a mer who was married, but what was worse was that she was actually involved with Luo Huian’s husband.

She could have gone after anyone, but she chose to go after someone she should never have!

Sister Ruan was going crazy just thinking about it.

She tried to smile at Luo Huian, but her smile was so strained that it looked worse than her crying.

Luo Huian was amused by their antics. She said to the poor couple, “There is no need to be so troubled. You have done nothing wrong.”

Of course, they hadn’t done anything wrong, but the same couldn’t be said for Du De. She had done something really, really wrong!

Luo Huian knew why the two of them were troubled and scared like this, but she did not clear up the misunderstanding deliberately. Though she had no affection for Liao Liqin at the moment, she still cared for the mer. He had gone through a lot of suffering, and that was how he managed to make it alive till now.

He still had one obstacle left in front of him, and if he survived that, then he would be able to overcome all kinds of hardships in his life. But the problem was that this obstacle was connected with Du De rather closely. Though Luo Huian had already taken enough precautions to make sure that the two of them wouldn’t get entangled, and even if they did, she would be able to protect Liao Liqin. However, there was always a ‘what if?’—after all, what was stored and written by fate cannot be changed.

So, she could only hope that these two people would be able to restrain Du De before she ruined her altogether.
