CHAPTER 149: ACCUSING ME UNJUSTLY

When Father Xie thought about how his good son was forced into marrying that Ruan Chanchan, his heart couldn’t help but ache. He knew that there was nothing wrong with Ruan Chanchan’s character and that she was a really good girl. But in the end, he was a father, and he had given birth to Xie Daiyu after suffering from nine months of pregnancy. How could he not be upset with his wife when he found out that she had actually given his son to Ruan Chanchan? That too, without even asking him a thing! She could have simply chosen another solution. Why did she have to push their son into the fire pit? What was she even thinking!?

"You are unjustly accusing me." Chief Xie wanted to fight back but was slapped on the face again. Upset with the situation, she couldn’t help but say, "Do you think that our son is so nice that he will listen to what I tell him just like that? Unless he wanted to do it, no one in this family could make him submit. Alrighty?"

"My son was just looking after you. He didn’t want to embarrass you as the chief of the tribe, and that was the only reason he allowed you to make that decision," Father Xie shouted angrily.

"It’s all my fault. I am the one who is in the wrong. Just don’t get angry, my dear. If you want, then you can slap me a few more times. As long as your anger simmers down, I am willing to be beaten." Chief Xie couldn’t bear seeing her husband angry, so she hurriedly tried to calm him down.

Guo An glared at his wife. Did she think that these sweet words were enough to calm down? Of course not.

"I know that you are upset because Ruan Chanchan doesn’t have a totem, but she is really kind, and her character is much better than Shao Xia’s. You know it too, don’t you? She saved the lives of our tribe members. And if there is something that she doesn’t know, then I am there to teach her, and if you think that I cannot do a good job, then you can take the task over." She added in a hurry when she saw her husband narrowing his eyes at her. "I mean, you are an expert when it comes to such things, Guo An. I am sure that you can straighten Ruan Chanchan right up."

"What do you mean by those words? Do you mean to say that I am a fierce mer? Is that what you are trying to say? Do you think I am going to be a bad father-in-law?" Guo An questioned while staring at his wife.

"Who said that? My Guo An is the prettiest and the most beautiful," praised Chief Xie. If someone looked at her carefully, they could see that she was sweating profusely.

It seemed like she needed to talk with Xie Daiyu.

Even though she made the decision in the heat of the moment, Ruan Chanchan was still Xie Daiyu’s destined one. Her son was the one who asked her to arrange for this to happen. He certainly couldn’t blame her. Oh, he’d better not blame her. Chief Xie decided that she was going to talk with her son and let him know that even if he suffers in the future, he could only talk about it to her rather than someone else. If he told his father that he was unhappy then Guo An would peel a layer of skin off her body.

Even if he is not satisfied, he has to say that he is satisfied!

When Xie Daiyu saw the mess in the cave, he knew that there was no point in getting involved. He turned around on his feet and escaped.

He would rather let his mother sort this mess out before trouble reached him.

The next morning, when Ruan Chanchan woke up, she found Xie Daiyu waiting for her. He had gone hunting earlier in the morning and had caught a long-haired beast. Its fur was white and rather fluffy, which made it look even prettier. Just like a rabbit but egg-shaped. This beast was not easy to catch, as it could dig into soil at rapid speed and would often disappear under the ground before anyone could catch it. Only someone as skilled as Xie Daiyu was capable of catching these beasts. Its fur was a favourite of the mers and the women. Even men liked to make beds with the fur of this long-haired beast.

"Ruan Chanchan, are you awake?" Xie Daiyu greeted Ruan Chanchan with a smile on his lips when he saw that she had woken up. "Wait a moment, I will go ahead and skin this thing for you. Eating this little thing won’t catch the attention of the elders." now that Xie Daiyu had confirmed that Ruan Chanchan was his chosen one, he had no qualms about taking care of her.

"Did you go hunting so early?" Ruan Chanchan, who was used to sleeping late, woke up when she heard Xie Daiyu pacing outside. She wanted to ignore the mer and continue sleeping but when she saw that he was waiting for her silently, Ruan Chanchan couldn’t harden her heart and ignore him. What surprised her was that Xie Daiyu actually hunted a beast for her to eat. If she was not wrong, then it wasn’t even four in the morning, and yet this mer was already up and about for her sake.

Seeing this, Ruan Chanchan could no longer play dead. She got up and tried to suppress her embarrassment when she saw that even her little brother had long disappeared from the cave. The totem warriors were used to waking up early and sleeping late. Something Ruan Chanchan was sure that she couldn’t get used to, even if she tried her best.

Xie Daiyu quickly cleaned up the beast, which was almost as big as a sheep and could easily be eaten by four people. "Yeah, I know you cannot eat the meat of the beasts that we hunt, so I tried hunting something different."
