Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!
Chapter 148: Sowing Discord
CHAPTER 148: CHAPTER 148: SOWING DISCORD
The room suddenly fell silent, leaving only the two of them.
Caleb Sinclair noticed she no longer had that white box in her hand, his lips forming a sharp line.
Sienna Monroe approached the edge of the bed.
One standing, one sitting, one high, one low.
One looking down, one looking up, just staring at each other like that.
"Why did you take so long?"
"Why are you scaring the little girl?"
The deep hoarse voice and the gentle pleasant voice sounded simultaneously.
Both were taken aback.
Sienna said, "I stayed downstairs for a bit of a chat."
But she didn’t say with whom.
Caleb Sinclair’s eyes were dark, as if containing some kind of storm, and he said in a deep voice, "With Auntie Rennick?"
Sienna felt uncomfortable being watched like this by him, suppressed her emotions and said, "Didn’t I tell you when I went down?"
She hesitated for a moment, reaching out to feel his forehead, it seemed like the temperature had risen a bit again.
Frowning, she asked seriously, "Why aren’t you getting a shot? The fever seems to have returned."
Caleb squinted at her, still a bit gloomy, as if he was still assessing the truth of her concern.
After a moment, he spoke, "I just got a call from Special Assistant Langley, who said they tracked down the person manipulating public opinion a few days ago."
Sienna was startled, instinctively asked, "Who?"
"Sebastian Prescott."
Caleb stared at her face, slowly uttering these two words.
Sienna was shocked.
Her first reaction was that it’s impossible!
It couldn’t be Sebastian.
He is her attorney, there’s no need for him to do such a thing.
Moreover, in the more than three months they had known each other, she felt Sebastian wasn’t the type to engage in despicable acts like this.
She met Caleb’s dark eyes, unexpectedly capturing a hint of malice.
But it quickly vanished.
Her heart sank slightly.
She guessed his intention.
He wanted to sow discord in her relationship with Sebastian.
Besides, Caleb had always seemed to mind Sebastian’s presence.
And this discomfort stemmed from a man’s instinctive possessiveness, and that bit of fragile pride.
From the beginning, she knew Caleb was sensitive about his illegitimate status, and he feared criticism.
He cared about his face.
So, over the years, loving him meant always giving him respect, never comparing their family backgrounds, always being considerate of his feelings.
Afraid he’d be hurt or frustrated.
Audrey once said, since she clearly held a high position in this relationship, why did she always lower herself for Caleb.
But she never felt inferior to him; she believed they were equals, mutually respectful.
He cherished her, she was considerate to him.
There was no need to fight for some so-called dominance.
These memories, like a slideshow, like fireworks, blossomed one after another in her mind.
Just as she frowned slightly, Caleb’s sinister voice abruptly sounded in her ears, "You don’t believe me?"
Sienna pulled away from her memories, didn’t say whether she believed or not, just replied, "I’m just surprised. He doesn’t seem like that kind of person."
"Do you know Sebastian well?"
Sienna paused slightly.
She couldn’t say she knew him well. What she knew about him was quite superficial, and she hadn’t even deliberately learned about the first prestigious family in Imperial City, The Prescott Family.
Calmly, she said, "Not really. But I think creating public opinion to ruin my reputation wouldn’t benefit him. I can’t figure out his motive."
"You can’t judge a book by its cover. Just because he looks respectable, who knows what he’s like in private?"
Caleb mocked coldly, "A person who could cause his twin sister’s death at three, what good could he be."
Cause his twin sister’s death?
Sienna’s pupils suddenly contracted.
The Joy Prescott she saw in Westwood was...
Weren’t she and Sebastian supposed to be twin siblings?
Although she was part of the prestigious circles in Imperial City, it seemed she always had a barrier with these families.
A barrier she couldn’t cross, and was unwilling to.
As some people in the circles would say, those who study art aren’t easy to get along with, so lofty and different from ordinary people like them.
She really knew nothing about The Prescott Family.
So she was particularly surprised now.
Perhaps due to her irritable mood, the jealousy and anger about to burst from her chest, Caleb inexplicably caught a trace of fear in her eyes.
He wanted to sow discord between Sienna and Sebastian, wanted Sienna to take the initiative to distance herself from Sebastian.
Make him her only support.
Only support...
He recalled Sienna’s dependency during her hospitalization after the miscarriage.
That couldn’t have been fake.
So, even if there really was something between Sienna and Sebastian, he didn’t mind.
Yes.
He didn’t mind.
After all, he and Vivian Nash had had a history, they’d both strayed once, so that evened things out.
The burden and guilt in his heart diminished slightly, and another new idea surfaced in his mind.
Dependency...
Yes, as long as there is dependency, she can’t leave him.
But how to make her develop dependency on him again?
Sowing discord wasn’t enough.
Too slow.
A flash of coldness flickered in his eyes.
He had to eliminate Sebastian as the biggest threat.
In Sienna’s shocked expression, he held her hand, the gloom in his eyes and the oppressive atmosphere around him dissipating.
He comforted her gently, "Sienna, it’s okay, don’t be afraid. Just stay away from him in the future, and as for the public opinion he created, I’ll have Special Assistant Langley continue investigating."
Sienna snapped back to reality, her gaze focused, falling into his gentle and affectionate eyes.
She was really curious.
How could a person’s face change so quickly?
There was no need to guess, she understood that the story about Sebastian causing his twin sister’s death was deliberately told to her.
But it did make her feel a bit suspicious and curious.
No fear or panic.
She didn’t want to be entangled in this issue too much, so she nodded, "Alright. Now, shouldn’t we cooperate with the nurse for the injection?"
Seeing the helplessness on her face, Caleb smiled, reaching out to squeeze her palm.
Her hand was beautiful, fair and slender.
Her palm felt a bit soft and fleshy.
"It’s my fault. Just now when I got the call from Special Assistant Langley, I lost control of my emotions for a bit. I was just so angry, fearing he would hurt you. But don’t worry, this won’t happen again; I’m here."
He saw himself as her savior.
As long as he stood before her in all difficulties, protecting her, she would be moved and softened.
He didn’t consider it self-deception.
It was a conclusion drawn from understanding Sienna.
Sienna was never a person with a hard heart.
