Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!
Chapter 24: Let This Be the Last Farewell
CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 24: LET THIS BE THE LAST FAREWELL
"Coincidence."
Sebastian Prescott replied concisely with just two words, without any intention of further explanation.
A coincidence that Caleb Sinclair and Vivian Nash entered the old equipment room?
His answer was perhaps ambiguous, still left to guessing.
Sienna Monroe didn’t dwell on the matter, "Just now... thanks."
"June Ewing is investigating the informant and our relationship."
Sebastian’s voice was calm, but Sienna was shocked, "Investigating... investigating us?"
Sienna had anticipated that June Ewing would investigate the person who reported Radiance Beauty Spa to the tax authorities, but that she would investigate her and Sebastian was indeed unexpected.
"Then has she..."
Found out?
If June Ewing knew that she was commissioning him to handle her divorce from Caleb Sinclair, that would be a minor issue. After all, she now had some evidence, leaving just his transaction records with Vivian Nash.
But what if June Ewing found out she had discovered the underground operations?
After all, she didn’t have any evidence of the underground operations yet.
"She hasn’t found out." Sebastian smirked slightly, "But... there might be some misunderstanding."
Misunderstanding?
What misunderstanding?
Sienna was puzzled, seeing that Sebastian didn’t intend to explain further.
As long as she hasn’t found out, it’s fine.
"If she can investigate you and me, she should know that we know each other," Sebastian reminded.
Sienna frowned slightly, "I’ll be careful."
Sebastian nodded faintly, "Alright, I’m leaving."
"Okay."
Sienna watched him leave, pondered for a while, then took out her phone and sent a message to Vivian Nash.
Since it’s an act, it must look the part.
She calmed her emotions for a moment, and seeing that the people by the old equipment room had left, she began to walk over. Just after turning a small corner, she unexpectedly ran into Caleb Sinclair and Vivian Nash.
The three of them were all taken aback.
Surprise slowly spread in Sienna’s eyes, and she quickly reacted, asking, "Why are you two together?"
Caleb’s eyes flickered with a hint of tension and anxiety, and he said at the same time as her, "Sienna, where did you just go?"
Vivian stood slightly behind Caleb, nervously licking her lips, but when she met Sienna’s gaze, there was a hint of smugness and righteousness.
Caleb calmly explained, "I just saw her here and thought you were here too, so I came over."
Their clothes were neat, not a bit out of place, and on the surface, there was no indication of what they had just done inside.
Vivian had even reapplied her lipstick.
It seemed they had tidied up a bit inside before coming out.
Sienna used a pre-prepared excuse, "Vivian went to the restroom. I saw she hadn’t come back for a long time, and didn’t reply to my messages, so I came to check."
"Vivian, are you okay?"
Vivian took out her phone and saw that Sienna had indeed sent her a message ten minutes ago, then smiled and shook her head, "I’m fine now. My phone somehow got silent, so I didn’t see the message, sorry, Sienna."
Sienna smiled, "It’s okay."
Caleb’s breath was suspended in midair, not daring to relax, carefully observing Sienna’s expression, but he couldn’t find any abnormalities in her tone or look.
"Sienna, where did you come from?" he asked cautiously.
Sienna blinked, "The basketball hall. I originally wanted to go watch the students play basketball with Vivian."
The basketball hall was behind the old sports equipment room, just the direction she had walked from.
But she and Sebastian had taken the back door of the new equipment room to avoid being seen while eavesdropping in the alley.
Even so, she and Sebastian had been careful to avoid being caught by walking around that way.
Caleb still couldn’t see anything unusual on her face, and finally, he let out the breath he’d been holding. He smiled and walked to her side, "So, are we still going to watch?"
As he approached, Sienna caught a whiff of the perfume on him.
It was Vivian’s floral fragrance, somewhat intense, with a hint of grassy scent in the base notes.
She frowned subconsciously, asking uncertainly, "Why do you have Vivian’s perfume scent on you?"
Only by showing appropriate confusion would he let his guard down.
Caleb froze, his mouth open but silent, as Vivian spoke up first, "Maybe my perfume is too strong today, and it got on him while we were standing together?"
"Probably." Caleb lifted his arm to smell it calmly, "Is it strong?"
"It’s okay. Since it’s just transferred, it’ll fade later." Sienna proactively changed the subject, "Shall we head over to the art department? We haven’t gone there yet, and it’s been a while since we’ve visited."
"Okay."
"Then you guys go ahead. I won’t be the third wheel. I’ll go check out the basketball game. Message me when you’re done."
Vivian Nash, having tasted the sweetness of the moment, wisely gave them space.
Before Sienna Monroe could speak, Vivian waved her hand, excitedly turning around to head towards the basketball court.
Caleb Sinclair noticed the unopened milk tea in her hand and asked with a smile, "Is this for me?"
"Yeah, it’s not hot anymore." Sienna handed it to him, "Or should I go get another one? It’s not far."
"No need, it’s a bit warm right now, and a cold drink feels better."
With that, Caleb had already opened the milk tea and held her hand.
Feeling the warmth of his hand, Sienna frowned. Thinking of the kissing sound she heard between him and Vivian earlier made her feel nauseous.
How could he act so nonchalant and calm as if nothing happened?
Just moments ago, he was kissing Vivian, and now he was gently holding her hand to reminisce about their romantic memories.
How hypocritical and disgusting.
In Caleb’s heart, what position did she and Vivian hold?
Sienna couldn’t understand how something once so deep and passionate could change so much.
Resisting the urge to pull her hand away, she softly asked, "What did Principal King want to talk to you about?"
"Capital University is organizing a foreign language competition and wants me to invest."
Caleb chuckled, "It sounds interesting, but it depends on their proposal. I knew he had ulterior motives for inviting us, not just the anniversary event. That old man is quite shrewd."
Sienna nodded, not responding further.
The art courtyard was filled with cherry blossom trees, especially the one near their old classroom, which was particularly beautiful.
It was winter now, and only bare branches were left, making the courtyard look quite desolate.
"I remember the first time I saw you, you were sketching under this cherry blossom tree."
It was April, cherry blossoms were fluttering in the wind, and she sat there with her long hair flowing, a fair and attractive face without makeup, wearing a white blouse and an orange skirt, both admiring the scenery and drawing.
That scene was both beautiful and romantic, deeply etched in his memory.
He thought he would never forget it in his life.
Sienna stopped. She used to love this cherry blossom tree and had painted it many times.
In the rain, on sunny days, under the sunset, at night.
She recalled that the flower language of cherry blossoms symbolized love, everlasting happiness, elegant and pure romance.
"There’s no going back."
Sienna’s gaze was desolate, her voice steady, "Those beautiful moments, they’re gone forever."
"It’s okay, those beautiful moments are our cherished memories, and we still have the future. When spring comes, and the flowers bloom, we can come see them together."
Sienna let out a slight smile, a very faint curve.
She did not reply.
Because she knew clearly that there was no future for them.
As for those beautiful past moments, if they couldn’t be forgotten, then they should be thrown in the trash.
Sienna and Caleb walked for over an hour, retracing the paths they took during their school days.
It was as if they were laying this Chapter to rest...
Ha, she couldn’t even find the words to describe it,
as the memories flashed through her mind like a slideshow.
How could something that was once so good become so unfamiliar?
She couldn’t figure it out.
What exactly is the human heart, so hard to control and so easily changed?
But since the ending was destined not to be dignified, then let this be the final goodbye.
Perhaps it’s for the best.
Sienna turned her face away, unable to hold back as her eyes turned red.
The party was held at a hotel, attended by many prominent figures.
Caleb was in his element at such events, and Sienna gracefully mingled with the ladies, chatting and laughing.
Ding!
The sound of a text alert rang out.
Sienna’s heart trembled slightly, but her smile remained unchanged. After finishing a conversation with a lady, she apologized, "Excuse me for a moment."
She read the message after reaching the restroom.
