Chapter 357: The Book of Friends Improvement Plan

Neither in the morning or at noon did Wade see Dumbledore. He had assumed the headmaster would be back at school before dinner, yet even during the evening meal, the staff table remained without his presence.

Wade sent a message through the Book of Friends, but no response came. He was starting to get worried.

Logically speaking, four vampires shouldn't pose any threat to Dumbledore. But what if…?

Those individuals have already shown they possessed something capable of forcing werewolves to transform prematurely—who knows what other weapons they might have?

The lingering concern left Wade distracted for the rest of the evening, right up until Harry came looking for him.

On Saturday morning, during breakfast, Harry scooted closer to Wade and lowered his voice. "Wade, I want to use the Vanishing Cabinet to go to Hogsmeade later."

Harry knew about the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement.

Wade had hidden quite a few secrets there, and even when he wasn't actively using the Room, at least one house-elf was stationed inside to handle simple tasks, ensuring the space remained "active."

This setup significantly reduced the chances of someone accidentally stumbling in. Even if someone happened to guess the "entry password" correctly, the house-elf would immediately notify Wade.

So far, that has never happened.

Because of this, whenever Harry wanted to use the Vanishing Cabinet, he had to inform Wade first, so the house-elf could leave the room and grant him access.

"To Hogsmeade?" Wade asked in surprise, and his expression shifted slightly as a thought crossed his mind.

Sure enough, Harry continued, looking worried.

"Lupin hasn't responded to any of my messages. I asked Sirius, but he lost contact with him too."

"I'm really worried… Do you think something happened to him? Could the Ministry be giving him trouble again?"

"Sirius told me to stay put at school, saying he'd go check things out, but I still want to see for myself..."

"Sorry…" Wade said apologetically. "I actually know what happened to Lupin, but I forgot to tell you guys."

Technically, only a day and a half had passed. But since Wade had used the Time-Turner multiple times, it felt like it had been several days since Lupin transformed into a werewolf.

Preoccupied with waiting for Dumbledore's return, he had completely forgotten to inform Harry and Sirius.

Harry froze. "…Something really did happen to Lupin?"

"Sort of…" Wade glanced at the students passing by the long tables and lowered his voice. "This isn't the place to talk. Let's finish eating first, then we'll go somewhere private."

Harry, clearly distracted, nodded absentmindedly. He grabbed a pie, stuffed two bites into his mouth, and declared he was full.

"No, you're not." Hermione, sitting nearby, spoke sternly. "Don't forget, you have Quidditch practice today. Training on an empty stomach won't do you any good."

It was the weekend, so there was no rush to get to class. Hermione could finally enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

Even so, her school bag was packed to the brim and looked incredibly heavy.

Harry sighed and reluctantly picked up his half-eaten pie, taking another bite.

Wade knew he was anxious, so he quickly finished his own breakfast. The two of them left the Great Hall together, but before they could go far, a breathless student ran up behind them.

"Harry… Harry Potter!" The student looked at the young Boy Who Lived with admiration and said while stammering, "Professor McGonagall wants you to go to her office."

"Right now?" Harry asked hesitantly. "I have something important to do."

The younger student looked conflicted. "But… but Professor McGonagall said—"

"Go on, Harry," Wade said. "You can meet me at the library later. I'll be free all day."

"Alright," Harry nodded and finally followed the student away.

Wade turned and headed to the library.

In truth, he had no assignments to complete.

Out of his twelve subjects, he was far ahead of his classmates in Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. The professors had even granted him exemptions from writing homework for those subjects.

For the rest, including Arithmancy, the material was relatively easy for him. He had already mastered most of the knowledge, so completing assignments was a breeze.

History of Magic, Divination, and Muggle Studies had practically turned into designated homework periods. If it weren't for the fact that a missing student in those sparsely attended classes would be immediately noticed, Wade might have skipped them entirely.

To keep his Time-Turner, Wade—like Hermione—maintained perfect attendance in all his classes.

Among his friends, Harry and Neville could never quite figure out how he managed it. The others, however, had their suspicions.

Lately, Wade had been working on improving the Book of Friends.

Adding more functions to a small piece of parchment was far more difficult than enchanting an entire house.

After all, its capacity was limited, and even the slightest mistake could easily damage it.

Even a minor upgrade significantly increased the cost, yet the selling price couldn't be raised too much—otherwise, customers wouldn't be willing to buy it.

Wade wasn't expecting the Book of Friends to become as multifunctional as a smartphone. For now, he just wanted to improve its ability to store information.

Originally, messages in the Book of Friends would automatically disappear if not checked in time.

For casual group chats, that wasn't a big deal. But when important messages vanished along with them, it became a serious inconvenience.

The notification system also needed improvement.

As someone who wasn't fond of chatting, Wade often found his Book of Friends heating up throughout the day—sometimes it stayed warm for an entire day.

And when he finally checked, it was often just the house-elves discussing their daily tasks, or SSC members planning maze strategies and homework priorities.

This led to hesitation—checking the book might just waste time on trivial conversations, but ignoring it risked missing something important.

To fix this, Wade decided to modify the notification system:

~He would eliminate redundant reminders for group messages.

~Messages would be categorized by importance, each with a different alert style.

~Urgent, high-priority messages would trigger a loud, siren-like sound.

Finally, Wade planned to add a feature of sending pictures to the Book of Friends.

Previously, it only allowed hand-drawn pictures to be shared. But now, he intended to make it so that placing an image between two parchment pages would imprint and transfer it to the recipient within seconds.

This was a feature that many students had been subtly—or not so subtly—begging him to add.

Not for any serious reason—just that during holidays, they wanted to copy each other's homework. The problem was, whoever finished their assignments first had to manually write everything into the Book of Friends again, which they found annoying.

After thinking it over, Wade figured the feature wasn't too complicated to implement. Plus, it could also be useful for sending photos to his parents in the future—so he decided to go ahead with it.
