Chapter 178: The Dark Witch

Both Malfoy and Rabastan were staring at the witch with absolute confusion. All of the other boys who had come with them were now on the ground, and it didn't look like they were going to be standing up any time soon.

"Who are you?!" Malfoy asked her.

But the witch was now looking at Rabastan.

This one felt extremely uncomfortable under the gaze of her deep black eyes.

Rabastan reacted with fury, aiming his wand at her. "You…" He had only taken his eyes off her for less than a second, and she was already gone.

Lestrange felt something hit the back of his head, promptly followed by an acute pain, then… nothing.

"Ahhh!" Malfoy screamed in horror. It all happened so quickly.

That old witch moved at an impossible speed and situated herself behind Lestrange. Before he had time to react, she grabbed his head and separated it from his body like it was nothing.

She made it seem so effortlessly that it gave the appearance that Lestrange's body was made of something as soft as butter.

The witch let out a loud and creepy chuckle as she held the bleeding head of Rabastan Lestrange in her hand, and then looked towards James.

"Lily… run," James told her.

"Hihihi, was this one a friend of yours, Mister Malfoy?" she asked.

"Mmm?…" James looked confused for a moment since she was obviously talking to him.

It took him a moment to realize what had happened.

During his visit to her shop, he had given her the name of Draco Malfoy. So when Lestrange mentioned that name, she made the assumption that

Lestrange was one of his friends and killed him with no hesitation.

He never thought that this little lie of his would lead to the death of the last Lestrange brother.

'Oh well… I was planning on killing that one later on.'

His eyes moved to Lily. The girl was frozen in place. Her face showed how terrified she was as she stared at the macabre spectacle in front of her.

"Snape!" James shouted at the other boy. "Come over here, take Lily and bring her as far away as possible."

Snape seemed to react to his words and turned his attention to Lily. He only hesitated for a moment before running towards them and grabbing her by the arm.

Lily was too confused at the moment to even resist his pull and allowed Snape to bring her away from James.

"No, you don't." The witch reacted to this. She was not inclined to permit anyone to escape her grasp now.

She moved so fast that her body almost looked like a blur.

Yet, James was ready for her. From his right wrist, the silvery bracelet transformed into a long piece of metal that moved right in front of Snape and Lily.

Once it had gotten into position, hundreds of little spikes grew from its surface, creating a protective metallic wall that forced the witch to rethink her plan.

"Nyxaris." James continued by calling on his second creation.

The fairy came out completely ready to fight and began assaulting the witch with a barrage of spells. Her mental connection with James allowed her to communicate with her Master without the need for an exchange of words.

The witch had to move away and allow Lily to escape.

Malfoy, who was watching everything, decided that he didn't want to remain here any longer. He turned around and began to rush towards the castle.

It was at that moment that Sirius and the others finally managed to get past the crowd forming nearby and were able to see what was happening.

"There is Lily! She is with… Snape?" Marlene pointed at the redhead.

"James!" Bella found him, facing off against the witch. "Who is that?"

"Don't come near!" Snape shouted at the crowd. "Don't go near that witch! She just killed Lestrange!"

"Snivelus? What are you doing here?" Sirius spotted all the boys lying on the ground around James and the witch and recognized the Slytherin uniforms on them. He then understood why Snape had come here. "How dare you!"

"Are those guys all dead?…" Peter wondered.

The students behind them began to murmur about what was happening.

"There's a pool of blood over there!"

"Merlin! That guy is dead! Look — his head is gone!"

"Someone, call the Aurors, quick!"

"Is that witch attacking James?" Remus asked. "We have to do something."

"Go ahead then. She'll kill you too," Snape said. "You didn't see her move… she's a monster."

"Let go of Lily," Sirius snapped at him. "Is she hurt?"

"She is fine," Snape responded. "And it was Potter who told me to take her with me. She would have been killed if she had stayed with him."

"Lily looks so scared. Give her here." Marlene took Lily from Snape's arms. "I think she's in shock."

"Fuguras!" Nyxaris produced a bolt of lightning aimed at the witch.

The latter moved out of the way just in time to let the lightning pass by her.

"This fairy is very feisty, I'll give you that. And…" She glanced at the wall of metal that was now surrounding her completely.

Tertivor had expanded its size, creating a circumference that didn't allow her to escape while Nyxaris kept her in place.

The two of them were working together and trying their best.

However, James knew that this was not going to be enough. "Primum." He called as his white ring was tossed into the air.

"Kyu!" The chimera transformed, floating above him.

"No more holding back… we're ending this warlock right here and now." James pulled a bag from his robes. Inside it were all the magical crystals he had left. "Nine left," he counted them.

These objects were hard to come by, but they were the quickest way to empower his first creation.

"Here, Primum… eat a snack. There's a witch to kill."
