Chapter 180: Five Pillars Formation
The witch glared at him for a moment. "Boy, let me make one thing clear… you have no chance of winning this fight. But if you give me what I want, I am willing to let this go. Otherwise…" she pointed at the dead body of Rabastan Lestrange. "You and your other friends are going to end up like that one."
"That idiot was no friend of mine. I was actually planning on killing him later," James responded.
The witch did not look amused. "Give me the leather. I know you have it… I have been waiting for too long to find someone who could enter that tomb and get it for me."
"So you knew it was in the tomb. But you were too useless to get it yourself, got it." James formed a spark of lightning around his wand. "And you think you can beat me? How arrogant…"
A spark of light appeared in front of him and shot towards the witch. "Fulgor."
She used her own arm to deflect the magic. Part of her robes burned off, revealing her hard skin underneath.
This had a pale green tone and featured some scales, making it appear quite inhuman.
James noted that his lightning had barely any effect on her, despite being hot enough to melt iron and turn it into a puddle.
"What have you done to your body?"
The old woman grinned and was about to speak again when Primum came charging from the sky with its mouth open, trying to bite her head off.
She jumped to meet him in the air and gave Primum a resounding slap on its face, one that carried enough force to send the now colossal creature tumbling onto the ground.
"Divulsa." He made a line with his wand, forming a purple blade of light that shot out towards the witch.
James decided to continue his assault from afar, not wanting to get close to someone who could handle Primum in its ultimate form with just her hands.
It was obvious that this woman had done many modifications to her body, turning herself into a magical weapon capable of superhuman feats.
James could enhance himself temporarily, but even then, he could not compete with something like that.
The old woman seemed to recognize the dark curse and decided not to test it on her skin. With a light tap on the ground, she formed a wall of dirt that received the impact.
It was then that James noticed something off about the way she kept transfiguring the ground. It was too fast to be a simple transfiguration, not even for a wandless one.
It was like she had complete control over the dirt beneath her and could transform it at will.
"You are an earth elemental," James muttered.
The witch heard him and looked somewhat surprised. "You know about elementals as well. Quite knowledgeable for someone so young. Maybe too knowledgeable."
James thought it was a fair statement. After all, the existence of elemental wizards and witches was not exactly common knowledge.
Centuries ago, there were several tribes capable of bending one of the four basic elements. But once magical societies began to form, the people in power decided that the elemental tribes were too much of a threat and hunted them down before it was too late.
A single elemental wizard would be able to take down ten normal ones on average, so this was not an unfounded fear. If they banded together, no government would be able to enforce any law on them.
"I merely read about them in some forgotten tome, never met one in person. They were supposed to be extinct."
"That's not too far from the truth, as I am probably the last one alive," the witch responded.
James aimed his wand again. "Then I'll have to fix that."
She growled at him. "You pretentious boy… You don't know what you are dealing with. These alchemy toys you created will not be enough against someone like me!"
"I know, but…" James saw Primum standing up. "That was not the point right now." Dozens of white ropes were conjured in front of him before being tossed her way.
At the same time, Primum jumped into the air and attacked her from above.
"Master!" Nyxaris shouted to warn him.
"Do it," James ordered her.
"But Master… you will become tr—"
"Activate it already! This is an order," James exclaimed. He never meant to use the barrier to trap the witch while he escaped.
If he did that, even if the Ministry managed to capture her, they would not be able to hold someone that powerful.
James did not want to worry about this monster cruising into his house to kill his family in the near future.
He was ending her now. The barrier was not only to prevent her escape but also to protect the village from what he was about to do.
"What is that?!" Sirius pointed at the sky.
Five white stone pillars were now hovering over the area where James was standing.
They had appeared out of nowhere at the moment when Nyxaris had completed her magical formation.
"James! Get out of there!" Remus shouted.
"Don't tell me…" Bella stared at Nyxaris. She knew the fairy would never do something like this without James's consent.
"What is he planning now?"
The witch saw what was happening and finally realized that she was in danger.
However, when she tried to make an escape, she was delayed by a combination of Primum and the ropes that James had conjured.
Just long enough for Nyxaris to finish the spell and close the formation, trapping them inside.
