Chapter 19 Consider Yourself Ruthless
CHAPTER 19: CHAPTER 19 CONSIDER YOURSELF RUTHLESS
A searing pain exploded across his face. Liu San was completely stunned. This beggar actually dared to lay a hand on him?
"Are you threatening me? Who the hell gave you the courage? If I weren’t afraid of scaring my wife, you’d be reporting to King Yama right now," Lin Xiao said icily.
At some point, his gaze had changed. It was now like the edge of a blade, like the depths of an abyss, as if it could swallow Liu San’s very soul.
Liu San’s heart skipped a beat. Having navigated the underworld for so many years, he had seen all sorts of people and all kinds of gazes. He even felt that someone as powerful as his boss, the King of Jinling, or even the more formidable King of the Southern Town, didn’t have eyes as terrifying as this young man’s. Under that stare, Liu San had the distinct illusion that this kid would actually dare to kill him.
He had intended to continue confronting Lin Xiao, but he suddenly changed his mind. This kid had some skill. If they really came to blows, he’d probably be the one to lose. The most important thing right now was to save his own skin. Once he was away from here, he could figure out a way to kill this piece of trash.
With this in mind, Liu San said viciously, "Brat, you’re ruthless. We’ll meet again!"
After spitting out the threat, Liu San turned to leave with his lackey. But how could Lin Xiao let him get away so easily? Humiliate my wife and then just walk away scot-free? There’s no such thing in this world.
"Stop!" Lin Xiao commanded.
Suppressing his seething rage, Liu San turned back. "Kid, what more do you want?"
"First, apologize to my wife. Second, pay the bill!"
Liu San trembled with anger. He had already backed down, yet this brat was still pushing it. Did he really think he was afraid of him?
"You little bastard, you really think—"
SLAP!
Before Liu San could finish his sentence, Lin Xiao smacked him hard across the face again. The pain was so intense he almost blacked out.
"Do you think I was negotiating with you?"
Liu San’s blood pressure soared, and he trembled with uncontrollable rage. He glared at Lin Xiao, and their eyes locked for a tense moment. Finally, grinding his teeth, Liu San said, "Fine! I’ll apologize, and I’ll pay the bill!"
The previously murderous Lin Xiao suddenly seemed like a different person. He beamed, "Thank you, Liu San." Then, he turned to the other man. "Brother, are you okay? You shouldn’t drink if you can’t hold your liquor. Look at you, you even bumped into something and started spitting up blood. Hurry up and clean that mess."
Lin Xiao was clearly smiling, but for some reason, both Liu San and his lackey shuddered involuntarily. The lackey scrambled to wipe the bloodstain from the floor.
Once he saw that the floor was mostly clean, Lin Xiao stood up and opened the door to the private room.
Su Qingning was pacing anxiously back and forth outside the private room. She desperately wanted to know what was happening inside, but the soundproofing was too effective; she couldn’t hear a thing. A part of her was genuinely worried about Lin Xiao. But then, she remembered how he had stubbornly insisted on barging in, and the anger made her want to spit blood.
Hmph. When you finally come out with your face beaten to a pulp, don’t you dare expect me to take you to the hospital!
Just as she was fretting, the door to the room suddenly swung open. Su Qingning’s heart sank. She whipped her head around, only to see Lin Xiao standing before her, beaming as if nothing had happened. She was completely taken aback. Liu San didn’t deal with this guy?
"Qingning, it’s all taken care of," Lin Xiao said cheerfully.
Su Qingning immediately scoffed. She didn’t believe for a second that he had actually ’taken care of’ Liu San. That was Liu San, a man even she couldn’t handle. How could a beggar like Lin Xiao possibly succeed? He must have knelt down and begged for mercy, or maybe he agreed to some humiliating conditions. That had to be why he wasn’t beaten up. It was one thing to have no money, power, or connections, but couldn’t he at least have some backbone?
Filled with intense dissatisfaction, Su Qingning strode into the private room.
