Chapter 284. The Runesmith lecture 2
CHAPTER 284: CHAPTER 284. THE RUNESMITH LECTURE 2
"Is that Kailen Darkhaven?"
"What is he doing here?"
"I don’t know? Why are you asking me? Am I his butler or something?"
"Don’t tell me he’s here for the runesmith course? Isn’t this guy an alchemist, what’s he doing here?"
"Hehehe. He may be a genius alchemist, but to think he’d let that get into his head. He’s obviously overestimating himself, in my opinion."
"Well, if there is one thing I have learnt about this fellow during these past few days of him being in the academy, it’s that he cannot be underestimated. Anytime you think he’s being overconfident or overestimating himself, he just does something incredulous that gives you a heart attack."
"Anyway, your girl called this morning, said I should apologize to you on her behalf."
"Dude, that vampire vixen sucked my heart away. Honestly, done with relationships. Also, she keeps apologizing, but she never stops cheating. For real man, I’m done with her."
"Should have seen her at the party last night. It was gruesome what she did. I thi—"
"Shhh. The instructor is here."
The conversations at the lecture hall came to a sudden halt, all eyes tracing towards a short feminine figure that had suddenly appeared on the podium.
"A dwarf," Kailen mused to himself inwardly.
The instructor was a female dwarf of about 1.2 meters tall. Her hair was all messed up and she had dark circles under her eyes, a clear indication that she had hardly had some sleep for some reason. She was in some sort of lab coat that fit her short petite, yet curvaceous frame perfectly. Traces of her tanned skin lingered beneath the black gloves she currently wore. She had no shoes on, just some beach slippers that made her appear carefree and casual.
Yet none of the students were stupid enough to underestimate her or act disrespectful to her. Satisfied with their composure and courtesy, she mused inwardly, "At least they are not like the previous batch."
"I am Sigrid Coppervein, your instructor for this year’s Runesmith course," the instructor announced in a harsh, commanding tone that betrayed her cute, carefree appearance. Under the calm, curious, attentive gazes of the students, she then proceeded, "The course will be more practical oriented. I will only provide guidance during practical sessions when necessary..."
The instructor went on and on about the course outline for the year for about 5 minutes before she decided to delve into today’s topic. A large holographic screen appeared before the instructor, several smaller versions of it flickering to life before the students.
"Today’s course will be, introduction to runesmithery. First of all, we will learn about the various ranks in the runesmithery profession. After that, we will learn about what runes are, and call it a day. I always like to include my students in my lectures to make it more lively, as some fellas have a habit of falling asleep." She turned to look towards a certain direction; a fellow could be seen dozing off.
The students broke into stifled laughter as the person closer to him woke him up. The poor bastard had been drooling, having soaked his whole shirt. Embarrassingly, he apologized to the instructor, focusing on the lecture.
"What you do in your personal time is none of my business. However, make sure you get enough sleep before attending my lectures. The next time I find someone dozing off in my class or misbehaving, you’ll get a deduction of 900 student credits."
Several students made a personal note to themselves to never misconduct themselves in her class. This instructor was extremely black-hearted!
"You, what are the various ranks of runesmithery?"
The fellow who had been caught drooling on his saliva earlier turned to look behind him, second-guessing whether or not the instructor had pointed towards him.
"Yeah, you are the one I’m asking this question!"
The fellow shivered, cursing himself inwardly. "Damn it! Damn it! Damn it! Why did I have to attend that party! Damn peer pressure. Now the instructor is on my case."
Fortunately for him, he managed to remember the answer to the question the instructor had asked before things got worse. He had read it somewhere online. His voice, having been amplified in the ears of everyone by some sort of special technology, rushed into the ears of everyone in the large lecture hall, Kailen included:
"Runesmithery is divided in increasing order into rank 0, rank 1, up to rank 9.
Rank 0 is the lowest rank, where the runesmith can make runes that have an ascendant level effect.
Rank 1 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have a beginner stage galactic level effect.
Rank 2 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have an intermediate stage galactic level effect.
Rank 3 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have a supreme stage galactic level effect.
Rank 4 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have a beginner stage Dao level effect.
Rank 5 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have an intermediate stage Dao level effect.
Rank 6 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have a supreme stage Dao level effect.
Rank 7 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have a beginner stage universe level effect.
Rank 8 is next, where the runesmith can make runes that have an intermediate stage universe level effect.
Rank 9 is next, the highest level ,where the runesmith can make runes that have a supreme stage universe level effect."
The instructor nodded. "Exactly as he said."
The fellow heaved a sigh of relief after the instructor approved of what he said and sat down, obviously relieved that he didn’t make a fool of himself again before his coursemates on the first day of lectures.
No one was impressed, though, with his explanation, as this was common knowledge to almost everyone in the room, as they had read on the topic before the lecture. Well, for Kailen this was new. He had no knowledge of everything that had just been said. This was all new to him. He kept nodding to himself in understanding of what the weird fellow had just explained.
The instructor’s voice snapped his concentration towards her as she layered further, "However, what he failed to add—in a low tier civilisation like ours, however—the most Runesmiths with the most prestige are rank 3 Runesmiths."
