Rabin blocked Lin’s attempts to figure out where Lucy had gone.

Rabin’s unusual assertiveness caught Lin off guard. Despite his worries about Lucy, Arsil had gone after her, so Lin had little choice but to accept Rabin’s invitation.

After all, Lucy had left on her own, and Lin didn’t have a compelling reason to chase after her.

“Have you eaten?”

Lin shook his head. He had spent the day wandering aimlessly, worn out from Lucy’s emotional turmoil. Even though he usually enjoyed walking, a half-day with nothing but a sugar candy had left him weary.

“Wait here. Don’t go anywhere.”

Rabin left, instructing him firmly. Lin took the opportunity to look around. The people who had stared at Lucy’s sudden outburst had now returned to laughing and chatting amongst themselves.

People only cared about their own lives, as long as there wasn’t someone else’s misfortune to gawk at. Lin just hoped that this wouldn’t become another piece of gossip for the people of Lowellina.

“Here.”

Rabin returned, holding two steaming bowls of stir-fried noodles. It was a simple street food dish—thin noodles cooked with cabbage and a spicy sauce—but it was a flavor Lin knew well, and he looked forward to it.

“How much was it?”

“Don’t worry. I had a good haul today.”

When Lin tried to pay, Rabin waved him off lightly.

“Don’t tell me you’ve been picking Lowellina pockets?”

“Only from people who probably had it coming.”

Rabin said casually as she took a big bite of her noodles.
