PAID Chapter 84

Lin had no intention of accepting Agreus’s insincere proposition.

However, when he noticed Lucia, riddled with guilt, being swayed by the Pope’s manipulative words, Lin decided to de-escalate the situation. He claimed that they needed rest and took the Hero’s party back to their quarters.

Once they reached the prepared lodging, Lin had Tigrea cast a soundproofing spell on the room. He then turned to Lucia, warning her firmly.

“My arm is my responsibility.”

“But Lin...!”

“I have something I must accomplish here, and that takes priority.”

His tone was resolute and cold. Lucia, despite knowing why he had to be this way, couldn’t help but feel frightened by this version of Lin.

“They said the miasma could kill you. I’m doing this for you,” Lucia insisted.

“For me?” Lin sneered, cutting her off before Tigrea could even attempt to intervene.

“What are you trying to do, play the hero now? After all that?”

The silence that followed was deafening. Both the Hero and the mage found themselves at a loss for words, and eventually, Lucia’s tears began to fall while Tigrea looked on, eyes glistening.

“…Can I sit next to you?” Tigrea finally asked. When Lin reluctantly nodded, she gently guided Lucia to sit a little farther away from him.

“The situation here is strange, and we don’t know what could happen. So, we’ll stay,” Tigrea said quietly, pulling out a handkerchief to wipe Lucia’s tear-streaked face. “We don’t have the right to cry. We need to endure this, Luciena.”@@novelbin@@

Taking a deep breath, Lucia fought to stop her tears, but Lin’s anger gradually subsided as well.

“I’m sorry,” Lin said softly.
