Deep beneath the Papal Palace...

Agreus stood in the center of a glowing, ominous magic circle.

On either side of the circle, large glass containers held the slum’s adults, piled on top of each other, limp and lifeless. Red energy seeped from the containers, flowing into the magic circle. The Pope’s anxiety was palpable as he watched the scene unfold.@@novelbin@@

“It’s not enough. I rushed the process, and we couldn’t extract enough.”

“But Your Holiness, we’ve already taken every adult from the slums.”

Behind him, Casti knelt, subtly reproaching the Pope for his impatience.

“We’ve even received support from the Magic Warriors. Why the need for such haste?”

“The Magic Warriors only trust the Demon God and the Demon Lord. The moment they find us useless, they’ll eliminate us. Before that happens, I must acquire infinite divine power, sweep them away, and become the Demon God's first servant.”

Outwardly, the Pope appeared as devout a servant of the Demon God as any Magic Warrior, but he had his own agenda.

‘Once I gain divine power, remove the Magic Warriors, and even subdue the Demon God, I will be forgiven by the Goddess and blessed once again.’

For someone of his status, the Pope’s plan was simple and shallow. However, people who believed themselves intelligent and powerful often fell into the delusion that everything would fall into place once they grasped the power they desperately craved.

“It’s still not enough. At this rate, I won’t be able to meet Diane.”

“The magical formula indicates we only need three more days for the process to complete.”

“I need it by tomorrow! That porter, he’s caught the attention of the Demon God. I hear he led that recent charity work as well? Thanks to him, that fool Arsil has started to turn against us.”
