Heaven-Defying Rebel Sage
Chapter 151 - 151 151 Fighting the Desire to Overcome All
Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Fighting the Desire to Overcome All Buddhas Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Fighting the Desire to Overcome All Buddhas “I send you to Nirvana!”
Such a short sentence, six words long, how overbearing, how despotic! Tathagata, Burning Lamp, Maitreya—all among the top Primordial Golden Immortals—yet Wukong sought to send all three to Nirvana with his own power. To send the past, present, and future Buddhas of Spiritual Mountain to Nirvana? To outsiders, this surely seemed like a joke.
Tathagata rebuked, “How dare you, Victorious Fighting Buddha, commit such insolence!”
Wukong retorted, “Insolence? Buddha preached that all beings are equal. Although there are natural predators and prey, high and low statuses in the world, are not all things equal in Buddha’s eyes? Where is this insolence you speak of? Tathagata, you hypocritical Buddha, let me help you break through your delusions, and in your next life, may you achieve true Buddhahood!”
Having said that, Wukong didn’t speak further; the Jingu Bang in his hand transformed, growing thousands of feet long, and with one sweep, he turned the entire Great Thunderclap Monastery to ash.
At the sight, the faces of the three Buddhas flickered. The Great Thunderclap Monastery had just been demolished right before the eyes of the three Buddha Ancestors. It was a live slap in the face—not just a slap, but spit in the face as well.
“All delusions should not exist,” Wukong’s voice was light, yet there was a peculiar charm to it. It seemed to resonate with the Way, roaring in the sky, carrying for tens of thousands of miles.
“Summon three thousand Buddhas to capture this fellow,” Tathagata was furious and had already made his move.
Tathagata, holding a Vajra Pestle, took two steps over and struck down at Wukong’s crown. Instantly, Buddha’s Light burst forth, enveloping Wukong, then the Karmic Fire fiercely ignited—a flame that Tathagata had long cultivated and could control at will, fearing that slaying yet another body might taint him with karmic forces, a loss that would not be worth the gain.
Wukong formed a Dharma Seal with his left hand at his chest, the Immovable Fundamental Seal, and calmly said, “The Immovable Fundamental stands firm as a mountain, with Buddha forever in the heart. Such trifling karmic forces, what are they to me?”
All three Buddha Ancestors were astonished; this macaque was incredibly powerful. Even with the karmic forces burning his body, he still remained unmoved as a mountain.
Wukong raised the Jingu Bang to the sky, and in an instant, it struck the golden light above, shattering the fragile veil akin to an eggshell—yet as hard as refined cold iron. He then conjured another Dharma Seal, the Treasure Vase Seal, and atop his head materialized a white jade treasure vase, mouth pointing downward. Powerful suction then arose from the vase, drawing in all the Karmic Fire.
“Here you go!” Wukong exclaimed lightly as he tilted the vase, ejecting the Karmic Fire back towards the three Buddhas.
Not daring to be negligent, Tathagata hurriedly sacrificed a Sarira, which emitted a golden Buddha’s Light and fell into the Karmic Fire, halting it in the void. Buddha’s Light emerged and gradually extinguished the fire.
As Wukong advanced with his staff, Maitreya and Burning Lamp each brandished their magical treasures in defense, but Wukong’s staff technique was simply too unpredictable. Up close in battle, it was fortunate that the members of the Buddhist Family had robust Golden Bodies; otherwise, they might have been shattered long ago!
Finally, Tathagata extinguished the Karmic Fire and was free to deal with Wukong. Even with the combined power of three, they gained no advantage over him.
Wukong weaved left and right. His Jingu Bang was like a living Divine Dragon, as if it had eyes, parrying attacks from all directions. It changed form at will, blocking them in such a way that it truly seemed as if the staff was controlling Wukong, not the other way around!
The Ruyi Golden Cudgel, with its ability to change at will, that was the magic of this staff.
“Maitreya, your sense of enlightenment is the dullest; let me send you to Nirvana first!” Wukong shouted.
Maitreya, earmarked as the Future Buddha Ancestor and the successor to Tathagata, the sovereign of future governance, and yet Wukong had just said his enlightenment was too dull. This truly could snap one’s tongue with its audacity! Hearing Wukong make such a declaration, Maitreya could not help but become incensed. He spat Essence Blood onto his Sword of Wisdom and lifted it to the sky, transforming into a ray of golden light that darted towards Wukong.
This golden light split into nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine rays, evolving to their utmost, encompassing Wukong within them.
Yet Wukong did not dodge; a seven-colored flame arose around him. He formed a spell, shattering the golden light, and cried out, “Great Nirvana Technique!”
The three Buddhas gasped, “Great Nirvana Technique? The Divine Skill of the Seven-Colored Undying Phoenix, how do you possess such a technique?”
Wukong himself did not know why he possessed the Great Nirvana Technique; it simply came forth inexplicably. Since he intended to send them on the path of reincarnation through Nirvana, naturally, this fine technique was the best.
Seven-colored flames danced across the sky; Wukong’s body turned to void. With the Great Nirvana Technique, he had to destroy his enemies to achieve Nirvana himself; if he did not, he would eternally fall into oblivion.
As the seven-colored flames covered everything, even though Tathagata had cultivated the Karmic Fire, upon seeing these flames, he felt them unstoppable. Nonetheless, he cast a Sarira into the blaze, but the Sarira, sentient, merely quivered and then retreated, not daring to contaminate itself with the Seven-Colored Flames again.
This time Wukong’s target was Maitreya, thus the seven-colored flames encircled him before striking down!
“Ah—!!!”
Maitreya, burned by the seven-colored flames, let out a terrible scream. The fire seared to the bone, tempting one to immediately commit suicide rather than endure such agony!
Wukong then raised the Great Mountains and Rivers Seal, pressing it downward. Maitreya had no means of resistance, surrounded by the seven-colored flames. Burning Lamp and Tathagata dared not draw near, as even magical treasures would melt in the fire, let alone their somewhat lesser Golden Bodies!
Maitreya was actually burned alive, turned to flying ash, but Wukong captured his Primordial Spirit, stripped away his Three Flowers and Five Qi, and directly threw him into the Six Paths of Reincarnation, allowing him to be reborn and start anew.
“Future Buddha!” Tathagata and Burning Lamp couldn’t help but cry out in alarm.
Tathagata really wanted to slap his own face for the ridiculous idea he had once entertained, bringing such a calamitous star to the Western Heaven—indeed, inviting Buddha is easy, but sending him away is hard! Now that Wukong was resolved to achieve the true Victorious Fighting Buddha, no one could stop him. Tathagata felt regretful, wishing he’d just slapped him to death when he first met him, then he wouldn’t have ended up in such a tragic state today.
At this time, the three thousand Buddhas finally arrived, and seeing the destruction of the Great Thunderclap Monastery and the sight of Maitreya being burned to death, they were all shaken to their core.
“Victorious Fighting Buddha, what are you doing? Are you betraying Buddhism?”
“Victorious Fighting Buddha, you are truly untamable by nature; you still need to be thoroughly disciplined!”
“How dare you, Victorious Fighting Buddha, to destroy the Great Thunderclap Monastery and kill the Future Buddha, your sins are unforgivable! You will certainly be thrown into Abi Hell to endure the eighteen kinds of extreme torture!”
Several very influential Buddha Ancestors among the three thousand Buddhas stepped forward and loudly reprimanded Wukong.
Wukong shook his head and said, “I seek to become a true Buddha, not the false Buddhas like you! Immeasurable Light Buddha, you say you want to cast me into Abi Hell to endure the eighteen kinds of harsh punishment? Very well, let me send you into Abi Hell to endure the eighteen kinds of torture, so that you may understand what a true Buddha is!”
Immeasurable Light Buddha was furious, “You brazen monkey, such audacity!”
Wukong still smiled and said, “You preach about the Precept Against Anger, yet you have violated it. And you call yourself a Buddha Ancestor.”
Immeasurable Light Buddha, hearing this, became even more enraged, with smoke billowing from his seven orifices and the Three Corpse Gods raging like thunder.
Buddhist Sect preaches to abstain from anger and ignorance… To abstain again and again is to suppress one’s own nature, to repress one’s true heart.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva might be the closest to a true Buddha, having made the grand vow, “Until the Hells are empty, I will not become a Buddha.” Although this was a false promise to appease Tathagata, who called him mad, Ksitigarbha told him, “Without madness, there can be no Buddha.” This shows the profound nature of Buddha-hood.
At this moment, Wukong was quite composed, “Today, I will send you false Buddhas into reincarnation. In the next life, I will come and save you!”
Immeasurable Life Buddha shouted, “Audacious Victorious Fighting Buddha! Such bold words! You want to save all three thousand of us Buddhas? Truly formidable, truly fierce!”
Wukong did not speak but chanted from his mouth, “Buddhas! From this Western Direction. Across ten million billion Buddha Lands there is a world called Bliss. In that land, there is a Buddha. Named Victorious Fighting. Today I save three thousand false Buddhas.”
Upon hearing this, the three thousand Buddhas were greatly alarmed, and they all cried out in anger. For a moment, the vital energy created a spectacle that soared to the skies, magnificently obscuring the entire firmament.
“Buddhas! What say you. Why is that Buddha named Victorious Fighting? His Buddha’s Light is immeasurable, illuminating the countries of the Ten Directions without obstruction. His will is unmatched across the wastelands and strikes fear into the universe. Invincible in all his battles. Therefore, he is named Victorious Fighting!”
Wukong recited these lines of scripture, and slowly lifted his eyes, a flickering Buddha’s Light shining within them.
In this moment, he was draped in a gold-plated Kasaya, wearing a Buddhist Crown adorned with glazed tile, gold, silver, pearls, and agates. His entire body shimmered with Buddha’s Light, dignified and awe-inspiring, truly eliciting an urge in others to immediately prostrate in worship. Upon seeing this, the Buddhas had a thought, “This, this is a true Buddha indeed!”
On the spot, two hundred of the Buddhas stepped forward, bowing at Wukong’s feet, “Disciples wish to enter under the tutelage of Buddha Ancestor.”
These two hundred individuals were those who had not been long in the Buddhist Sect and possessed wisdom roots. Having heard Wukong’s sermon, they suddenly attained enlightenment and wished to enter under the Victorious Fighting Buddha’s lineage.
Tathagata’s face turned grim, as two hundred Buddhas were converted on the spot by Wukong, striking his face too severely!
“Sun Wukong, your insolence is too much! Form the array and confront him!”
With a loud shout from Tathagata, the remaining two thousand eight hundred Buddhas formed a great array to confront Wukong.
It was indeed, “Without cultivating the proper fruit, one cannot achieve the proper result. Forming evil connections leads to no good ones. Spending fourteen years to subdue the monkey mind, the life of Prabhutaratna hangs in the balance.”
Thus, the law of karma was truly fulfilled.
“Victorious Fighting Buddha!” the two hundred converted Buddhas put their palms together and chanted Wukong’s Buddhahood name.
