Hell Game: Starting from the Metropolis
Chapter 24: So You’re Really Brave, Huh?
“Finally finished.”
Liu Zheng let out a long breath.
“You finally woke up, kid.”
Bullhorse said in a sinister tone.
“What happened to me?”
He asked in confusion.
“Look at the time.”
Bullhorse pursed his lips.
Liu Zheng took out his phone, which showed the time.
11:30 p.m.
“At this hour already.”
He shuddered and glanced at the Sudoku magazine.
Something about it felt off.
“Don’t worry about it; it’s not a big deal. Even if you can’t finish it, I’ll kick you awake.”
Bullhorse said.
Kick awake? More like kick to death, I bet.
Liu Zheng chuckled.
“Hurry up and get your meal out. I’m starving.”
Bullhorse shouted.
Liu Zheng pulled out two staff meals from the cabinet: a bowl of ramen and a box of sushi.
The drinks were a bottle of raw cola and a bottle of sake.
After the offerings were made, he finished the remaining staff meal and drank the raw cola.
Liu Zheng opened his pants and glanced down, snorting.
Nothing was glowing; this Japanese food clearly wasn’t authentic.
He pocketed the sake, planning to give it to the plane tree.
That tree seemed to prefer alcohol over drinks.
He checked the time again—11:56 p.m.
Now it was a matter of whether the novelist was reliable or not.
Fortunately, the novelist proved trustworthy.
At exactly midnight, the ghostly hand reached in.
It placed down the delivery order and gave Liu Zheng the middle finger.
Then, without waiting for a response, it slipped back out.
“Hahaha!”
Bullhorse burst into earth-shattering laughter.
His two thick lips were lifted by the airflow.
“You, how did you piss it off?”
After a long while, Bullhorse stopped, gasping for breath.
“The last meal had a problem, so I scared it a bit.”
Liu Zheng shrugged his tentacle.
This little thing sure held grudges.
“Serves it right. It didn’t slap you twice, that’s already good, hahaha!”
Bullhorse continued laughing.
Liu Zheng ignored him and picked up the delivery order.
“Dish: One serving of Mermaid Lantern Fried Rice”
“Address: Building 4, Room 606, Green Osmanthus Garden, Crazy City”
“Time Limit: Three hours”
“Three hours?!”
Bullhorse leaned in with his big head.
“Your partner really went all out.”
He said with surprise.
“We’re just friends.”
Liu Zheng corrected seriously.
“That friend of yours is pretty loyal. My wife wouldn’t even give me this much.”
Bullhorse said with some jealousy.
“Is it expensive?”
Liu Zheng asked.
“Of course. You think who can afford Bloody Restaurant? Ordering proactively and customizing delivery time—this single order can keep you busy for a year.”
Bullhorse explained.
“That’s highway robbery.”
Liu Zheng said sincerely.
“How else would the boss make money?”
Bullhorse chuckled.
“This time it wasn’t me who brought it up.”
Liu Zheng eyed him warily.
Last time he mentioned the boss, one of them got scared half to death, and the other got beaten half to death.
Is Bullhorse brave again this time?
“Don’t mention that.”
Bullhorse waved his hoof.
“The boss loves it when people praise her for being cold-hearted, ruthless, and greedy.”
“Does she also like being hung on street lamps?”
Liu Zheng said with half-closed eyes.
“Never heard that. But I did hear she enjoys golden baths.”
Bullhorse said mysteriously.
“Golden? Bath?”
He only knew about milk baths and rose baths. What’s a golden bath?
“Just melting gold and pouring it into an iron bathtub to soak.”
Bullhorse explained.
“Awesome.”
Liu Zheng gave a thumbs-up.
That woman really isn’t human.
“Could’ve been the boss herself. Enough chit-chat, let’s go. Three hours isn’t a lot of time.”
Bullhorse urged.
The two left the passageway. Liu Zheng pulled out the map.
“Where’s the Black Market?”
He asked.
“Here.”
Bullhorse tapped the northwest corner of the map with his horn.
“Huh?”
Liu Zheng looked at the location and felt a little familiar.
After a few seconds of recollection, he took out the initial letter.
Flipping it over, sure enough, the Black Market’s location overlapped with one of the dots.
“The city hall actually marked the Black Market’s location. That’s unlike their style.”
Bullhorse leaned over and said.
“Really?”
Liu Zheng said casually.
Maybe the system marked it.
“What about the other three places?”
He pointed at the other dots.
“That one is the Chaos Club, that’s the landfill, and the one in the center is the city hall.”
Bullhorse explained one by one.
“What kind of place is the Chaos Club?”
Liu Zheng asked.
“Don’t know. Never had orders from there. You better pray you don’t get one either.” Newest update provided by novel_fіre.net
Bullhorse shook his head.
“Why?”
“From what the Black Market folks say, last time the city hall sent three squads in, none came out.”
Bullhorse said.
“Are the squads strong? How do they compare to you guys?”
Liu Zheng asked seriously.
“I was speaking in general terms, general terms—you get it?”
Bullhorse was stunned for a moment, then exploded in anger.
“Got it, got it, big shot, continue.”
He quickly reassured.
“Continue my ass, let’s go. If I weren’t counting on you to make money for me, I’d kick you to death with one hoof right now.”
Bullhorse said angrily.
This was Liu Zheng’s first time going out at night, and he clearly felt the difference.
Those secretive eyes watching from the shadows almost solidified into substance, like countless tongues licking over him.
He felt itchy all over.
“Feeling ticklish, huh?”
Bullhorse teased.
“Yeah, a bit.”
Liu Zheng admitted with a nod.
“Night is different from day. If I weren’t here, they’d have rushed out and torn you apart long ago.”
Bullhorse said.
“Who are ‘they’?”
He asked.
“Everything. Some like to eat people, some eat anything, and some have been eaten dry. Like this one!”
Bullhorse said, suddenly stomping hard on the ground.
The asphalt concrete cracked instantly, and dark green blood slowly seeped out from beneath.
Bullhorse kicked aside the rubble, then stuck his horn into the ground and pulled out a bizarre creature.
Its skin was pale, its body resembled a fat toad, and its head had a cluster of pink tentacles with no eyes.
“Good stuff.”
Bullhorse said happily.
He stuffed the creature into his mouth, biting off its head and half its body in one bite.
“Tastes like chicken, super crunchy.”
Bullhorse licked his lips in satisfaction.
This thing was rare, hardly ever coming out even on Bloody Night.
Having this bite made today’s trip worthwhile.
“Want some?”
Noticing Liu Zheng’s gaze, he hesitated before asking.
After all, he was counting on this guy to share the loot, couldn’t be stingy.
Liu Zheng looked at the pale corpse, and the system prompt flashed brightly above it.
“Name: Fresh Corpse of a Moon Beast Juvenile”
“Type: Item”
“Quality: Fine”
“Effect: Spirit +5, Perception +5, small chance to gain ‘Auditory Hallucination’ status, extremely small chance to awaken ‘Isolated Daughter’ bloodline.”
“Remark: The moon is watching you.”
“Can it be taken out of the dungeon: Yes”
“Warning: The ‘Isolated Daughter’ bloodline conflicts with the player’s current state. Forced awakening will cause uncontrollable consequences.”
Without the system warning, he wouldn’t have considered eating it.
After turning into a tentacle monster from eating a black goat’s eyeball, eating this would probably erase his human form entirely.
“Coward has no luck with food.”
Bullhorse mocked and then bobbed his head as he walked forward.
Liu Zheng followed closely behind.
Along their path, green bodily fluids dripped continuously.
Pairs of blood-red eyes emerged from the darkness, emitting excited roars.
