Chapter 1807 - 28: In the Pedestrian Street
CHAPTER 1807: CHAPTER 28: IN THE PEDESTRIAN STREET
Compared to the first time he was in the newspaper, this time, Robert Lee was very satisfied with his photo in the newspaper—whether it was the wrinkles that lifted when smiling, or the hint of fortitude between his brows, all were just right.
It could be hung on the old house’s wall, enjoying the offerings of pork and incense along with the elders.
"It’s just that this report came out a bit late."
Standing on the street, Robert Lee leaned against the tall counter of the milk tea shop, his expression indifferent yet his heart rejoicing, a somewhat inappropriate thought flickering through his mind—the report was published more than a month after the war ended, the wizarding world and Beta Town’s frenzy over discussing those magical beasts had subsided, which was a huge regret.
He seemed concerned that others could see the thought that had flashed through his mind.
The sheriff lifted his head, glancing around, happened to see the milk tea shop owner smiling warmly. His hand holding the newspaper became stiff, suddenly realizing something: "Um, sorry, looked at it for a bit too long... I flipped through it and indeed it’s the one I needed, much appreciated... how many copper coins?"
A newspaper costs five copper coins, which has been the old price for many years. But today’s newspaper was different, Robert was willing to pay a higher premium.
The milk tea shop owner smiled warmly at the sheriff who had just come back to his senses, waving his hand: "Just a small favor, not worth it, not worth it... You were busy on duty, that’s why you didn’t have time to get the newspaper..."
Despite saying so, when Robert gave him a silver coin, the milk tea shop owner happily accepted it. However, he insisted on offering a large cup of milk tea to express his respect for the great hero of Beta Town.
Just as the two middle-aged men were politely refusing each other.
From afar, the sharp screams came from the end of the pedestrian street:
"Grab that Black Wizard!"
"Don’t let it escape!!"
Seems to footnote this sentence, doors and windows all along the street slammed shut from afar, like dominoes, and like a fast-paced drum beat. The residents of Beta Town, who had just experienced the baptism of the black tide months ago, like frightened rabbits, hurried to close their doors and windows, while also pulling the pedestrians into their shops.
In an instant, the rhythm of closing doors and windows spread to the vicinity of the milk tea shop, the amulet shop, and Lin Guo’s small truck. Because there was a sheriff and two students from First University in front of the shop, the milk tea shop owner rarely mustered some courage and didn’t immediately drop the shutters of his shop.
Several wizards raised their gaze, looking towards the direction from which the screams came.
Without needing anyone to remind them, they quickly confirmed the location of the ’Black Wizard’. At the corner at the end of the pedestrian street, a thick black smoke with a diameter of about a meter swirled in the air like a slithering serpent, the front was pitch black, trailing thick black smoke behind, just gazing from afar made one feel the distortion and evil emanating from that black smoke.
The milk tea shop owner gasped, instinctively stepping back, somewhat regretting his rashness. He looked to the side, wanting to pull Lin Guo into the shop, but saw the little warlock standing on the back of a goat, holding the law book, his face full of excitement, appearing eager to gauge the Black Wizard’s level.
Next to Lin Guo, the senior who had been infatuated earlier quickly pulled out her law book, prepared the amulet, leaned her body against the wall, and pulled the eager Lin Guo down from the goat, dragging him behind her, wary of any possible sudden attack.
As the milk tea shop owner hesitated whether to rush out and pull Lin Guo’s ear to get him into the shop, an extremely sharp whistle abruptly sounded by his ear.
Robert Lee pulled out his copper whistle from his chest, put it into his mouth, blew it with all his might. Just like he did over a month ago patrolling the docks in the north district of Beta Town.
Blowing the alarm, notifying the school, the newly appointed pedestrian street sheriff threw aside the copper whistle, pulled out the black leather law book hanging from his waist, courageously facing that black smoke.
"Beta Town Post" praised him, the words still carrying the warmth from the milk tea cup wall, the large photo on the newspaper waving a brave gesture, encouraging its subject.
Although past the age of hot blood, Robert still knew what he should do in such moments.
The black smoke column rolled, roared, carried an extremely chilling, evil aura, sprinting forward along the street. In the previous second, it had just rounded a street corner, and in the next, it smashed through the glass of a shop, used the porch to evade the surrounding incoming spells.
After all, this town is outside Alpha Academy, not all the wizards have lost their courage, frequent interactions with students from the university behind the walls to give the town wizards sufficient pride.
"Heavenly descended ornate bird, descend and dispel magic!"
"Times are truly bright!"
"Sky’s manifest thoughts, the sun’s watch is here!"
"Chant to shock it!"
"Heaven creates high mountains, there it goes!"
"Heaven sends its net, this is its excellence!"
A large black bird descended from the sky, its sharp claws grabbing towards the flying serpent condensed from black smoke; the expelling light magnified grandly, dispelling the evil brought by that black smoke; a huge eyeball hovered in midair, watching the stealthy path of the black smoke; the spells to shock the mind spread everywhere; the shadows of illusory mountains blocked the middle of the street; a giant shadow of a heavenly net descended from above.
Spell after spell smashed towards that black smoke from all directions, colorful spell light splattered everywhere.
But regardless of whether it was the mountains or the heavenly net, they were shattered upon collision with the black smoke; neither the expelling light nor the shocking words seemed to have any impact on that shadow; as for the Heavenly descended ornate bird, it was easily twisted to pieces by the black serpent.
It continued to frantically escape on the street, all around were sounds of shattered glass, occasionally that black smoke would knock away obstructing wizards, adding a few long lingering screams to the street.
Robert Lee looked at the binding spell inscribed in his law book, murmuring the spell softly to himself.
Seeing that shadow easily defeat so many powerful spells, he knew the possibility of his binding spell stopping the opponent was extremely low.
Yet he still wanted to give it a try:
"Ge Zhitianxi, impose this scoundrel!"
Dozens of thick vines accompanied by the sheriff’s angry shout shattered the blue stone slab on the street, drilling out from the stone pillars along the street, the crevices in the street, forming a large azure net, aiming to cover that black smoke.
Piercing laughter came from within the black smoke, the smoke fiercely burned, seemingly transforming into a continuous black firework, swiftly burning a large hole through the net, soon the ’black serpent’ shot through fiercely, smashing Robert into the air.
"I’m a Dark Yellow Horse!"
"I Ma Hui Tui!"
Two yellow spell lights flew from the corners of the street opposite without dividing the order, landed on the shadow. The casters were none other than the always eager Lin Guo and the witch from Starry Sky Academy.
