1594  Goodbye, Grandma Li (Part VII)

It was an especially long night for everyone at the Jin family house. Except for the children, cats, and dogs, almost everyone acted as if they had been numbed. They just felt too exhausted these past few weeks—and drained.

Inside Jin Liwei''s bedroom which was now the couple''s bedroom, Iris stepped out of the ensuite bathroom to find her husband nowhere in sight.

The twins were already asleep on their crib bed along with Ice Cream. Popcorn should be staying with his favourite human cousin, Little Jun, in another room.

The German Shepherd guard dogs, Pudding and Chowder, raised their heads when they sensed her presence. Their tails wagged as a greeting before returning to sleep on cushions below the crib bed.

Iris checked on the twins before peeking at the balcony. As expected, her husband was there. She sighed before turning around to take two coats from the wardrobe. She wore one and then stepped out onto the balcony.

"Why did you come out?" Jin Liwei asked when he heard the balcony door open. "It''s so cold out tonight."

She glared at him before handing him a thick coat. He was wearing a coat but it was too thin for her liking.

    "Wear this," she told him.

He was about to protest but upon seeing the look in his wife''s eyes, he balked and obediently wore the thicker coat over the coat he was already wearing. He immediately felt warmer. In just a minute, he already began sweating under the double coats. He didn''t mention it to his wife, though. The two of them had different temperatures that they felt comfortable with. His was colder while hers was hotter.

"What did you and Eldest Brother Yehan talk about earlier?" Iris asked.

Jin Liwei didn''t reply right away.

She narrowed her eyes, sensing his hesitation. "Tell me."

He sighed. "Long Hui apparently contacted Jiang Ying Yue. Eldest Brother Yehan was the one who answered the call. Long Hui apparently wants to reconcile with Jiang Ying Yue. He wants to ask her to give him more visitation rights for Little Jun."

Silence descended between the husband and wife.

Both of them allowed their righteous anger to fill them up but not consume them. What they should focus on was supporting their godson in his recovery from trauma, and most importantly, protecting him so that something like the kidnapping would never happen to him ever again.

"Tomorrow," Jin Liwei broke the silence first.

    Iris glanced at him.

"The lawyer will be coming tomorrow morning," he said. "He''s going to read Grandma''s last will and testament."

She hugged his waist. His arms automatically wrapped around her. His chin rested on top of her head.

"I still can''t believe that my grandmother is now gone."

There were no tears in his eyes, but his voice was filled with undeniable grief.

    She hugged him tighter.

"I''m just glad," Jin Liwei said, sighing.

    "Glad?" she asked, confused.

"En. I''m glad that Grandma Li passed away without suffering too much. You saw her face when she passed away, right? She looked so peaceful, almost happy to go. Maybe she couldn''t wait to be with my grandfather and father."

"Maybe," she whispered. The two continued hugging each other. One gave comfort, and the other drew comfort.
