His Mistress is His Ex-Wife
Chapter 318: His Last Resort
CHAPTER 318: HIS LAST RESORT
Dominique had no choice but to comply with the gang leader’s demands. Even though there was reluctance in his eyes, he wrote the suicide note exactly as instructed,
When he finally set the pen down, the man snatched the paper from his grasp and scanned its contents. A wicked grin spread across his face.
Then, he burst into maniacal laughter, the sound echoing through the room.
"This is so nice. The words are written by you. Even if the police examine this, they will only believe you wrote it in your own conscience," he said, folding the paper before putting it in his pocket.
Meanwhile, Dominique was still racking his brain, trying to piece together the identity of the true mastermind behind it all.
For now, he had to play along to get an answer and reveal the real culprit.
’If I can’t catch the fish, I’ll make it swallow the hook itself,’ he thought grimly.
"You’re good at what you do," Dominique said, his tone steady but laced with bitterness. "Pinning the crime on me flawlessly. You’re meticulous. No wonder you’ve managed to evade the cops from catching you."
The man let out another low chuckle, clearly amused by the backhanded compliment. He even nodded, as if in approval.
"Haha! Of course. We’re the masters of deception," he boasted, pride swelling in his tone.
"Framing people like you is so easy. We could make anyone take the fall for what we’ve done, and no one would ever suspect the real culprits. That’s the beauty of it!"
He laughed again, louder this time, his voice echoing with twisted satisfaction.
On the other hand, Dominique narrowed his eyes and said, "Oh really. Have you forgotten about me? I know you are the real culprit. I even survived and managed to get my revenge against your former Boss."
The man stopped laughing, cocking his eyebrow. "Well... Your case is unexpected. We thought we’d killed everyone. Hahaha. But wait... do you really think you managed to avenge your family’s death? Hahaha!"
He looked at Dominique meaningfully.
"Of course! You haven’t heard the news of what happened to your former employer... Albert Williams?"
When Dominique mentioned Athena’s father, the man burst into another peal of laughter.
"Stop laughing!" he snapped at him, clenching his fists. He was so fed up with the man’s sarcastic laughter.
The man shook his head and clicked his tongue in response. "Haha. I feel sorry for you. Until now, you are still clueless."
Dominique frowned at his cryptic words. "Clueless about what?"
The man just sneered at him and didn’t elaborate on his last words.
"Just ask Albert Williams, in the afterlife. Haha!" he said mockingly.
Dominique tried his best to be more patient, continuing his conversation with the gang leader.
"Since I am going to die in your hands... Why don’t you spill the tea now? There is no need to hide it. Tell me what you know. Who is the person behind this?"
"You said... You are going to give me a reward before I die. Consider this as my reward... " he added, urging the man to reveal what he knew.
The man tapped his shoulder and said, "Are you sure you want to learn the truth? If you do... then you will never have peace even in your death. You will feel regretful."
Dominique became more confused because of his cryptic words. ’What is he trying to say here? I can’t understand.’
"Stop overthinking, Mr. Smith. Just do what you are told. If I were you, I wouldn’t try to complicate things. But don’t worry. I will be true to my word. Give me your wealth, and I will give your woman a peaceful death. We will not touch her,"
he reminded Dominique of their deal.
"You are committing a big mistake here. You should release her... If you feel indebted to your former Boss, Albert Williams, you must not hurt her!" Dominique continued to sway the leader of the gang by mentioning Albert once again.
The man sneered at him. "What are you talking about? Why should I spare her life for Albert’s sake? Do they have any connections at all?"
With his desire to protect Athena, Dominique had no choice but to reveal her real identity, hoping that the man would spare Athena’s life and release her.
"That woman... is Albert’s daughter!" he blurted without hesitation.
The man paused for a moment, trying to absorb Dominique’s words. After a few seconds, he burst into another peal of laughter.
"Are you so desperate to protect that woman? You start making up a ridiculous story. Haha. Albert’s daughter is dead. Have you forgotten? She died because you cheated on her. She was your first wife. You married her to get revenge on her father."
The gang leader narrowed his eyes, refusing to believe Dominique at first. He assumed it was just another desperate lie.
But Dominique was so determined to resort to this method. This was the only way he could think of to protect her.
"Athena is Sabrina Williams," Dominique declared firmly. "She didn’t die... she faked her death. She changed her face. That’s why she came back... to reclaim her father’s company from me. She is Sabrina Williams! If you don’t believe me, run a DNA test. That’ll prove it."
The gang leader fell silent, rubbing his chin as he processed the revelation. The more he thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. Her actions, her timing, everything lined up.
’What if he’s telling the truth?’ he wondered. ’Could Athena really be Sabrina Williams? I should inform Alfonso about this. What is he going to do once he learns that this woman is his niece? Will he change his mind and let her live?’
After a moment of contemplation, the gang leader turned to one of his underlings.
"Escort Mr. Smith upstairs and lock them up," he ordered. "I have something to take care of. Wait for my next instructions."
Dominique didn’t resist as he was dragged away, his eyes fixed on the gang leader’s retreating figure. He was still anxious. Was he convincing enough to protect Athena?
’Damn it... I’m out of options. I just hope revealing Athena’s identity was enough to buy her a chance to escape. If it means keeping her safe... I’ll gladly die in her place.’
