CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: ETHAN GRANT’S OBSESSION, ADRIAN JENNINGS TAKES ACTION

The next day at work, the supervisor Jane Young allocated two cases to Talia.

Jane Young personally handed the case folder to Talia Rhodes, speaking quickly, "This case is being appealed by the client. The previous attorney has resigned, so it’s now transferred to you. The appeal period is about to expire. It’s best if you can draft the appeal and submit the materials to the court today."

"There’s also this work injury case; you need to take the client for a injury assessment and physical ability evaluation. Check if you can take him sometime today or tomorrow. Tomorrow is Friday, so try not to push it to next week."

Talia took the case folder and nodded repeatedly, "Alright, alright."

Having cases to work on right after starting work, indeed this is Oakhaven’s top law firm.

Being busy is fine; having cases means commissions and the chance to accumulate experience.

Talia communicated with her client and briefly reviewed the evidence and materials. These two cases seem quite complex.

She arranged with the client who suffered the work injury to go for the assessment tomorrow, and today she needed to focus on submitting the appeal case to the court.

By the time Talia completed today’s planned work, the sky had already turned dark.

Her colleagues had long since headed home; she was the only one left in the large law firm.

She had been so busy that she hadn’t even had time for dinner.

Talia tidied up the documents on her desk, turned off the lights, locked up, and left the law office.

Her apartment is just a ten-minute walk from the law office, and Talia walks to and from work every day.

Adrian Jennings called.

"Talia, are you home yet?"

"Just finished work, I’m on my way home now."

Adrian Jennings asked, "Have you eaten yet?"

"Not yet, didn’t have time to eat. I’m planning to order some takeout when I get home."

Adrian teased, "Miss Rhodes, your takeout is already on its way."

"Hmm? Did you order takeout for me?"

Adrian’s voice carried a hint of amusement, "Delivering by your personal deliveryman Adrian Jennings."

Talia couldn’t help but laugh and asked him, "Are you delivering food to me?"

"Yes." Adrian’s voice was gentle and soothing, "It should arrive in about fifteen minutes at your complex’s entrance."

Fifteen minutes—that’s just right.

She would reach the entrance of the complex in about ten minutes.

Adrian really has a knack for timing.

In Talia’s impression, Adrian was not the type to joke around.

Calling himself a deliveryman was a striking contrast to the typically aloof Adrian she remembered.

Spending more time with him lately, she clearly felt Adrian was different from the cool, distant youth in her memories.

The mood was warmed by Adrian’s playful remark, prompting Talia to joke back, "Do you have surveillance on me? Mr. Jennings, violating privacy is against the law."

Adrian’s deep voice was incredibly alluring, "Is Lawyer Rhodes going to arrest me? At your disposal."

Especially those words, "at your disposal," Adrian deliberately slowed his tone, making it low and seductive, leaving Talia blushing.

"Ahem," Talia coughed strategically to hide her embarrassment and changed the subject, "You shouldn’t talk while driving; it’s distracting."

Adrian seemed to chuckle, "It’s the driver who’s driving."

Talia: "..."

Talia chatted with Adrian all the way to the entrance of her complex.

She had a sweet smile on her lips, her voice was joyful, and all her attention was focused on the phone call, not noticing a man standing under a tree by the entrance of the complex.

"Talia Rhodes."

Ethan Grant’s voice echoed ominously through the darkness.

Talia halted her steps abruptly.

She turned to look at the source of the voice; Ethan was standing quietly under the tree, staring at her.

His gaze was harsh.

"I need to hang up now," Talia said, ending the call and walked up to Ethan.

Talia stood a meter away from Ethan, her expression full of displeasure, "How did you find this place?"

"Huh." Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly, exuding a dangerous aura, "Avoiding me?"

Talia frowned, "Why would I avoid you? Haven’t I already told you I’m heading back to my hometown?"

Ethan stepped forward, closing the gap.

Talia instinctively stepped back two paces.

This action made Ethan’s displeasure deepen further.

"You said you wanted to go back home, but you didn’t tell me you weren’t planning on returning to Mirehaven once you did." Ethan pressed closer, emotions swirling in his eyes, "How long are you going to keep this up?"

Talia impatiently clicked her tongue, raising her gaze to meet Ethan’s furious eyes, calmly saying, "I’m not causing a scene. Ethan, we’re over. Please don’t bother me again in the future."

"Over?" Ethan sneered coldly, "You wish! This relationship only ends when I say it does."

"Ethan, what’s wrong with you? Aren’t you into Vivian Coleman? Go find her, why are you pestering me?"

Ethan raised an eyebrow, his expression softening slightly, "Jealous?"

Talia mentally rolled her eyes, can you not be so full of yourself?

Ethan said, "Vivian and I are honestly just friends, don’t make a fuss."

Talia let out a cold laugh.

"Just friends you can sleep with?"

Ethan’s expression cracked, his eyes showing a hint of guilt, "What are you talking about?"

"You’ve been with Vivian more than once since she returned home, right?" Talia taunted, "You think I don’t know? I simply don’t care anymore."

No longer care.

Hearing her say that, Ethan felt a sharp sting in his heart.

His heart tightened, adopting a hurt demeanor, "You don’t care anymore?"

"But I care." Ethan’s expression was somber, switching to a tender tone, "You’ve been all I can think about, I’ve missed you. Let’s reconcile, Talia."

Talia’s eyes were filled with disdain.

Was Ethan having a split personality?

Just moments ago, he was angrily confronting her, and now he was acting all pitiful.

Talia eyed him coldly, "Not a chance."

"Why!" Ethan suddenly shouted, emotionally losing control.

Passersby cast odd glances their way.

Talia felt embarrassed.

"Can you not shout at the entrance of the complex? You might not mind but I do."

Ethan grabbed Talia’s wrist, getting unusually worked up, "Talia, come back with me!"

"Let go!" Talia struggled.

But Ethan’s grip was too strong for her to break free.

Talia narrowed her eyes, warning, "If you don’t let go, I won’t be polite."

She prepared to show Ethan what she could do.

"I won’t!"

Ethan clutched Talia tightly with one hand while the other tried to pull her closer to forcefully kiss her.

"Talia, I’ve missed you." Ethan leaned in with his lips approaching.

Talia was ready to fight back.

"Let her go!" a voice angrily shouted.

Ethan turned around, pausing slightly upon seeing the powerful presence of the man before him, "Who are you?"
