CHAPTER 47: CHAPTER 47: ADRIAN THE WIFE-DOTING MANIAC

Angela Coleman was on edge all day, staying in Talia Rhodes’ office the entire time.

She used every kind of soft and sweet talk she could think of, but Talia Rhodes wouldn’t relax her stance on dropping the case.

Angela Coleman was just short of kneeling down to beg her.

"Lawyer Rhodes, please be magnanimous and forgive me, just treat me like a fart and let me go, I beg you, if I’m convicted and my lawyer’s license is revoked my life will be over!"

"Lawyer Rhodes, I beg you to withdraw the lawsuit, I’m willing to be your servant!"

Talia looked at her coldly, "No need."

"Miss Coleman, there are successful people in all fields, having a lawyer’s license revoked is nothing, if you can’t make it in this field, just switch to another," Talia patted Angela Coleman on the shoulder, "Don’t give up, I’m rooting for you!"

...

After work.

Talia followed her colleagues out of the law firm.

Suddenly, the female colleague beside Talia tugged at her sleeve, "Wow! Look over there, there’s an incredibly handsome guy!"

The other colleagues also looked over quietly discussing something.

Talia followed her colleague’s gaze and suddenly stopped.

It was Adrian Jennings.

He was tall and handsome, broad-shouldered and long-legged, making clothes look even better than on a model, especially the simple black Armani coat.

Adrian Jennings was leaning against the car, making a phone call.

It was deep autumn, and it got dark early, the street lights were all on.

From this angle, Talia could clearly see his lean side profile and prominent nose, the warm yellow light softened his sharp brow and eyes.

As if they had telepathy, just as Talia looked over, Adrian Jennings turned his head to look back.

Their gazes met in the air, Adrian Jennings hung up the phone and walked towards her.

The female colleague beside her instantly got excited.

"Ahhh, he’s coming over."

"What should I do, I’m so nervous, I should’ve worn some makeup today, seeing a handsome guy with a bare face, I’m too embarrassed to chat him up, what a pity."

"It’s okay, even with makeup you probably couldn’t chat him up, this kind of handsome guy is out of our league."

Within a few words, Adrian Jennings was in front of Talia.

Talia could clearly hear the sound of several colleagues around gasping.

"There’s a gathering over at Ryan Quinn’s place, Winter Donovan and Yvonne Coleman are there too, I’ve come to pick you up," Adrian Jennings’ voice was deep and sexy, even more captivating when gentle.

Colleagues shot surprised glances.

Talia pressed her lips together, looked up, and smiled, introducing to her colleague, "This is my fiancé."

A few colleagues instantly widened their eyes, all in disbelief.

Rumor had it that Talia Rhodes’ Rolls-Royce driving "wealthy patron" was an oily, ugly old man.

Yet the man in front of them was nearly 1.9 meters tall, with looks and aura beyond compare, even better than TV male stars.

At this moment, everyone reached a consensus: rumors are just rumors, not to be believed.

Colleagues all praised Adrian Jennings, offering him and Talia their blessings.

...

In the private booth.

Talia started talking to Adrian Jennings about the law firm matters.

"Do you know why they were so shocked when they saw you earlier?" Talia said, "Some colleagues saw me getting off your car, spread rumors that I’m kept by a rich man, and said my benefactor was an ugly, greasy old man."

Adrian Jennings’ gaze turned cold and intense, "Rumors?"

"Yeah." Talia was unfazed, "But I’ve already resolved it, don’t worry."

"What the heck? Someone actually dared to spread rumors about you being kept by an old man?" Ryan Quinn exclaimed, "Sis, if you were being bullied, why didn’t you tell your brothers here?"

Adrian Jennings shot him a chilly glance, "Need to tell you?"

Yvonne Coleman pinched Ryan Quinn, "Talia is Adrian’s fiancée, they’re about to get engaged, why are you singing and dancing here, showing off?"

"Ouch, ancestor, don’t pinch me." Gigi Quinn laughed jokingly, "I just can’t stand seeing Talia Sis being bullied, after all, we’re friends in the same circle, right?"

Adrian Jennings looked at Talia, his eyes flashed with concern, "Talia, earlier when you were out discussing a case, you were harassed, then rumored again at the firm, I feel as a fiancé I’ve truly failed, didn’t protect you well..."

Talia shook her head, "That’s not how the saying goes, Adrian, you can’t follow me 24/7."

"Sis, let me tell you, you’re his precious darling, he can’t stand seeing you bullied." Ryan Quinn chimed in again, "You have no idea how he half-killed that someone for you back then..."

Before he finished, Adrian Jennings suddenly interrupted him, "Ryan!"

Seeing his annoyed expression, Ryan Quinn paused and quickly changed the subject: "It’s okay, it’s okay."

Talia looked as if she wouldn’t rest till she knew, "Who did Adrian half-kill back then?"

Adrian Jennings took a sip of wine, speaking nonchalantly, "No one, he’s talking nonsense."

Talia’s clear, watery eyes looked at him, pretending to be fierce, "Adrian, you remain silent, I want to hear Ryan’s story."

Adrian Jennings said no more.

Ryan Quinn glanced at Talia Rhodes and then at Adrian Jennings, teasing with a smile: "Wow, Adrian is actually under his wife’s control."

Andrew Donovan joked, "What do you know? Being under his wife’s control means loving the wife, not fearing her."

Winter Donovan took a sip of wine, her voice soft and laughing, "Yes, Adrian is a wife-loving maniac."

Ryan Quinn continued: "Talia Sis, do you know those two old creeps who harassed you, their company got investigated? Found something, now those two old creeps are suspected of economic crimes and got locked up; their company was crippled by Adrian, how does that feel? Vengeful, isn’t it?"

Talia turned to look at the man beside her.

Adrian Jennings’ face showed no emotion, exuding a cold aura.

"I said I would make them pay."

Talia used a skewer to pick up a piece of cantaloupe from the fruit plate in front of her and started eating, "Serves them right."

Ryan chimed in, "Indeed."

Finishing a piece of cantaloupe, Talia realized she’d unknowingly been led astray.

She spoke seriously, "Ryan, you still haven’t told me, who did Adrian half-kill back then?"

Ryan glanced again at Adrian Jennings, seeing he didn’t say anything, then spoke: "Wasn’t his name Dylan Langley or something?"

Talia remembered the person, fairly vividly.

In her freshman year, she had a deskmate named Wendy Hollis, Talia had a particularly good relationship with her. During the second term of freshman year, there were some changes in Wendy Hollis’s family, transferring her from their posh school to a regular high school.

When her good friend transferred, Talia was quite reluctant.

The regular high school released later than Talia’s school, right after Wendy Hollis transferred, Talia would often go wait outside Wendy’s school to go shopping together.

Dylan Langley was the school bully of Wendy’s school, taking advantage of his family’s bit of wealth, he gathered a group of minions, engaging in non-study activities, if not dating, then bullying classmates.

Dylan Langley’s target was initially Wendy Hollis, he wanted her to date him early.

That day, he chased her to the school gate, and accidentally ran into Talia.
