CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56: I HEARD YOUR ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY WAS CANCELED?
When he came to his senses, the small table was already filled.
Baby bok choy, beef, fragrant white rice, and a bowl of soup.
"Made so much." Adrian Jennings smiled gently, "What kind of soup is this?"
"Yam and old hen soup."
Talia Rhodes picked up the chicken soup, scooped a spoonful, blew on it, and held it to Adrian Jennings’ mouth, "Try it."
Adrian Jennings smiled and lowered his eyes, but suddenly his smile paused.
"What happened to your hand?"
Talia Rhodes had a blister on her right index finger.
Talia wanted to hide it but it was too late, she had to admit, "Just... accidentally got burned in the kitchen, it’s nothing, just a blister."
Adrian Jennings’ eyes turned red, "Does it hurt?"
Talia shook her head, "It doesn’t hurt."
Adrian Jennings drank the chicken soup, gently grasped Talia’s wrist, and softly blew on her injured spot.
After a few blows, Adrian looked at Talia, with long eyes full of pity: "Liar, burns always hurt."
Talia’s eyes turned red, "It really doesn’t hurt, compared to the injuries you’ve had, this is nothing."
Adrian reached out and gently pinched her cheek, "If Talia gets hurt, I feel pain, even if it’s a small injury."
Talia lightly pressed her lips together, her lashes fluttering, unconsciously being coquettish, "Brother Adrian..."
Her soft and sweet voice, Adrian Jennings couldn’t resist.
He pulled her closer, kissed her smooth forehead, her rosy cheeks, and her soft lips.
Talia’s ear burns, her heart sweet as if soaked in honey.
Moments later, she pushed against Adrian Jennings’s chest and moved away from him, "Brother Adrian, eat first before it gets cold."
Adrian Jennings drawled, raising the corner of his eye slightly, "Okay, kiss me after eating?"
Talia hummed lightly, lowered her eyes without speaking, ignoring his teasing.
Adrian Jennings took a bite of the fried baby bok choy.
Talia nervously watched him, "How is it? Is the taste okay?"
Adrian Jennings had a full smile, teasing her, "Delicious, they say to capture a person’s heart, capture their stomach first, is that what Talia is trying to do?"
Talia puffed her cheeks, pretending to glare at him, "Can’t capture your heart without capturing your stomach?"
Adrian Jennings laughed, pinching her face again, "How could that be? You just stand there and win without doing anything."
Talia "hmphed" lightly, her eyes filled with joy.
Adrian Jennings ate all of Talia’s prepared food neatly and drank every drop of the soup.
After the meal, he rested against the headboard.
Talia carefully packed the dishes, ready to wash them.
Adrian Jennings said, "Let the nurse or maid do it."
Talia shook her head, "It’s okay, not a hassle."
Adrian Jennings’ voice was low, with a hint of undetectable affection, "When did you learn to cook?"
His Talia was a pampered lady who didn’t touch spring water with her ten fingers.
Cooking and washing dishes, how could it be her turn?
Talia answered, "Just in the past couple of days."
Adrian Jennings wanted to ask more, but suddenly the hospital room door was pushed open and a group of people walked in.
Melinda Lynch walked at the front, carrying food containers, "Son, mom brought you food."
Behind her were Ryan Quinn, Yvonne Coleman, and a nurse.
Melinda Lynch glanced at Talia, smiling, "Talia is here too, have you eaten? Want to join us? I brought a lot of food, cooked by the auntie at home."
Talia smiled and declined, "No auntie, I’ve already eaten."
Adrian Jennings’ voice followed, "I’ve also just eaten."
Melinda Lynch paused, noticing Talia holding a thermal container, "Talia, did you bring food for Adrian?"
"Yes."
Melinda looked at Adrian Jennings, "Are you full? Do you want some more? I brought all your favorite foods."
Adrian Jennings said, "No need, Talia cooked for me, it really suits my taste, I ate it all."
Upon hearing this, Melinda Lynch smiled like an aunt indulging, "Okay, if you’ve eaten then you don’t need more."
Ryan Quinn had a mischievous expression, "Oh? Talia cooked with her own hands?"
He put down the fruit basket and supplements, looked at Adrian Jennings teasingly, "You’re really lucky."
Adrian Jennings replied to him, "Yes, the joy single dogs don’t experience."
Ryan’s smile froze, "Fine, I’ll find a girlfriend someday and show off love in front of you until you’re sick of it."
Yvonne Coleman looked surprised, eyes wide, "Talia, you cook too?"
Talia smiled lightly, "Just learned."
"Amazing, love is truly miraculous."
Yvonne circled Talia in disbelief.
"I remember in college once I went to your apartment to hang out, you fried me an egg, I bit into it and it was crunchy. You said eggshells could supplement calcium, didn’t expect you’ve learned to cook now."
Talia awkwardly touched her nose, "Eggshells can indeed supplement calcium."
Yvonne laughed angrily, "Fine, fine, making your fiancé a feast and giving your girlfriend an egg with shells, right?"
Talia’s eyes curved in amusement, "Next time I’ll cook you a feast too."
Yvonne grinned, "I’ll take that seriously then."
Ryan Quinn eyed her, "Talia’s cooking is a couple’s sentiment, why are you joining in?"
Yvonne loftily raised her chin, "Mind your own business."
A round of jokes followed, the atmosphere lively.
Melinda Lynch laughed for a while, glanced at the thermal container in Talia’s hand, "Talia, are you taking it for a wash?"
"Yes, yes." Talia responded.
"Give it to the nurse then." Saying that, Melinda gestured to the nurse nearby.
The nurse quickly walked over to take the thermal container, "Miss Rhodes, I’ll take care of it."
Talia handed over the container to the nurse.
Melinda didn’t stay long, hastily left after taking a call.
Talia had some work to handle in the afternoon, stayed with Adrian Jennings briefly before leaving.
As she walked out of the hospital, she met someone she didn’t want to see.
Ethan Grant walked over, "Talia, finally seeing you, haven’t you been home these past few days?"
The "home" he mentioned was the Brighton Court apartment.
Currently, Ethan knew only that address.
Talia looked at him warily, "What are you doing here?"
Ethan’s eyes shone with excitement, staring at Talia Rhodes, "Heard your engagement banquet was canceled?"
Talia replied irritably, "How is that any of your business? Move aside!"
Ethan blocked her path, "Talia, do you believe in destiny? Your engagement banquet was sabotaged, showing heaven disagreed with your marriage."
"Hmph." Talia’s face turned cold, "This is the 21st century, how come your feudal superstitions haven’t been eliminated?"
Ethan was not angry, happier than anyone that the engagement banquet was canceled.
Besides, Adrian Jennings was stabbed, almost died.
Even heaven was helping him!
His eyes filled with a smile, "Talia, you know who the murderer was, right? She’s a crazed fan of Adrian Jennings, pursued him for ten years, many saw her at the engagement banquet, this is spreading in Oakhaven now."
"Tell me, how could Adrian Jennings be indifferent to a woman who chased him so passionately for ten years?"
