CHAPTER 794: ALL AT THE MENTION OF A NAME

Soon, Arwen returned with the items she’d left to pick up before going ahead to meticulously write down everything from her dream she could recall.

Once she was done, Alex picked it up and read through, noting by the end of the text just how bizarre the dream was.

Being chased by a tune, just what could be the reason for this, and most importantly, where did the music come from?

"So... What do you think?" Arwen asked after several minutes of silence.

Jolted from his thoughts, Alex replied. "I will pay a visit to the lower district."

"Okay... Wait, just you?"

"Yes." Alex nodded in response.

"What about me?"

"You will head over to the library and see if you can dig up anything about the music. We have no idea what we are facing and moving blind is the worst thing we can do right now."

Seeing as Arwen was displeased, Alex swiftly added. "Don’t worry, I’m not benching you, I’m delegating duties. So don’t overthink things."

"Hah, fine," Arwen muttered in a disgruntled tone.

"Good," Alex said as he got to his feet. "We are still connected via Mindscape so make sure to keep me updated on anything you find."

"Understood." Arwen drawled out a response, earning a chuckle from Alex.

Soon, Alex was out the door and Arwen was left no choice but to do as he’d asked.

But first, some breakfast, for her and for Douglas.

As for Alex... let him starve.

After she’d filled her stomach and that of Douglas, Arwen, after dressing up and putting on her satchel, took out some money from the money box Alex kept under his bed after which she took a carriage to the library in the upper districts.

Even though there was a library in the middle districts, it was quite poor in content when compared with its counterpart in the upper districts.

This was naturally a deliberate move from those in the upper districts.

There was no way they were about to allow lower-classmen to have the same access to things as they did.

If they allowed such a thing, then what would be the difference between the upper and the middle class?

In any case, the trip was uneventful, causing Arwen to sleep off midway to her destination.

Upon the carriage’s arrival at the upper district’s library which was located in the fifth district, the coachman knocked on the carriage, waking Arwen from her slumber.

As a yawn escaped her lips, she stretched and, after a second knock was heard, she stepped out of the carriage and paid the coachman his fare before making her way up the stairs leading into the library, only to be stopped by the officers on duty.

"Identification." One of them said while eyeing her.

Arwen managed a smile. "Good day, gentlemen."

Then, she reached into her satchel and took out a parchment.

The officer took it out and looked through its contents before handing it back.

"10 skols."

Arwen scoffed. "Why don’t you just rob me?"

"10 skols or get out."

"This isn’t fair. Last time I was here, it cost 5."

"Times have changed. Either keep or get out."

"This is ridiculous."

"Are you paying or not?" The officer asked, in a hurry to end the conversation.

Cursing, Arwen kept the paper aside and took out the ten skols, paper money with the unit ten written at the corners and the symbol of the TruthSeekers, a hexagram with an open book at its center and an eye at the center of the open book, drawn at the center.

The officer swiftly pocketed the money, affirming Arwen’s guess that the outrageous amount the officer had said was not just the library entry fee but also his fee to let her in.

"Now was that so hard?" The officer said in a mocking tone before adding. "You may go in."

Snorting derisively, Arwen brushed past him with the guard adding just as she got to the library doors.

"And don’t forget. You aren’t allowed to take any books off the premises. Doing so is a punishable offense."

"Of course," Arwen said as she turned back to regard the scummy bastard, an exaggerated smile plastered on her lips.

Then, she shifted her attention back to the doors and pushed them open, quickly finding herself in what could only be described as a work of art.

Because Scholastica was the owner of Sklaviunt, it was understandable that they would pay meticulous attention to buildings meant for learning and sharing knowledge.

The building was forged with metal and stone, ensuring its sturdiness, while the shelves were not only made of the strongest wood they could find, but were also covered with a sheet of glass, and the books were covered in different layers of protection, each layer signifying the importance of the book.

Having been here once, Arwen didn’t spend too much time admiring the architecture, since she’d already done enough of that on her last visit, and so, she swiftly made her way to the mysticism section, which had a librarian seated at its entrance to ensure not just anyone entered.

The librarian, whose name was Kaeria, was a redhead in her late thirties.

She wore a brown himation and spotted a pair of round rimmed glasses.

Initially, she was buried in a book, reading away with such abandon, one might think it easy to get past her without being noticed.

That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

"Where do you think you are going, Arwen?" Kaeria asked casually as she turned a page in the book she was reading.

Arwen asked back in slight astonishment. "How do you manage to do that?"

"I’ve been a librarian for ten years, do not underestimate me," Kaeria replied as she raised her head to regard Arwen. "Now then, I ask again; where do you think you are going?"

Coughing awkwardly, Arwen replied. "Sir Smith sent me."

"He did?" Kaeria’s previously flat expression took a hundred and eighty-degree turn, as her eyes lit up and her demeanor brightened, all in an instant.

All at the mention of a name.
