HxH : Saiki Kusuo’s Ordinary Days in the Zoldyck Family
Chapter 32 32: Trip to the World Tree (4)
After the explosion, something strange happened—his wristband suddenly started sucking his power in. It was swallowing the chaos? Impossible!
The wristband acted like a bottomless pit, eating up his out-of-control powers. Slowly, the energy inside him started to calm down, getting weak enough for him to control again.
He took a step. Nothing happened. No explosion. The ground wasn't wrecked. Everything was fine.
He checked the wristband again. A small, fingernail-sized piece of it looked like it had lit up—like something had just activated.
It all made sense now. This thing feeds off energy to activate. It draws out any power it touches and keeps eating it nonstop. It must be a greedy, dangerous thing.
But it was also kind of amazing. It could absorb extra powers, and once the power dropped low enough, it seemed his ability would start protecting itself and stop being eaten.
As long as he had this, he could move around freely—at least until the thing was fully activated.
And when that day came, maybe he could just use his recovery power to reset it and start over. A perfect fix.
Still, he needed more testing to fully understand how the wristband worked.
Saiki Kusuo didn't let his guard down. He was about to teleport home, but the three-minute cooldown on his teleport power forced him to wait.
So nostalgic—three minutes of peace. It really had been a long time since he could stand around and feel this relaxed. How long had it been since he last felt this free?
After waiting for three minutes, Saiki Kusuo was about to head home when he suddenly remembered those two who had reached out to him with their powers, and then there was Kite. There was a 1% chance that the three of them were worried about him—Kite alone probably made up 99% of that 1%.
It didn't feel right to let them worry.
But still... why should he be the one to go meet them?
Saiki Kusuo struggled with the thought for a while and finally decided: Yare yare. The wrist device still needed a few days of observation. Going home now might not be safe. Oh, right—he should ask for leave from home, too.
Chrollo, Hisoka, and Kite had returned to the city and hadn't left yet. Maybe they were still watching to see if the other two had managed to track Saiki Kusuo down.
Also, they still didn't know how to divide the treasure. Kite believed Ging left it there as a gift for Saiki Kusuo and wasn't okay with the other two splitting it up.
"I'll have a cappuccino," Chrollo said.
"I'll take a cocktail, sweetie," Hisoka said, blowing a kiss at the bartender.
[Are these two really on the same side?] Kite still had doubts. [They don't even look like they're part of the same team.]
[Yare yare. I'll take a coffee too. Do you have coffee jelly? No? Alright, thanks.
Of course they didn't. Why did no one in this world understand how amazing coffee jelly was?]
The familiar voice made everyone turn their heads.
Saiki Kusuo sighed. He had purposely teleported nearby, and just by listening to their thoughts, he knew these three were genuinely worried about him. How could he ignore that?
[Thanks for worrying. The wristband's stable now.]
He casually sat at the table. Chrollo was next to him, Hisoka across from him, and Kite, as usual, stayed standing.
"Dr. Saiki Kusuo, I'm so glad you're okay!" Kite said happily.
[That's too formal. Can you drop the title? I'm just a normal fifteen-year-old.]
A normal person, huh…
No one there actually believed that word could describe Saiki Kusuo.
Now that they knew he was safe, everyone turned their attention to the treasure.
"So... what should we do with it?" Chrollo asked. "Seems like someone gave this to you, but I saw a few things I liked. Can I take one?"
Just saw it and decided to take it—what a natural thief.
Take those two books if you want.
Saiki Kusuo didn't even think about it. Chrollo was clearly eyeing the books, so whatever, just let him have them.
"Pfft, you really get me. Then I'll take them." Chrollo grabbed the two books. The other stuff had value too, but not enough to be worth the hassle of carrying while traveling alone.
"I don't mind. The most valuable thing's already mine~"
Hisoka propped up his chin and stared at Chrollo, making Chrollo shiver.
"I won't take a single thing. Master left this for you... for you," Kite said.
Then I'll take it all.
Saiki Kusuo had no shame. Just selling this stuff could bring in billions. The Zoldyck family even had "treasure rooms" that acted as playrooms for kids, so he could totally repurpose it for the house.
"Can I get a way to contact you?" Chrollo asked Saiki Kusuo.
Contact? He didn't have anything like that. Saiki Kusuo's face stayed blank. He only had internal family lines, which meant only relatives or a few butlers could reach him.
"Zoldyck family's personal numbers aren't easy to get~"
Hisoka suddenly bragged, waving his phone. Clearly, he had someone's personal line.
He's not wrong, but I can give you this.
Saiki Kusuo reached into his pocket. Now that he was technically a scientist, he often carried random valuable items around. He pulled out a gold card—it was basically the price of a Zoldyck business card.
Equivalent exchange.
He handed over a Zoldyck-issued 30% discount phone card. When Hisoka got his first one, it was only 20% off. He only got the 30% later.
Each percent off was worth serious money. Every Zoldyck family member only got a limited number to give out, and only to high-value contacts.
Call this number, and a butler will reach out to me.
Chrollo studied the card. Was he being brushed off? Probably not. But at least now he knew for sure which family Saiki came from. No wonder all his searches led nowhere—Saiki wasn't a surname, it was part of his first name. Like how "Chrollo" goes with "Lucilfer"? So his full name was Saiki Kusuo Zoldyck…
Who names their kid like that? That's such a weird name.
Saiki Kusuo: Chrollo, you know I can hear thoughts, right? You do know that, right?
Chrollo: I'm sorry, but seriously, it is weird—if you heard that...
Saiki Kusuo: That fake, half-hearted apology is worse than saying nothing at all.
Saiki Kusuo felt free now. But up next... it was going to be hell for Chrollo.
Hisoka still hadn't taken his eyes off him.
"Well then, Saiki. If fate allows, let's meet again." Chrollo opened his book, and in the blink of an eye, he swapped places with someone else. A woman was now sitting where he had been, and the coffee on the table was left unpaid.
Chrollo's ability! Hisoka excitedly asked the woman where she had been just now, but suddenly realized Saiki Kusuo was also gone—along with the treasure that had been on the table. Kite, seeing this, quietly got up and left. He hadn't ordered anything, came empty-handed, and left empty-handed.
Only Hisoka was left to pay for three drinks.
