CHAPTER 105: WU YOU’AI’S MENTOR CHU ZHUOHUA

Perhaps knowing Jing Shu’s worries, Yang Yang, who had benefited, reassured her, "Don’t worry, Zhang Qiang definitely knows far more than the others. Those sewer rats won’t be able to hide for much longer." No wonder Niu likes this family; they’re so sensible.

So, how should they arrange things for Wu You’ai? Bringing her back as things stood would probably worry Jing Shu’s family to death, not to mention it would be a shock for the elderly. It might be better to wait until Wu You’ai had mostly recovered before she returned.

On the table, Jing Shu saw Wu You’ai’s phone, which had been set to airplane mode. Once it reconnected to the data network, the phone began to BEEP incessantly, displaying 99 missed calls, all from someone labeled ’Mentor’.

The family had no idea that Wu You’ai had been kidnapped. Third Aunt was still cooking in the Ai Family Supermarket. If it weren’t for Wang Dazhao, even she wouldn’t have known Wu You’ai had been kidnapped.

Jing Shu’s eyes lit up when she saw the calls from ’Mentor’. Is this mentor, whom Wu You’ai mentions every day, reliable? Maybe she should stay with them for a few days first.

Jing Shu dialed the number. The call was answered the moment it started ringing, a low, hoarse voice coming through, "Who is this?"

Jing Shu: "???"

This left Jing Shu completely baffled. If this person was Wu You’ai’s mentor and saw that Wu You’ai had finally returned the call, shouldn’t they be asking where she was, or why she hadn’t answered the phone? Could it be that this mentor dialed 99 times without saving Wu You’ai’s number?

Or maybe her mentor had already guessed that Wu You’ai had been kidnapped.

While Jing Shu was still stunned, the voice on the other end continued, "Where is Wu You’ai now? If you have an agenda, state it outright, but I need to make sure the person is alive."

Jing Shu: "..."

"You’re Wu You’ai’s mentor, right?" Jing Shu had to confirm the identity first.

"You captured Wu You’ai, but not to get to me? You don’t know who I am?" The question came from the other side of the line.

Does he think the whole world should know him, as if he’s some kind of god? Jing Shu finally lost her patience. Birds of a feather flock together; Wu You’ai’s mentor, like her, is a bit off. "Are you Wu You’ai’s mentor or not? If you’re not, I’m hanging up."

A deep voice then came from the other end, "Yes, I am. Where is Wu You’ai? Where is she? What do you want?"

If only he’d said that earlier, it would have saved us this utterly nonsensical conversation. There’s a communication barrier here, and Wu You’ai’s mentor might have a paranoid delusion that ’there are always villains plotting against me’.

Jing Shu, squinting her eyes, said, "Wu You’ai was injured, but she’s okay now. I’m her cousin. I saw your many missed calls and dialed you back to put your mind at ease."

"Where is she?"

"In the office building next to the Ai Family Supermarket."

"Wait there. I will arrive within ten minutes."

BEEP BEEP... The call ended abruptly. Well, that figures; not like your average person. He’d hung up before she had finished talking.

While waiting, Jing Shu told Mr. and Mrs. Jing to go back to the villa first. She didn’t dare let them come up; she feared they wouldn’t be able to handle such a graphic, real-life crime scene.

"Don’t worry, my cousin is fine. It was just a false alarm; as it turns out, she wasn’t captured. She’s currently with her mentor, working on something important. I’ll have her video call you once they’re done."

"You all head back to the villa first. It’s not safe for Grandma and Grandpa at the villa either. I’m with Officer Yang Yang; I’m very safe, and he will be responsible for getting me back home."

Alan, the anesthetist, also left. He strutted away, saying, "Just give the pork leg directly to Yang Yang for him to bring to me, and call me next time if needed. I’m somewhat of a Doctor, after all."

Officer Yang Yang drew out his long needle and started a new round of interrogation on Zhang Qiang. After Jing Shu had arranged matters with her family, she received word that Wu You’ai’s mentor had arrived at the office building. She checked the time: nine minutes and forty-five seconds had passed since his call. Excellent timing! she thought. As it turned out, however, he then got lost within the building, delaying their meeting by a good twenty minutes.

With location sharing, Jing Shu found Wu You’ai’s mentor on the fifth floor, along with the two big men behind him wearing helpless expressions. Apparently, this wasn’t the first time.

Jing Shu had originally thought that Wu You’ai’s mentor, being a professor-level figure, would be about fifty or sixty years old. Who could have imagined he would be so young? His long, straight black hair and all-black attire seemed out of sync with modern times, and his slanted eyes gave off an air of indifference. Even after getting himself lost, he maintained a proud demeanor. "Lead the way!"

Jing Shu suddenly began to doubt whether Wu You’ai had chosen to work under this man for his looks or his scholarship. She felt it was the former.

Once they arrived at the location and saw the Armed Police in uniform, Wu You’ai’s mentor and the two big men finally relaxed their vigilance and even started chatting with them. That’s when Jing Shu learned they were also part of the police force, and Wu You’ai’s mentor was named Chu Zhuohua.

"How did this injury happen?"

Jing Shu recounted the entire ordeal: learning that Wu You’ai had been captured, the subsequent rescue mission where they discovered everyone else brutally tortured to death with Wu You’ai as the sole survivor, and how she had treated Wu You’ai’s wounds.

"So, you’re Jing Shu, the one Wu You’ai always talks about, the one who doesn’t live by the laws of biology?" Chu Zhuohua examined Jing Shu thoroughly, a curious, investigative look flashing in his eyes.

Jing Shu: "???"

...

In the end, Wu You’ai was taken to Chu Zhuohua’s place to recover. After several investigations, Jing Shu concluded that Wu You’ai’s mentor was currently trustworthy. Moreover, Jing Shu would drive there every day to deliver meals to Wu You’ai and even installed a pinhole camera in Wu You’ai’s bedroom for surveillance.

In the afternoon, after returning to the villa, Jing Shu prepared a black pig for Yang Yang, delivering on all promises. That evening during dinner, she explained that Wu You’ai would be studying with her mentor for a while and also sent a video of Wu You’ai to reassure the family. With that, the day’s tumultuous events finally came to a close.

It had been a truly thrilling day. Jing Shu felt exhausted, both physically and mentally. Despite losing several large stones and hundreds of liters of gasoline, she had acquired hand grenades as spoils, and Wu You’ai’s rescue was a success. All things considered, it was a net gain.

Despite her fatigue that evening, Jing Shu persevered in practicing with the Magic Cube. Although she wasn’t in top form, she forced herself through the monotonous practice, repeating it over and over. Today’s events had made her even more aware of the Magic Cube’s importance, so she was determined to upgrade it as soon as possible.

Over and over again...

Unbeknownst to her, her speed kept increasing, but she didn’t feel it, only sensing a deep weariness.

SNAP. As she pressed the timer one last time, her consciousness began to blur. She vaguely remembered breaking her personal record.

Then, Jing Shu’s head boomed for the third time, and she completely lost consciousness, collapsing to the floor.

CLUCK CLUCK CLUCK!

MOO~

OINK OINK!

The next day, Jing Shu was awakened by the noise. Her head felt like it was about to burst from the cacophony of chickens clucking, cows mooing, and pigs oinking, all intermingling in her mind.

Opening her eyes groggily, these noises persisted, as if she had awakened in an entirely new world.

My Magic Cube Space has been upgraded again!
