I Am Cultivating in the Apocalypse
Chapter 646: Grind the Bones to Powder
CHAPTER 646: GRIND THE BONES TO POWDER
It all gushed out at once, a spectacular fountain spraying all over Dr. Zhang’s face.
"Quick, the bandage!" Dr. Zhang hurriedly had his team bring a bandage and first wrapped up the arm wound. The blood was still pouring out, but at least it wasn’t spraying anymore.
Just a second ago, Jing Shu had been wondering why the Spiritual Spring’s miracle drug was ineffective. The very next second, she was starkly contradicted—and not lightly. Jing Shu couldn’t help but fall into deep thought: It’s not that it’s ineffective, it’s just that its effect only lasts for a few short minutes. Even scabs would be washed away...
Dr. Zhang shook his head and said, "Make a decision quickly. Once we finish registering, we’ll start the amputations for everyone who needs one."
Amputating everyone... This just sounds terrifying, doesn’t it?
Liu Chengkai gritted his teeth and said, "I... I choose amputation... I’ve decided. I can’t die; I still have family. No matter how much suffering I endure, I cannot die." He was terrified of dying; he didn’t know what would become of his family if he died!
Jing Shu snapped open a small box and said, "Let me try one more time."
Dr. Zhang didn’t object and simply shrugged indifferently.
Jing Shu had Liu Chengkai bite on a towel, then directly picked up the suturing forceps and said, "I’ll stitch up your wound first and then apply the medicine to see. If it doesn’t work, then you can opt for amputation."
Liu Chengkai nodded. What other choice did he have now?
Jing Shu immediately started stitching with catgut. Although she wasn’t as experienced as a real doctor—*cough*—she managed well enough. Fearing the wound wouldn’t heal properly, she even sprinkled some special-effect powder on it before stitching. She put in more than twenty stitches, densely packed deep into the flesh, leaving no gap at all. Liu Chengkai nearly fainted from the pain.
There was no other choice. Jing Shu didn’t carry anesthetics with her, and the Powder for Anesthesia from her space hadn’t been fully developed yet. It seemed her next trip to the Medicine Association would need to address this; otherwise, family emergencies would be difficult to manage.
Jing Shu wasn’t putting in so much effort just to be meddlesome; helping this man was also helping herself. If she were gashed by a rotten mermaid and started bleeding while trapped here, what would she do? Surely, she wouldn’t resort to immediate amputation—how dreadful would that be?
After the stitches and medicine, his condition improved considerably. The blood wasn’t gushing as before, but it still seeped out slowly, as if the skin itself couldn’t contain it. This phenomenon was incredibly strange. Since there are no visible gaps left, perhaps this is due to what Dr. Zhang mentioned—a lack of platelets? It’s just like how someone with leukemia can’t have wounds because their blood won’t clot, and they’ll just keep bleeding.
Does this rotten mermaid inflict some kind of tetanus bleeding BUFF? Jing Shu frowned. This was the first time she had encountered something that even items from her space couldn’t handle. This suggests... this rotten mermaid might be a product of another dimension!
Dr. Zhang shook his head and sighed. He had stayed behind, also hoping to find a solution. He actually regarded this young woman with a newfound respect; her medicine had managed to stop the bleeding, even if only briefly. After all, his team had researched for a long time, trying countless medicines without any success. That was why they had resorted to considering scraping away the flesh and, ultimately, amputation as their only options.
Wang Miao quickly took a roll call of the people in the private room. Each time a name was called and no one responded, everyone would fall silent for a moment, their hearts heavy with a grim empathy.
Out of the initial one hundred people, only a little over eighty remained. Fortunately, only one was injured, thanks largely to the swift rescue.
"Alright, let’s distribute food to everyone now!"
Gold Dominator irritably pushed aside the dark, unappetizing food. "You all can share it."
Jing Shu gave her portion to Liu Chengkai. He ate two bowls at once, and his spirits visibly revived, but he had still lost too much blood, leaving his complexion extremely pale.
"Jing Shu, thank you. Otherwise... let’s just wait until the count is finished, then amputate. I don’t want to die," Liu Chengkai said, his head lowered, tears streaming down his face despite himself.
Jing Shu nodded. Truthfully, Liu Chengkai had the strongest will to survive of anyone she had met in all her years in the apocalypse. Someone like him deserved to live.
Just then, screams erupted from outside the private room, startling everyone. The soldiers rushed toward the sound at top speed. Jing Shu also quickly headed out, followed by her panicked classmates, who thought another monster might be attacking.
The sound, unbeknownst to them, came from near the display platform, originating from the perimeter of Jing Shu’s villa. The villa’s gate was open, and two people were screaming as they crawled out.
Everyone relaxed once they realized it wasn’t a monster attack, and all eyes turned to the two individuals.
Li Chenglong and his men were the first to arrive.
Jing Shu strode forward and shook her head at the sight of the poisoned individuals. It seemed some people had tried to take advantage of the chaos to break into her villa while she was away, only to be bitten by her guardian snakes.
"These two pried open my door while I was gone, trying to steal things from my villa, and ended up bitten by my pets," Jing Shu explained, pointing at the two men while speaking to Li Chenglong.
By the time Li Chenglong’s men dragged them out, the two were already dead, their faces a blackish-purple.
"Boss, they’re both gone," someone announced.
Hearing this, the crowd gasped. Damn, that’s brutal! Their gazes shifted back to Jing Shu, wondering what kind of pets she kept that could kill two people with a single bite.
Li Chenglong nodded. "Take them away and deal with them," he ordered, then addressed the onlookers, "Let this be a lesson to all. According to the new laws of the apocalypse, homeowners have the right to deal with trespassers this way! Don’t even think about trying to take advantage of the chaos again."
And so, the two men who had been poisoned to death just moments after entering the gate were dragged away. Many people looked at Jing Shu with complex expressions. Those who had been entertaining similar ideas also quickly abandoned them. Someone living alone, yet clearly possessing such means... In the apocalypse, no one should ever be underestimated.
As for Jing Shu’s classmates, they looked at her almost as if she were a monster. The Jing Shu from before might not have been very intimidating, but the Jing Shu of today...
"Boss, you’re so awesome! What kind of pets do you have?" Jiang Changke shamelessly asked.
Jing Shu ignored Jiang Changke. Her gaze fell upon a room piled high with rotten mermaid bones, and she sank into thought. They say you are what you eat, and that an antidote is often found near its poison. Nothing is left of these rotten mermaids but their bones. Could these bones contain a component that inhibits their saliva’s toxins?
Her eyes lit up. She rushed into the villa, grabbed a large bone, then, reconsidering, snatched a rotten mermaid’s tooth as well. She immediately began to process them.
Sure enough, with considerable effort, she managed to crush them into a fine powder. Now, should it be applied externally or taken internally?
Under the complex gazes of the onlookers, Jing Shu, dragging a large, grim-looking pile of Bone Powder, sprinkled it over Liu Chengkai’s arm.
