I Am Not Goblin Slayer
Chapter 97: The Little Goblin Encounters a Natural Predator Seedling
After successfully bringing the poison sac to the pool with Mage Hand, the following actions went very smoothly.
The poison sac was placed into the pool, and under the pressure of Mage Hand, the sac burst open. Threads of venom slowly seeped out, silently dissolving into the water.
Mission accomplished!
Gauss controlled Mage Hand to sink the sac to the bottom, pressing it down with a stone to prevent the goblins from noticing the foreign object.
Then he dismissed the cantrip.
Now, all that was left was to wait for the good news.
Leaving the goblin village behind, Gauss returned to the forest. He chewed on some jerky while cautiously observing the situation in the village.
"Creak creak!"
On this scorching afternoon, the cicadas in the forest chirped incessantly.
On the clearing, visible waves of heat rolled and shimmered.
The temperature was rising bit by bit.
Even Gauss, standing in the shade of the forest, had taken out his water pouch and drank several times to moisten his dry lips.
Not to mention the goblins.
Over the next hour or two, Gauss observed that most goblins in the village had already gone to the pool to fetch water and drink, then returned to their makeshift shelters to rest.
After a while, the poison began to take effect.
The first to suffer were the sentinel goblins guarding the area;
they drank water earliest.
A goblin sleeping against a wall was suddenly awakened by sharp abdominal pain. Under Gauss’s watchful eyes, it squatted by the low wall and defecated on the spot.
A thick, murky, brownish viscous substance burst forth like a flood under the goblin.
The grass beneath its feet instantly turned yellow-brown.
At first, there was only one, but soon several others imitated the first, repeatedly defecating.
Though disgusted, Gauss acknowledged the effectiveness of the laxative and silently resolved to return to that shop later to stock up.
Before long, the goblins resting in the crude shelters all scrambled up, painfully making their way to the low wall to relieve themselves.
Those who couldn’t make it in time just did it outside the shelters.
The number kept growing.
Within just one hour, more than forty goblins fell ill at different times.
Many were clearly exhausted from diarrhea, weakly returning to their shelters to rest as if lifeless.
The only regret Gauss had was that the Red-Capped Goblin in the central tent never came out to drink.
He didn’t know if it was more tolerant of thirst or had stored clean drinking water inside the tent.
“It’s time to launch a righteous surprise attack.” Seeing most goblins suffering from diarrhea to varying degrees, Gauss knew he couldn’t wait any longer.
If he waited any longer, night would come, and some goblins might recover some strength.
Before the battle, he did one last check and adjustment of his equipment.
Grasping his magic wand, Gauss approached the goblin village.
Before he even got close, a strong stench hit him from the wall nearby.
Luckily, he had prepared a mask this time, which blocked some of the smell.
He kicked open the crude wooden door made of sticks. The sentinel closest to the door was startled by the sudden noise and struggled to get up.
But how could a weakened goblin outrun Gauss’s reaction?
Under its shocked gaze, the blade chopped off its pitiful little head.
The head rolled on the ground, leaving behind that large, cloudy eye that still expressed the terror and shock of its owner.
"Goblin killed *1"
"Total monster kills: 186"
Seeing the defenseless goblins, Gauss felt no guilt.
Instead, he felt his earlier efforts had not been in vain.
The laxative had slowed down the normally agile goblins significantly.
Killing them was effortless.
As for any sympathy for the goblins about to be slaughtered, he felt none.
The nature of the goblin race meant humans and them were forever enemies.
The food racks in the village square, holding human thighs, were the best proof.
Killing goblins was the right thing to do.
"Kill!"
Gauss rushed into the village and charged forward.
The goblins closest to him hadn’t even managed to grab their weapons before becoming lost souls beneath his sharp blade.
The murky blood splattered all over Gauss.
But he paid no mind;
after all, he couldn’t expect to remain spotless after massacring a tribe of dozens of goblins.
"Goblin killed *4"
"Total monster kills: 190"
Just ten more to go!
Gauss shifted his gaze to goblins further away.
By now, the goblins had noticed the uninvited guest and hurriedly grabbed their weapons, gathering together.
But because of the laxative’s toxicity, their movements were sluggish and unsteady, almost like they were floating.
Their ugly faces were full of panic—weak bodies suddenly attacked by an enemy invading their village.
Inside the leader’s tent, the Red-Capped Goblin was awakened by the noise outside.
It equipped its weapons, bent down, lifted a corner of the curtain, and peeked through the gap to observe the situation.
Then it quietly slipped out from under the tent’s curtain.
Tiptoeing to the shadowed corner, it drew an arrow from the quiver on its back and quickly nocked it.
"Whoosh!"
An arrow tore through the air, flying precisely toward Gauss’s side.
Its movement was stealthy. Gauss, focused on the goblins ahead, somewhat neglected the sudden side attack.
Halfway through the flight, his peripheral vision caught it, and he instinctively blocked.
"Thud!"
The armor spell continuously cast on Gauss was no decoration.
The arrowhead hit Gauss’s side but was intercepted by a layer of energy field.
Ripples spread near the arrowhead, and finally, the arrow’s kinetic energy was completely absorbed by the energy field, causing it to fall to the ground.
"Hmm?"
Gauss tilted his head toward the tent.
He realized the Red-Capped Goblin had quietly snuck out at some unknown time.
Indeed, its intelligence was higher than ordinary goblins.
If it weren’t for his Mage Armor, things might have been dangerous.
Although small in size, it moved quickly and was strong. Its arrow’s force was twice that of a normal goblin.
Seeing that its attack failed, the Red-Capped Goblin’s eyes flickered with unease.
Then it glanced at its sloppy subordinates and felt even more confused.
What exactly was going on?
After hesitating for a moment, it chose not to aim and shoot at Gauss again.
Its subconscious told it that the man in the distance was a very powerful opponent, nothing like the weak bipeds it had killed before, and that he appeared well prepared.
So it stepped forward like a nimble monkey, quickly darting into the gathered group, blending into the goblin "army."
Trying to hide and keep shooting sneak arrows? Gauss shook his head.
Other new professionals might have trouble dealing with such a cunning goblin leader.
But he was different.
Moreover, the goblin army that the Red-Capped Goblin pinned its hopes on was just a feeble remnant at this moment.
Gauss gripped the Unbreaking Scepter and slammed it into the ground.
A blue aura immediately condensed in front of him.
His gaze locked onto several goblin archers on the distant flank.
"Magic Missile!"
Two consecutive Magic Missiles locked tightly onto the archer goblins.
In the next moment, blue oval light spheres streaked through the air, leaving brilliant blue glows as they precisely struck the chests of the two archers.
"Bang!!"
The two goblins died almost instantly upon impact.
"Goblin killed *2"
"Total monster kills: 192"
Not enough.
Gauss ignored the goblin battalion, which was under the Red-Capped Goblin’s roar, forcing themselves to charge.
He focused on the remaining archer goblins.
In fact, if not for the Red-Capped Goblin’s extreme cunning, always hiding in the group, Gauss would have prioritized it according to the principle of "capture the leader."
Exhaling, mana surged quickly into his wand again.
The blue aura, carrying a deathly omen, coalesced once more.
The goblin archers, climbing the low wall and preparing to shoot, saw the terrifying glow and paled.
But Magic Missile’s power was irresistible to ordinary goblins!
"Boom!"
Another two consecutive missiles!
After accurately killing the archers, Gauss exhaled, gathered mana two more times in succession.
Finally, before the goblin troops arrived, he killed all eight archer goblins present!
"Goblin killed *6"
"Total monster kills: 198"
Seeing the approaching goblins armed with spears, Gauss withdrew his mana, his expression unchanged.
He even took a moment to wipe his hands and stuffed a piece of jerky into his mouth to chew.
Because in this state, the goblins were simply too slow.
They posed little threat to him.
He swung the metal magic wand in a circle before him.
"Whoosh!"
The sturdy scepter whirred wildly!
The few fastest goblins at the front, who probably hadn’t drunk water, were instantly blasted away by the heavy force the moment they touched the wand!
Gauss bent his knees slightly, activated Enhanced Jump, and felt power surge into his lower limbs.
It was as if wind was born beneath his feet.
Their attacks became slower than his.
Too weak!
He lightly leapt to dodge the following spear thrusts.
Then he plunged the wand into the ground, drew his sword from his waist.
Two sword slashes pierced the air.
"Pop!"
"Pop!"
Two goblins were pierced through the throat before they could even react.
"Goblin killed *2"
"Total monster kills: 200"
