CHAPTER 122: CHAPTER 122: DOES SHE HAVE TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE?

"I’ll close the door for you. You go ahead!" Kris Cooper said, his large hand holding the door.

Vera Wave couldn’t muster the energy to refute him, so she fled to the restroom, sat on the toilet, and began to consider her next move.

Fake an illness? That guy is so smart; he’d see through it instantly. Escape?

She quietly pulled the door open just a slit, only to see Kris Cooper standing by the fridge, flipping through one of her photo albums.

No way out! It’s over. It looks like I’ll just have to let him do as he pleases.

When she didn’t come out for a while, Kris Cooper grew worried, walked over, and knocked on the restroom door.

"Vera, are you okay?"

"I... I’m fine."

Vera had no choice but to stand up and exit the restroom. She wasn’t sure if she had eaten too much, but her stomach suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable, and she subconsciously pressed her lower abdomen.

Noticing her action, Kris Cooper placed a hand on her shoulder, a puzzled look on his face as he glanced at her lower abdomen. "Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

"I’m fine!" Vera, thinking he was about to start, hastily retreated two steps. "Um... sir... would you like some water? I can get it for you... Or perhaps you’d like to watch some TV? Oh, right... I have Ludo. How about we play a couple more games?"

Gazing at the young woman’s flustered expression, Kris Cooper narrowed his eyes slightly.

"What exactly is wrong with you?"

"I..." Vera looked down, her mind racing for a solution. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "I... I’m going out to buy something."

She tried to bolt for the door.

Kris Cooper sidestepped, blocking her way.

It was nearly dawn; he couldn’t feel at ease letting her go out alone. If she truly needed something, he would go buy it for her.

"What do you need to buy so late?"

"Adult products, of course. Didn’t they say on TV that we need to practice good hygiene? I’m going to buy condoms."

"That won’t be necessary."

He had been too indulgent that morning and figured she still wasn’t feeling well, so he hadn’t planned on taking things further tonight.

Vera, however, had no idea what he was thinking and assumed he meant they didn’t need to use any protection.

"How can that be? We need to be hygienic! Otherwise, it’ll be a problem if one of us gets sick, don’t you think, sir?"

Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t some promiscuous man; he hadn’t been with anyone other than her. How could he possibly have a disease?

"I’m not sick."

"I wasn’t talking about you, sir! I was talking about me!" Sensing his displeasure, Vera forced an appeasing smile. "It’s always better to be safe than sorry, right? What if I have some contagious disease? It would be terrible if I passed it on to you."

This damn girl, who knew what mischief she was concocting now.

He had a business trip tomorrow afternoon and a meeting in the morning. He hadn’t slept well last night and definitely needed to catch up on sleep today.

Placing a hand on her shoulder, Kris Cooper guided her into the restroom. He turned on the faucet and checked that her showerhead wasn’t broken before finally speaking.

"Be a good girl now and take a proper shower."

A smile playing on his lips, he reached out, cupped her small face, leaned in, and kissed her forehead.

His intention had simply been to kiss her and then leave, but Vera clearly misunderstood. Gritting her teeth, she yanked down the zipper of her jacket.

Since it’s inevitable, I might as well get it over with sooner rather than later. She slipped off her sports jacket, tossed it into the laundry hamper, and stood before him with her head bowed.

"Hurry up!"

Get it over with quickly so I can shower and sleep.

Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow, not immediately understanding what she was doing.

"Vera, you..."

What, isn’t this enough? Does he really expect me to initiate? Fine, whatever. After all, I’m the one who took his money!

The image of that check flashed in her mind. Vera, her head still lowered, bit her lip. Finally, she stepped forward, placed her hands on his shoulders, and, standing on her tiptoes, pressed her lips to his.
