I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO
Chapter 153: A Gift from Your Husband
CHAPTER 153: CHAPTER 153: A GIFT FROM YOUR HUSBAND
She bade him goodbye and quickly slipped out of the car, rushing into the building and up to the second floor. Standing in the stairwell, she watched his car turn around and drive away before she finally let out a sigh and patted her chest.
Thank goodness I thought of an excuse in advance, or he would have insisted on me providing some special service today!
Feeling relieved, she entered her apartment, took a quick hot shower, and snuggled into bed.
Just as she was warming up under the covers, her phone beeped.
She reached for her phone and saw a text from "Ace" – "Open the door, I’m coming up!"
Are you kidding me?!
While she was still in shock, someone was already knocking on her door.
Fearing Kris Cooper might get angry, Vera quickly put on a jacket, switched on the lights, and opened the door.
As soon as the door opened, Kris walked in carrying a box. Seeing Vera bundled in her blanket, he promptly issued an order.
"Get back into bed!"
"But... what are you..."
Kris frowned and looked up. Meeting his gaze, she immediately swallowed the question on the tip of her tongue and obediently returned to the bedroom, snuggling back under the covers.
Listening to the clattering sounds from outside, she was filled with curiosity but didn’t dare to take a peek.
A moment later, the sound of footsteps indicated Kris had entered the bedroom. She glanced over anxiously and saw him placing a small, square black box on her bedside table.
"What is this?"
"A humidifier!" Kris plugged in the device, turned it on, and mist spurted from the outlet. Adjusting the angle of the mist outlet, he stepped back a few paces, looking pleased. "What do you think?"
Vera looked at the square box. "It looks pretty solid. How much was it?"
"Over three thousand, I think?" Kris replied.
"Over three thousand?!" Vera looked helplessly at the spendthrift before her. "The most expensive one at the supermarket is just over three hundred."
Because the weather was dry, she had actually planned to buy one and had even gone to the supermarket to check them out, but her tight budget had stopped her from buying it in the end.
"It’s not the same. This one has germicidal and automatic temperature control functions." Kris turned to her with a smile, then reached out to gently tap her little nose. "It’s a gift from your husband," he said indulgently. "You don’t have to pay!"
Saying this, he reached into his pocket again, pulled out a box of Hua Su pills, and took one out, holding it to her lips.
"Let one dissolve in your mouth. These are Hua Su pills, specifically for mouth ulcers."
Vera, nestled in her bed, looked at the small pill he held to her lips. A warmth spread through her heart, and she felt deeply touched.
Since the downfall of her family, she had grown accustomed to the fickleness of human nature, enduring countless disdainful looks. Those who once fawned over her not only offered no help but even kicked her when she was down. He was the only one who had offered timely assistance.
"Actually..." she pursed her lips, "I don’t have any mouth ulcers... I... I lied to you. I was just afraid... you... you’d make me... do *that*!"
Her head hanging low, she nervously waited for his reaction.
Whether he got angry or flew into a rage, even if he wanted to have an earth-shattering showdown with her then and there, she was ready to accept it all!
She had been expecting him to fly off the handle, but instead, all she heard was a soft chuckle.
"It’s good that you don’t have any." A large hand then gently landed on her head and ruffled her hair. "Get some sleep then. I’ve already set the humidifier. It will automatically go into sleep mode if it runs out of water. Good night!"
Kris stood up and turned towards the door.
From under the covers, Vera hurriedly called out.
"Kris Cooper."
