CHAPTER 171: CHAPTER 171: JUST THE TWO OF THEM? (2)
"Director Lin wants it by the start of work tomorrow." Sam Davis gazed at her inquiringly. "Is there any issue?"
Vera Wave pursed her lips. "No!"
"Good." Sam Davis nodded, satisfied. "You can do it!"
Taking the documents Sam Davis handed back, Vera Wave left his office and returned to her desk. Glancing at her watch, it was almost one o’clock, nearly time for the afternoon shift to begin.
Seeing her colleagues returning from lunch one by one, she grabbed the remaining half of her breakfast sandwich from her bag and hastily wolfed it down. After pouring herself a cup of hot water, she immediately immersed herself in perfecting her proposal.
She spent the entire afternoon researching materials, finding photos, and hand-drawing simple storyboards, keeping herself incredibly busy.
"Vera Wave, working overtime?"
It wasn’t until a colleague patted her on the shoulder that Vera Wave snapped out of her work.
"Oh... I need to stay a little longer."
"Alright, then remember to turn off the lights and lock the door before you leave."
"Okay."
Her female colleague waved goodbye and left. Vera Wave looked out the window at the darkening sky, then turned her attention back to her computer screen. She had just typed a line of text when she suddenly remembered something.
I almost forgot! I promised him we’d have that meal together!
Glancing at the time on her phone, it was almost six o’clock. She quickly dialed Kris Cooper’s number.
"I’m sorry, Mr. CEO, I have to work overtime tonight. We’ll have to postpone our meal for another day!"
"Come upstairs."
"What?!"
"52nd floor, CEO Office."
"But... I still have to work overtime."
"That’s an order!"
Vera Wave raised a hand to her forehead. "Upstairs... there’s no one else there, right?"
"No."
"I... I’ll be right up."
After hanging up, Vera Wave glared at her phone for a moment. Eventually, she gathered her documents and computer, hugging them to her chest. Then, she turned off the lights, locked the door properly, and left the office.
The elevator doors opened on the 52nd floor. Vera Wave peeked her head out, looking left and right. Confirming no one was in the corridor, she tiptoed out of the elevator like a thief.
After walking a few steps, she arrived at a T-junction, hesitating over which way to go, when a familiar voice called out from directly in front of her.
"This way!"
At the end of the corridor facing her stood Kris Cooper, one hand casually tucked into his pocket. He wore a light-yellow shirt with no tie, its sleeves unbuttoned and casually rolled up to his elbows.
His somewhat laid-back posture was both roguish and sexy.
Vera Wave’s heart gave a sudden lurch. She quickly lowered her gaze and, walking up to him, addressed him with her head bowed.
"Mr. CEO."
Kris Cooper turned and walked toward his office.
"It’s just the two of us on the entire 52nd floor. You don’t need to be so formal."
Just the two of them?
Vera Wave felt an inexplicable surge of nervousness. Suddenly, the phone in her bag rang, startling her. She hurriedly answered it.
"Are you off work yet?" Nathan Leafcastle’s voice came through the phone.
"What’s up?"
The man on the other end sounded momentarily taken aback. "We agreed to have dinner together."
"Oh... I’m so sorry, I... I got too busy and forgot." Vera Wave’s voice was full of apology. "I’m truly sorry. My boss needs some urgent work done, and I really can’t get away today. How about tomorrow? I’ll treat you tomorrow."
"If you’re working too late, do you want me to pick you up and take you home?"
"No, no, it’s fine."
"Alright then, see you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
Vera Wave put her phone away. As she lifted her head, her eyes met Kris Cooper’s intense stare.
