CHAPTER 195: CHAPTER 196: NO REASON NEEDED (1)
Leaning against the wall, Kris Cooper lowered his face, pondering briefly before raising it again to look at Andre Colin.
"So... you mean that if she remembers me, she’ll also remember those things?"
Andre Colin watched his friend sympathetically, with a slight frown, and gently nodded.
Kris Cooper was silent for a few seconds, "According to your speculation, what’s her current situation?"
"It’s like a giant rock has dropped into a dead pool of water; the memories buried in her subconscious have been activated by you, but full recovery certainly won’t be so quick. If you want her to recover her memories, she’ll need a lot more of such strong stimuli." As he said this, Andre Colin turned right and pointed to the side window, "Just behind is the smoking area."
He knew Kris Cooper’s habit; when it came to important matters that needed pondering, he liked to quietly smoke alone.
Kris Cooper took a deep breath, as Andre Colin expected, he indeed needed to think things over quietly now.
"Take care of her for me for a while."
Murmuring softly, Kris Cooper turned and went downstairs.
As he watched Kris’s figure disappear around the corner of the stairs, Andre Colin sighed softly and returned to the ward.
Kris Cooper went downstairs along the stairway, arriving at the backyard’s smoking area.
It was midnight, and the smoking area was deserted and quiet. He fumbled for cigarettes, took one out, lit it at his lips, took a puff, and slowly exhaled a cloud of bluish-gray smoke.
The rising smoke enveloped the man’s handsome face in a haze.
...
...
In the ward.
Vera Wave opened her eyes, looking at the unfamiliar ceiling above, then turned her face and noticed Andre Colin sitting beside her, her eyes tinged with confusion.
"You fainted, and then Kris brought you here. He’s outside for a smoke and asked me to take care of you," Andre Colin explained the situation succinctly, his gaze scrutinizing her face. "Are you okay?"
"Dean Andre... sorry for the trouble." Vera smiled gratefully at him and raised her hand to rub her temples, "It’s just... my head still hurts a bit."
Hearing the words "Dean Andre," Andre Colin knew the result was as expected; Vera hadn’t recovered her memory.
It was obvious that those dark memories had a significant impact on her, and in her subconscious, she did not want to recall those events, hence deliberately suppressing those earlier memories.
It’s similar to how, when one cannot endure the pain, the brain voluntarily chooses to faint; it’s the body’s self-preservation instinct.
He stood up, walked to the window, and looked at Kris Cooper, who was sitting on a chair in the backyard smoking. He took out his phone, quickly edited a text message, and sent it.
"She’s awake, but her memory hasn’t returned."
The man sitting on the chair hurriedly discarded the cigarette in his hand and ran towards the emergency building.
Two minutes later, Kris Cooper returned to the ward, smelling of smoke. Having run all the way upstairs, his breathing was noticeably unstable.
"Vera!" Bursting through the door, Kris Cooper quickly walked to her side, watching her face with concern, "How are you?"
"I’m fine, just a bit of a headache."
Vera secretly glanced at Andre Colin, her gaze falling on Kris Cooper’s face, hesitating to speak.
Having a keen sense of things, Andre Colin immediately noticed Vera wanted to say something to Kris, so he stood up willingly.
"I have something to do. You two chat for a while; I’ll come back later."
Kris Cooper escorted him to the door, the two exchanged a glance, and Andre Colin turned to leave.
