CHAPTER 209: CHAPTER 210: SCOUNDRELS AND MAD DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN (2)

Vera Wave stepped into an empty elevator car, shaking her head slightly with a faint smile. Truth be told, she rather admired Kylo for her talent. Her previous proposal wasn’t bad either; it just didn’t fit this particular project.

They were in the same department, seeing each other all the time. Vera didn’t want a strained relationship with Kylo, but the way things were going, Vera had undoubtedly become a thorn in Kylo Sail’s side.

"I’m a bit confused. It’s just an office; isn’t she overreacting?"

"This is more than just about an office. I heard Director Palmer might be planning to have a baby and could resign. Moving you to Manager Zhou’s office sounds like they’re grooming you for a promotion." Merlin Bradley leaned against the elevator wall and reached out to grasp Vera’s arm. "Future Manager Wave, I’ll be counting on you from now on!"

It suddenly dawned on Vera. So that’s why her reaction was so intense. But this is impossible. I just joined and don’t have nearly enough experience to be a manager.

"True," Merlin Bradley sighed. "If Kylo gets promoted to manager, we’re doomed."

"We earn our living based on our abilities. So what if she becomes the manager?" Vera was quite philosophical about it. Let’s just focus on getting this project done first.

She had spent many years by her father’s side, and he had taught her many things. The most important lesson was to be down-to-earth and focus on the task at hand. What she needed now wasn’t a manager’s position, but a genuine opportunity for practical experience, to do her current work well.

Kate Palmer hadn’t resigned yet, and Kylo wasn’t a manager yet either. Worrying about such things now was completely unnecessary.

After leaving Ashton Real Estate, the two of them headed straight for Imperial City Filmmaking. Droves of extras lined up there for work every day; it was the perfect place to find actors.

They took the subway to Imperial City Filmmaking. From a distance, they could already see young people standing in small groups at the entrance, waiting for a chance to be cast.

On the way, they had discussed the actors they needed. For now, they required thirteen actors in total, with two main roles.

"Come on, let’s go over and take a look." Vera led Merlin Bradley over to the extras waiting for work. Merlin Bradley called out loudly, "Is anyone here looking for acting work?"

Her shout instantly drew a crowd of at least thirty people around them.

"Me!"

"Me, me, me!"

Without exception, all these young people were "Imperial City drifters" who had come here chasing the dream of stardom. After their initial hope, reality had long since shattered their dreams. Now, to make a living, they would play any part, even a corpse, as long as they got paid.

Vera raised a hand, signaling for everyone to be quiet. Then she spoke loudly.

"Everyone, please quiet down and listen to me," Vera announced. "We’re filming an advertisement and need seven men and six women. The job will last about a week, and the pay is one thousand USD per person, with meals provided. If you’re interested, you can register with me here."

This pay was significantly higher than the eighty dollars a day an extra usually made, so everyone was immediately interested. Vera had them form a line to register with Merlin Bradley, while she stood to the side, observing each person’s appearance and demeanor.

When she found someone suitable, she would glance at the name Merlin Bradley had written down and make a mark next to it in her own small notebook.

By noon, around a hundred people had registered. Deciding they had enough candidates for the supporting roles, Vera took Merlin Bradley inside to look for two experienced actors for the main roles.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted at the main entrance.
