The first card was the Jack of Hearts, the second was the Jack of Spades, and the third was the five of Diamonds—a pair of Jacks.

Vera looked at her hand and then at Kris Cooper’s face, trying to read him but finding no clues.

Her cards weren’t exactly low, but... she didn’t want to risk losing. If she lost, these five hundred USD would be gone.

She casually tossed the cards on the table.

"The first round doesn’t count. I fold!"

Kris Cooper frowned in annoyance. That stubborn girl! He had deliberately let her win, and she still refused.

When she was out in the backyard, he had already arranged the first few hands. To prevent her from noticing, he had deliberately avoided any particularly high cards, just so she could win more naturally. Who would have thought she’d pull a stunt like this?

Seeing his furrowed brow, Vera felt a surge of relief.

Hmph, he must have had high cards. Good thing I didn’t bet.

So, for the second round, Vera’s three cards were the three of Spades, the five of Spades, and the Queen of Spades—a small flush.

Kris Cooper glanced at his cards. "One thousand!"

"Isn’t it supposed to be five hundred a hand?"

"Yes, five hundred. I’m betting a thousand. Is that not allowed?"

Could he actually have good cards?

Vera pursed her lips and tossed her cards to one side.

"I fold," she said, pushing her money towards him. "Here... take it."

Kris Cooper’s irritation deepened. He had deliberately bet more to allow her to win more, and yet this girl, clearly holding a strong hand, refused to call. Is she doing this on purpose to annoy me?

Looking at his expression, Vera was more certain he had high cards and secretly heaved a sigh of relief.

That was close. Good thing I didn’t call, or I would’ve lost fifteen hundred USD straight up.

"Honey, I’m out of money... can we stop playing?"

She asked softly, though she held out little hope.

He had intended to give her money, but instead, he’d ended up winning five hundred USD from her. What kind of mess was this?!

Kris Cooper shot back two words: "No way!" Then he continued dealing.

Vera grabbed her cards from the table and took a look.

After all, her winning all the time would seem too suspicious. Kris Cooper had arranged the hands so she would win more often than she lost. This third hand was set up for her to lose.

Vera looked at her cards, bit her lip, and slammed her bank card on the table.

"One thousand, let’s reveal the cards!"

I don’t believe it! Can he really have good cards every single hand?

Watching her slap her cards onto the table, Kris Cooper could only shake his head with a wry smile.

This silly girl was truly something else. He couldn’t even give her money when he was trying to hand it to her.

After she revealed her hand, he had no choice but to lay down his cards as well.

Three cards, a pair of Kings—higher than Vera’s.

"You..." Vera looked at his hand. "It’s not fair! How come you have good cards every time? Are you cheating?"

Kris Cooper extended his hand in amusement.

"One thousand USD!"

Vera took out her wallet and slapped her bank card into his hand.

"Here you go."

Kris Cooper held the card between his fingers and placed it in front of her.

"I only accept cash."

"I don’t have any," Vera replied irritably.

He then pointed to his own lips and said with a roguish smile, "Then come swipe your card here!"

"I’ll owe you for now." Vera stretched out her hand, snatched the cards from him, and declared, "I’ll deal!"

Watching her start to deal, a smirk played on Kris Cooper’s lips.

The fourth hand was originally meant for her to win, but since she was dealing now, he would be the one to win.

He glanced at the cards in his hand.

"One thousand."

"Show the cards!"

Vera defiantly slapped her cards onto the table, only to be stunned when she saw his hand. She lost again!

Kris Cooper rested his chin in his hands, smiling.

"That’s two thousand USD in total. No card swipes this time, Vera. You have to take off a piece of clothing."

She’s only wearing a single dress. Let’s see how she manages to take anything off!
