CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: SETTLED WITH A KISS

Vera Wave stretched out her hand towards Kris Cooper. "One thing at a time. First, give me that five thousand dollar IOU!"

Kris Cooper took out his wallet, tucked his ID card inside, casually picked up the IOU for five thousand dollars, and presented it to her.

Vera snatched it away, clenching it tightly in her fist.

Tucking his wallet back into his suit’s inner pocket, Kris Cooper said with a cheerful smile, "How should we settle the rest of the bill?"

"Heh heh... Of course..." Vera shot him a smile and hopped off the table, intending to run, but Kris advanced a step. As she jumped, her nose nearly collided with his chest, leaving her with no way out.

"Of course, what?"

She wasn’t selling herself; of course, she couldn’t actually pay him back with her body.

Vera took a step back, her lower back already pressed against the edge of the table. With no room to retreat, she bit her lip.

"Just wait a little longer. As soon as I earn some money, I’ll definitely pay you back. I absolutely won’t default on what I owe..."

Gazing at her moist lips, Kris Cooper naturally recalled the kiss from that night, and his mouth couldn’t help but feel a little dry.

"’Make money?’ You won’t even take the job I offered. How am I supposed to know if you can earn anything? Even banks assess repayment ability before lending money!"

"Alright then..." Vera turned, grabbed the contract from the table, and said, "I’ll sign it right now and start work tomorrow. As soon as I get paid, I’ll pay you back in installments. We can just waive the interest, okay?"

Although the contract term was a bit long, if she really worked hard, this company still had great potential.

Besides, if she really didn’t want to work here anymore, she could find a way to get herself fired, thus naturally avoiding any penalties for breach of contract.

Kris Cooper put his hand on the contract. "Forget it. The term is too long, and the penalty for breach of contract is too high. What if you sign it and then report me to the Human Resources Bureau?"

"I was just joking! Actually, I think this contract is... very reasonable, very humane." Afraid he would take it, Vera clung tightly to the contract with one hand while using the other to gently pry his fingers away. "Manager Kris... please let go. Don’t strain yourself out, huh!"

Kris Cooper released his fingers one by one. Vera immediately snatched the contract and rapidly signed her name on both copies. Clutching one tightly, she presented the other to him.

"’Signed and sealed! One copy for each of us!’ she added with a triumphant little laugh.

Little brat. She can still smile now? That’s only because she hasn’t seen the clauses at the end.

"Alright then." Kris Cooper opened a drawer, put the contract inside, and locked it. "You can leave after you’ve paid the interest. Remember to be on time for work tomorrow. Report directly to the Administration Department."

He wasn’t sure what job would actually suit her, so he decided to assign her to the Administration Department for now.

"I still have to pay interest?" Vera frowned. "Didn’t I already sign the contract? Besides, I really don’t have any money right now. If you don’t believe me, check my wallet. I have less than a hundred dollars in there. I’ve been eating instant noodles for three days!"

Of course, three days was an exaggeration; it had only been one meal last night.

Her only goal was to appear poor and pitiful.

"Pay the interest with a kiss."

Kris Cooper turned his face towards her, drawing closer.

Vera didn’t quite hear him clearly. ’With a script’? What script?!

Subconsciously, Vera lifted her face just as the man’s face leaned in. Their lips accidentally collided.

Her front teeth! OUCH, that hurt!

Vera sucked in a sharp breath from the pain, just as a pair of soft lips descended, covering her own.

As their lips met, her eyes flew wide open.
