CHAPTER 38: CHAPTER 38: YOU’RE SICK, YOU NEED TREATMENT!

"Rest assured, I’m not short on cash!" The young woman swayed her hips as she walked to the table and peered into the bag of coffee. "Did you get what I asked for?"

"One Americano, two lattes, and three cappuccinos."

"Your intelligence is seriously lacking!" She crossed her arms. "I clearly ordered two lattes and one Americano! Seriously, don’t think that just because you’re pretty, everything’s fine. These days, it’s not about looks; it’s about brains!"

If a person wants to nitpick, they can find a million reasons to do so.

Vera chuckled. "Sis, what you’re experiencing is called memory impairment. It’s a symptom of a damaged brain, an illness that needs treatment! Otherwise, you’re very likely to progress towards senile dementia."

This woman was obviously trying to stir up trouble; of course, Vera wouldn’t hold back now.

She pulled out the note she had jotted down earlier from her pocket and held it up for the other woman to see.

"Take a good look. This is what I wrote down when I took the call. There’s absolutely no mistake."

The finance department held the economic lifeblood of the entire company; everyone had to go through them to get paid. Furthermore, since most of the technical staff were male, the few young women in the finance department had long been spoiled. This was especially true for one of them—the most attractive of the bunch—who was always hailed by the men in the technical department as the ’Finance Department Goddess.’ Accustomed to being treated like royalty, she was now incensed by Vera’s scathing remarks.

"What did you just call me?"

Vera smiled. "I thought it was just your software that had issues, but it seems your hardware isn’t much better! If your hearing is bad, you should get a hearing aid. There’s a place right next to Starbucks—I think it’s a national chain—called something like the ’Brainless Club’ or whatever. Seems like it would suit you perfectly."

"You..."

The usually sharp-tongued ’Finance Department Goddess’ was now trembling with rage. She pointed at Vera, stuttering "You... you..." for a while, unable to form a coherent sentence.

Seeing the coffee on the table, in a fit of anger and disregarding everything else, she grabbed a cup and threw it at Vera.

Vera nimbly dodged aside. The coffee splashed past her, arcing like brown rain towards the parting automatic doors.

Just then, the automatic doors slid open, and the coffee, like a sudden downpour, drenched the man walking in. His white shirt instantly transformed into an abstract painting.

The man who entered was in his thirties. He was Kaiden Wilton, the Finance Director, head of the finance department.

Wiping coffee from his chin, Kaiden Wilton frowned at the subordinate who had thrown it.

"What happened?!"

The ’Finance Department Goddess’ was left dumbstruck, while Vera allowed a slight smirk to play on her lips.

Talk about reaping what you sow!

Just as Vera was preparing to enjoy the unfolding drama, the ’Finance Department Goddess’ lifted a hand and pointed straight at her face.

"It was her! It’s all her fault! She hit me first, so I threw the coffee at her in self-defense!"

What a classic case of the culprit crying foul first!

Vera took a light breath and was about to explain when she heard a soft chuckle from behind Kaiden Wilton.

That voice... it sounded vaguely familiar.

Vera looked up and immediately saw Kris Cooper’s devastatingly handsome face emerge from behind Kaiden Wilton. He then stepped towards her.

"Starting a fight on your first day at the company? You really know how to cause a stir, don’t you?"

"I didn’t start any fight."

Kris Cooper raised an eyebrow. "You didn’t? So, she’s framing you?!"

Vera shot him a glare, then cozied up and hugged his arm.

"Darling, what brings you here?"

MUAH.
