CHAPTER 74: CHAPTER 74 DEEP FRIENDSHIP AMONG BROS

Vera Wave quickly changed and rushed out of the building, all in less than eight minutes.

It wasn’t that she feared Kris Cooper docking her pay. The real issue was that it was getting late; if she didn’t hurry, she’d be late for work.

Outside the building, Tommy Taylor stood by the car. Seeing her emerge, he greeted her with a warm smile.

"Miss Wave, please get in."

"Thank you."

Vera nodded courteously and sat beside Kris Cooper in the spacious back seat.

Within moments, the car started moving.

She glanced at Tommy in the front seat, then at Kris Cooper beside her. Filled with questions she felt it inappropriate to ask, she remained quiet.

"Why aren’t you writing it down?" Kris Cooper asked.

Of course, he didn’t really want to settle accounts with her; he just wanted to hear her talk, to banter with her a bit.

"Ah, oh..." She took out a form. "A total of four, so four hundred."

"You sneaked half of one."

"How about three hundred and fifty, then?"

"You didn’t remove the stem from the first one. Deduct fifty."

"You clearly don’t know a thing about health. Strawberry stems are very nutritious; I was just looking out for you..."

"Then from now on, I’ll eat the strawberries, and you can eat the stems."

"Stingy! Fine, three hundred it is!"

...

The man and woman in the backseat bickered intensely over a single strawberry. In the front, Tommy and the driver exchanged glances, dumbfounded expressions on both their faces.

Is this really the president of their company, the man who handles deals worth hundreds of millions like it’s nothing?

Happy moments like these were rare. So, despite hitting traffic, Kris Cooper didn’t complain at all. In fact, he was in an unusually good mood.

When the four of them entered the elevator, Vera glanced at her watch and gasped.

"Oh no, Emily Baker is definitely going to fire me."

Skipping work yesterday afternoon, late again this morning... If Emily Baker finds out, I’m definitely fired.

"Who is Emily Baker?"

"The Administrative Director."

It was Tommy who answered him.

Hearing their conversation, Vera suddenly had an idea. She sidled up to Tommy and took his arm.

"Mr. Taylor, could you possibly...?"

She was about to ask Tommy to put in a good word for her. But before she could finish, a thunderous voice cut her off.

"Let go!"

That damn girl! How dare she touch another man!

Startled, Vera quickly pulled her hand back. Tommy simultaneously stepped away, retreating to the farthest corner of the elevator.

Vera looked at Tommy, then at Kris Cooper’s dark expression. At first, she was confused, but then understanding dawned.

He’s so possessive of Tommy! She can’t even touch him. Talk about a serious bromance!

By this time, the elevator had reached the top floor.

Kris Cooper shot her a displeased glare, then frowned and strode out of the elevator, walking off quickly.

"Miss Wave, the stairs are that way," Tommy said, pointing to a nearby corridor.

"Thank you."

Vera thanked him and hurried off, running down the emergency stairs. She tiptoed past the Administration Department office, trying her best not to be seen. However, just as she reached the elevator lobby, Emily Baker walked out, bag in hand.

Emily frowned the moment she saw Vera.

Vera quickly put on a smile. "Good morning, Director Baker!"

"Morning?!" Emily’s frown deepened. "You’re just getting to work now?"

"I..." Vera forced a sweet smile. "I’m so sorry. There was a bit of traffic, so I’m just two minutes late."
