CHAPTER 91: CHAPTER 91: HAVE YOU FALLEN FOR ME? [ADDITIONAL RELEASE]
Feeling the man’s hand rest on her shoulder, Vera Wave grew anxious and subconsciously took a step back, retreating to a corner of the elevator.
Kris Cooper’s fingers, which were fiddling with a strand of hair, tensed, and his face grew somber.
That little brat! She actually thought he was a pervert!
The atmosphere inside the elevator turned a bit awkward.
Vera cleared her throat lightly, breaking the awkward silence. "CEO, where are we going?"
"The hospital."
The hospital?
Vera looked at his face with concern. "Are you not feeling well?"
Was the little thing actually worried about him?
Kris glanced sideways at her, noted her expression, and cleared his throat lightly.
"Yeah, my throat hurts. Feels like I might be catching a cold."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Vera quickly pulled a disposable face mask from her bag and put it on.
He, however, was instantly infuriated. He turned around, staring at her.
"What, afraid I’ll infect you?"
"I’m just taking precautions. If I get sick, won’t it affect my work?" Vera reached into her bag, pulled out a mint, and offered it to him. "Here, have this. Your throat will feel better after eating it."
It was a convenient gesture, especially since Yola Dowry had given it to her and she didn’t even like the flavor. She was just regifting it, really.
Being sick was the last thing she wanted right now.
For one, it cost money. For another, it took up time. For someone struggling to make a living, when would she find the time or afford to be sick?
A mint candy in a green wrapper lay quietly on her fair palm.
He reached for it, but halfway there, he withdrew his hand.
"Bag."
Vera was slightly startled, then handed him her bag.
The man raised an eyebrow.
"Unwrap the candy."
Vera pouted.
He had hands of his own, yet he was asking someone else to unwrap a candy for him! Why not just ask her to feed it to him while he was at it?
Grumbling under her breath, she unwrapped the small candy packet and offered it to him again.
The man leaned against the elevator handrail, hands in his pockets, showing no intention of taking it himself.
Vera raised her eyebrows, held the candy to his lips, and only then did he open his mouth to accept the ring-shaped mint.
The moment the candy entered his mouth, its coolness seemed to soothe his temper, and the corners of his lips curved into a slight smile.
Vera, standing beside him, shook her head.
So childish! He wasn’t a kid, yet a single candy from her could make him that pleased.
DING!
The elevator doors slid open. Kris lazily stood up and stepped out of the elevator. She hurried to follow, sticking close behind him.
Kris suddenly stopped in his tracks. Caught off guard, Vera stumbled into him, instinctively reaching out and grabbing his waist to steady herself.
Kris turned with a grin, looking at Vera as she quickly retracted her hand.
"What, falling for me?"
"Not at all."
"You don’t like me?"
"Ah... of course not! How could I possibly not like you, Mr. CEO?"
"So, do you like me or not?"
"I like you! Very, very much!"
Clever girl.
Kris took out his car key and opened the car door.
"Get in!"
They each got into the car. Kris placed his hands on the steering wheel.
"Seatbelt."
"I’ve put it on," Vera smiled at him.
He wasn’t blind, for crying out loud!
His slender fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel. He drawled, "Help me with mine."
Why doesn’t he just wear diapers, sit in a stroller, and get a nanny!
Vera secretly gritted her teeth. Nevertheless, she loosened her own seatbelt, leaned over, and reached for the seatbelt on his left to help him buckle it.
His head lowered, he subtly inhaled the scent of her hair, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Seeing her about to sit up, he lightly tapped the accelerator. The car jerked forward. Vera swayed and fell into his arms.
