CHAPTER 1602: CHAPTER 1596: JUMPING HIGH WILL KILL YOU

To the Level 7 zombie, everyone except Yong was no different from ants, posing almost no threat to it, with movement speeds as sluggish as snails.

It exhibited astonishing jumping ability, closing several hundred meters in an instant, crashing toward Yong’s position!

Yong’s reflexes were sharp as well. Just before it lunged, he raised the Tianguang, firing several laser rounds in quick succession, each one striking it with pinpoint accuracy. However, the lasers did nothing to impede the Level 7 zombie’s attack!

In the next moment, its massive body enveloped Yong entirely, its mouth opening wide enough to fit a basketball, rows of razor-sharp teeth descending toward his head!

"Yong!"

Ghost Head let out a yell, instinctively wanting to rescue him. But what could his strength accomplish? The thought flashed briefly, and he gave up—he couldn’t do anything, merely staring helplessly.

Brother Shi shouted at this moment, "Run!"

The Level 7 zombie’s target was currently Yong, so what were the others waiting for? With this command, Crooked Neck, Snapper, and Ghost Head immediately snapped out of it and, using all their strength, bolted toward the Bigfoot truck!

However, they didn’t notice that under the Level 7 zombie, Yong let out a guttural roar indistinguishable from a zombie. His eyes turned blood-red in the next moment!

His body began to convulse and twist as an aura unique to zombies emanated from Yong’s figure, startling the creature. It leapt away in fear, rushing to a distant spot before turning back to warily stare at Yong!

Heh-heh~

Yong emitted an eerie laugh as he slowly rose from the ground. Standing up, he twisted his distorted body, his crimson eyes returning to normal.

Then came his next move—raising the Tianguang, firing one shot after another with lasers screaming through the air, aimed squarely at the Level 7 zombie!

Roar!

The creature growled ferociously, showcasing its menace. Like a ravenous wolf, it crouched low, its bloodthirsty gaze fixed intently on Yong’s every move. It completely disregarded the lasers from the Tianguang, instead remaining alert for other actions Yong might take. Ghost Head and the others didn’t yet understand, but the Level 7 zombie knew full well—this "human" was the same tier as it, a peer!

It hesitated, no longer recklessly charging ahead as before.

But Yong didn’t care what it was thinking. While firing the Tianguang, he retreated step by step toward Brother Shi and the others. Upon seeing Yong unharmed, they stood momentarily stunned.

"You’re okay?"

"How did you do that?"

"I thought you were just a Level 2 New Human?"

Faced with their skeptical gazes, Yong didn’t answer. Half their questions didn’t even make sense to him, nor did he know how to respond.

Ghost Head studied Yong, taking some time to reluctantly accept that this "monster" was indeed a Level 2 New Human. Still, it seemed utterly unbelievable!

Surviving a Level 7 zombie’s jaws, hitting every shot on such a fast-moving target—such feats were nothing short of legendary, something one could boast about for generations!

"Stop talking! Let’s move!"

After a brief moment of surprise, everyone quickly snapped back to reality—the danger was far from over.

Picking up their pace, they ran toward the Bigfoot truck, their eyes lighting up with hope as it came into view. Meanwhile, the Level 7 zombie behind them seemed stunned by the attacks, lazily trailing along in small steps, not daring to lunge forward. This gave Ghost Head and the others extra time.

Elsewhere, Bald Head, who had fallen, stood up quickly, turning back to see the massive zombie horde surging like a tidal wave. Terrified, he fled in panic, shouting to Ghost Head and the others above, "Hurry up and help me! Help me now!"

However, Bald Head’s blood scent had excited the zombies, making them roar angrily. Fortunately, most zombies in this horde were standard ones, but the situation was far from optimistic. Amid the flood, towering figures began to emerge, shoving aside their kind as they advanced toward Bald Head step by step!

The situation above was dire enough; going down would be suicide!

They were only three or four hundred meters from the Bigfoot truck, while Bald Head needed to cover at least a kilometer to climb back onto the overpass—they couldn’t afford to wait for him.

Sparing Bald Head a quick glance, they initially wanted to abandon him, leaving him to fend for himself. The problem was, Bald Head was carrying their food stash—their lifeline. Just that one detail made it impossible to desert this liability!

"Ma De! How the hell are we supposed to save you?"

Crooked Neck shouted toward Bald Head. Bald Head opened his mouth to respond, but nearly passed out from exhaustion several times. Glancing back at the densely-packed zombie horde jolted his nerves into action, forcing him to inhale sharply the dry, suffocating air. With a voice hoarse enough to sound like fire erupting, he croaked, "The truck... The truck—it has climbing ropes. Toss... Toss them down! Hurry... Hurry up! I... can’t run much longer!"

Stealing another look at the horrific tide of undead, Bald Head inwardly cursed—but also benefited from the density of the swarm. Had it not been for the horde slowing the progress, those Level 4 and Level 5 zombies would’ve caught him already!

Relentless, he ran parallel to Brother Shi and the others on the overpass. Before long, Ghost Head and the group reached the collapsed section and arrived at the Bigfoot truck. Brother Shi was the first to climb inside, while Ghost Head rummaged through the vehicle. Quickly, he found the ropes Bald Head had mentioned, though the length seemed insufficient...

"Forget it!"

Ghost Head didn’t waste time thinking further. Taking the bundle of ropes, he ran to the edge of the bridge, grabbed one end, and tossed the rest down below!

The ropes unfurled rapidly, but just as Ghost Head had feared, they were short by five or six meters, nowhere near enough to reach Bald Head.

"It’s too... too short!" Bald Head panted, shouting hoarsely from below. Ghost Head yelled back, "Jump! Jump and grab it!"

"Jump... Jump... My damn legs are dead!"

The horde closed in tightly behind him, forcing Bald Head into relentless motion. Ghost Head followed alongside him, keeping the rope within reach. Bald Head leapt repeatedly to grab it, but his stamina was rapidly depleting. Initially, he could manage jumps of two to three meters, but as fatigue set in, his jumps became lower and weaker. Meanwhile, the others had started the truck the moment they climbed onboard, Crooked Neck at the wheel, driving alongside Ghost Head.

Glancing back, Yong saw the Level 7 zombie starting to accelerate, launching another pursuit. Driven by desire for prey, its hunger grew apparent, intensifying Ghost Head’s urgency.

"Would it kill you to jump higher?!"
