I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 1659 - 1653: This Guy is Reliable
CHAPTER 1659: CHAPTER 1653: THIS GUY IS RELIABLE
Wu Zhixiong’s gaze shifted from the distance to Brother Shi, but Brother Shi was also looking at him. They had thought the center of Sanctuary City was safe, but now it seemed otherwise. Without a destination, where could they go?
Level 4 zombies and above were everywhere on the streets, making it impossible for them to linger too long. They were at a loss, their eyes scanning around aimlessly, unsure of what to think.
Brother Shi looked at the more than a hundred meters tall building nearby. He was contemplating whether to run up there. The zombies in the Sanctuary City were all Level 4 or higher, and zombies of this level typically had massive bodies, making it difficult for them to enter buildings. As humans, entering buildings seemed relatively safe.
Wu Zhixiong saw his expression and instantly understood what Brother Shi was thinking. But as soon as their eyes met, Brother Shi fell silent. Indeed, for this zombie tide, hiding inside a building seemed quite safe, but they couldn’t ignore the battles between high-level zombies and high-level new humans!
The battles between the two sides had long left Sanctuary City in tatters. One could often see buildings in the distance collapsing due to the shockwaves from the explosive power of those high-level fighters. If they were unlucky and a battle happened right here, they would die without even knowing how.
Brother Shi’s eyes were filled with sorrow. He deeply understood now what it meant to be an ant—just like them!
Struggling to survive in the barely detectable cracks of a giant’s breath, even an unintentional breath from those "giants" could easily take their lives!
He returned to Sanctuary City with a single goal: to kill zombies. But now, under such circumstances, let alone killing zombies, whether he could even survive was a question. He didn’t know if what he was doing was right or if he was merely acting on impulse without a shred of rationality!
Now, the role he could play in this battle was negligible!
Perhaps he should have listened to his brother’s advice long ago never to return to Sanctuary City. He should have gone to a safe place. Losing hope in life because of his brother’s death, he wandered in a daze every day, dying in a forgotten corner, or perhaps transforming himself into a strong person like his brother! No longer being that ant!
The expression on his face was one of struggle. He was contemplating whether to hide inside the building, but it seemed the heavens made the decision for him. The next second, all three of their faces changed!
At the other end of the street appeared a massive group of zombies, countless Level 4 evolutionary zombies converging, forming a dark purple wave rushing down the street. The dense growls had turned into pure noise. The three didn’t dare hesitate anymore, and under Brother Shi’s lead, they dashed into the building!
They could no longer worry if hiding in the building would be affected by the aftershocks of battles between high-level new humans and high-level zombies. Their survival depended entirely on the mercy of fate.
Once inside the building, the two ran up dozens of floors without stopping, drenched in sweat, only sitting down in an office once they could no longer hear the howls from below.
"Phew~ Haha, I’m exhausted~"
"Ha..."
Brother Shi sat down, tossing his weapon aside, while Wu Zhixiong casually placed Ghost Head on the floor against the wall, and bent over, panting hard. They were clearly knocked out by the exhaustion.
Ghost Head moved his arm slightly. The pain wasn’t as sharp as before, which made him a little happier.
"Sigh..."
He suddenly turned to Wu Zhixiong, who, noticing his gaze, looked back.
"What is it?"
"Well, thank you for earlier. If you hadn’t saved me then, I’d probably be dead now," Ghost Head said sincerely. When escaping over the ruins earlier, Wu Zhixiong was within his rights not to save them. To choose to save them required immense resolve, and that was already moving enough, especially since they hadn’t even known Wu Zhixiong for a day.
In any case, the action from earlier proved that this guy is trustworthy!
Wu Zhixiong’s gaze shifted from Ghost Head to Brother Shi. Brother Shi didn’t speak, but merely responded with a smile.
"... You don’t have to be so mindful. I don’t even know why I did it. Perhaps I had a little selfish motive..." Wu Zhixiong paused, fell silent for a while, then looked at the two again. Brother Shi and Ghost Head were waiting for him to continue, and Wu Zhixiong went on: "You don’t need to think about repaying me... If you really must, I hope that in the future if I encounter danger, you’ll save me as I did for you..."
There was some hesitation in Wu Zhixiong’s latter words, but after hearing them, Brother Shi and Ghost Head exchanged smiles. Ghost Head was the first to speak up, "You bet!"
After he shouted those four words, a few seconds passed, and the three of them exchanged knowing smiles.
Compared to being on the ground, inside the building, their ears enjoyed relative peace. The deafening artillery fire and pervasive zombie howls were significantly muffled by the walls. Finally, the three could relax. However, this sense of safety was temporary. They had to regain their energy within this limited time.
But accidents don’t happen as one anticipates. Without any high-level fighter battles spilling over into this area, about ten minutes later, a massive commotion erupted outside. The ground shook, causing the building to tremble. The three were shocked and thought the tremor was unrelated to them. But to be safe, Brother Shi went to the window to look down. All he saw were zombies, or rather what was left of countless torn-apart mechas, helplessly sprawled over the road and trampled by one zombie after another.
"What happened?" Ghost Head asked.
"Didn’t see," Brother Shi shook his head and moved to another window to look down. There was nothing. He tried another window, and this time, he saw a seven-meter-tall Level 6 zombie squeezing into the building, his face turned pale!
"What the hell!"
Instinctively, he cursed. Hearing his voice, Wu Zhixiong rushed over to Brother Shi, eyes widening when he saw the Level 6 zombie drilling into the building. Its target seemed to be them?
One must know the higher the level of a zombie, the keener its sense of smell. A zombie of such a level could sniff out human scent from a kilometer away. He refused to believe there were other people in the building because there were no other biological scent waves around them!
