CHAPTER 2006: CHAPTER 1999: THE FINAL FAREWELL

As soon as Chi Biyi’s voice came through, the previously noisy public channel immediately fell silent, and all the soldiers in the transport plane with him turned their eyes toward him.

Those gazes carried a myriad of emotions that made Chi Biyi lack the courage to face them directly.

He could only think of two outcomes, but no matter which result, it should be unacceptable for the soldiers, and he couldn’t offer much compensation.

His words created a tense atmosphere, and Chi Biyi no longer spoke and simply waved a hand, shouting to the soldier ready at the pilot seat: "Let’s go."

The transport planes gradually lifted into the sky, expelling mysterious gas to ward off the horrifying zombie birds lurking in the sky, their piercing screams like nails on a chalkboard, unsettling everyone!

From the propulsion output port, tail flames stretching two to three meters spewed out, accompanied by a loud roar, the transport plane flew rapidly toward the location of the Dried Leaves Sanctuary entrance.

Woo~

At the same time, piercing sirens blared again from "Sky Continent," echoing in the already devastated Cloud Gorge Base. Countless helicopters circled in the air, oppressive broadcast sounds infiltrated everyone’s ears, causing chaos, quickly suppressed by soldiers maintaining order.

Amidst the ruins, two people reluctantly broke their embrace, Yi Huangcheng listened to the broadcast, gazed eastwards for a moment, then looked gently at the woman before him.

"Is the Northern Zombie King arriving soon?" Long Yingjia looked at him worriedly, meeting again after ten years, she didn’t want her man to face such danger.

It’s the Zombie King after all!

Yi Huangcheng nodded. Just then, as a transport vehicle passed by, he turned his head to see Huang Quanjiu and Bai Huipeng inside through the window. At the moment their eyes met, the three of them nodded simultaneously, then the transport vehicle stopped about thirty meters behind him near the intersection.

"I should go." He said to her, but the next second Long Yingjia grabbed his hand.

"Don’t go, okay?"

"I can’t. We all have to do what we can. In the coming war, which none of us can escape, I’m no exception. Plus, it’s for our future together, understand?"

"But..."

"Alright, Khan has already given me the Divine God Armor, I’m confident. You go inside first."

"..."

"Go ahead, just live well."

With those words, Yi Huangcheng pulled her along, heading toward the sanctuary entrance. Long Yingjia, an ordinary person, studied medicine before the Apocalypse, with some knowledge reserved. Among the thirty thousand people entering the Dried Leaves Sanctuary, she was one of them.

This was perhaps Yi Huangcheng’s greatest comfort.

She followed him, pulled along to the sanctuary entrance, wanting to say something, but each time upon seeing his determined back, she fell silent.

When they reached the soldiers at the entrance, and showed the relevant documents, Yi Huangcheng finally let go of her hand.

He told her: "Go inside, don’t worry about me."

Long Yingjia felt a surge of irritation, wanting to shout "Can’t you think about me?" but the words choked up in her throat each time.

Yi Huangcheng had always cared for her. Initially, he agreed with Tang Ye to restrain the Zombie King purely out of foolish zeal, but now, he had no choice!

They can’t just live for the present; they also want a future, which requires fighting with their own hands. Living in a world ruled by zombies, humans as insignificant as grass, what future can we speak of?

Realizing this, she was unable to say what she’d planned to.

"Once it’s all over, I’ll come to fetch you, don’t worry." Yi Huangcheng reassured her, but these words seemed to have little effect, leaving Long Yingjia a bit despondent, until a soldier beside her reminded: "You should go inside; standing here blocks others."

Startled by the words, she nodded hastily and walked toward the entrance.

Behind her, Yi Huangcheng watched her silhouette, his lips tightly pursed, suppressing something until taking a deep breath and turning around to head in the opposite direction.

It was time to do his part.

Unexpectedly, Long Yingjia turned her head after walking only a few steps inside, shouting loudly at Yi Huangcheng’s back: "Yi Huangcheng, promise me, you must come back alive to see me!"

Her words stunned Yi Huangcheng’s expression momentarily, though she couldn’t see it. He stopped, watching Bai Huipeng and Huang Quanjiu nearby smoking, without turning back.

No time for hesitation now; he mustn’t look back!

Temporarily forgetting everything until it’s over, to see the old flowers and the beauty still here, while being alive himself.

Seeing Yi Huangcheng not turning back to look at her, Long Yingjia wanted to say more, but two soldiers blocked her. One said: "Hurry up inside, there’s no time left."

She glanced at the speaking soldier, and wanted to go out, but was blocked by both soldiers reaching out. Trying to rush through was futile; both soldiers were Level 3 New Humans, an ordinary person like her couldn’t get past.

"Move out of the way!" She shouted angrily, the soldiers hesitated and glanced back at Yi Huangcheng. Seeing no response from him, their expressions turned stern.

"Ma’am, don’t act rashly, it’s for your sake, and please don’t interfere with our work!"

"Go inside."

Calming down, realizing she couldn’t go out, she took a deep breath, ignoring everything to shout again: "Yi Huangcheng, remember, I will always love you!"

Her words drew countless gazes, striking Yi Huangcheng’s heart like turbulent waves against rocks, his previously loosened lips tightly pursed again, tears uncontrollable formed at the corners of his eyes.

Wiping his eyes, he restrained the urge to turn back, silently responding in his heart.

"Jia, I always love you too."

...

As Long Yingjia’s figure disappeared into the sanctuary entrance, Yi Huangcheng approached Huang Quanjiu and Bai Huipeng waiting not far away. Bai Huipeng pulled out a cigarette from a pack and handed it to him, joked: "Orange, I really f*cking envy you, having a girlfriend unlike us, having no one to say goodbye to at all."

Yi Huangcheng forced a smile, shook his head, quickly lit the cigarette after taking it, yet upon seeing their disheveled looks, frowned: "What happened to you two?"

"Hey, recently our leader fought with Su Sigui, we intended to help but were immediately held back."

"Su Sigui’s people did it?"

"Who else? Luckily, no injuries, but no idea who won on the leader’s side."
