I am the Zombie King of the Apocalyptic World
Chapter 2007 - 2000: Road of Death
CHAPTER 2007: CHAPTER 2000: ROAD OF DEATH
"This destruction... was it caused by the battle between the boss and Su Sigui?" The words left Yi Huangcheng somewhat flustered, as he hadn’t received any prior information. Tang Ye’s actions nearly destroyed the Cloud Gorge Base, and he assumed that a reckless royal zombie had angered him.
But this wasn’t his fault for not knowing, because most of the chaos was caused by Tang Ye, while Su Sigui, who fought against him, seemed non-existent in comparison.
In the apocalypse, whether it’s high-level zombies or high-level new humans, they prefer brute force over combat wit. No matter how rich their battle experience is, it all seems insignificant in the face of level suppression, so the destruction caused by high-level battles is often immeasurable.
However, Su Sigui was entirely different. In combat, she excelled at focusing her force precisely, hitting where it mattered most!
To achieve this, one must have an exact understanding of their own power! This alone stumps most people!
And it’s something many cannot fathom.
"You didn’t know, did you?"
"I honestly didn’t... So, the boss changed his mind?"
"Not sure..." Bai Huipeng and Huang Quanjiu shook their heads together.
"We still don’t know what the boss is thinking. We only know that Chu Zha and his team just left Cloud Gorge Base, heading north."
"What about the boss?"
"Haven’t seen him, he should still be at Cloud Gorge Base. If he had changed his mind, we would have already gotten word."
Yi Huangcheng fell silent for a moment after hearing this and then asked, "So what are you guys going to do next?"
"Continue with the original plan, we’ll notify Dong Wenlu and the others, after all... what follows is a matter for us humans."
"Alright, I’ll go with you. Hey, I have a question. The Zombie King from the extreme north is approaching, what about Kamutos in the south?"
"I heard Su Sigui will handle it personally."
"But if she does that, what about the Zombie King from the extreme north?"
"The Zombie King from the extreme north is less concerning. If we let Kamutos get close, we might as well get ready to turn into a pile of sand."
"I’ll try to hold back the Zombie King from the extreme north."
"You?"
"Orange, are you confident?"
Yi Huangcheng’s words startled the two. They knew Yi Huangcheng’s task was to hold back a Level 9 entity, assuming he’d pick the weaker Hatred, as it’s a common tactic to pick the easier target. But they didn’t expect he’d opt for such a heavyweight like the Zombie King from the extreme north!
In response to their question, Yi Huangcheng bit his lip and shook his head: "Don’t know, guess we’ll see..."
"Hey, be careful. By the way, how’s the Divine God Armor functioning?"
"It’s okay." He gave an ambiguous answer, but deep inside, he knew exactly how effective the Divine God Armor was.
On the way to find Long Yingjia, he had already killed three Level 8 zombies. What can be said... attacks from similarly evolved zombies of the same level had no impact on him, it was like he’d turned on an invincible cheat mode! Just a slight shock.
But against Level 9 entities, he wasn’t sure. The power difference between Level 8 and Level 9 was like heaven and earth!
He wasn’t sure if the Divine God Armor would protect him from all the malice of a Zombie King!
"Sigh..." Bai Huipeng exhaled a long breath of smoke, casting a deep look at Yi Huangcheng. Not knowing what to say, he could only silently pray for him in his heart.
"Get in the truck." Giving him a pat on the shoulder, the three of them boarded the transport truck. Huang Quanjiu gave a word to the soldier in the driver’s seat, and the truck started heading east.
On the way, Huang Quanjiu asked Bai Huipeng if he had headphones, only to get a negative response.
"Nope, why do you need headphones?"
"To listen to music."
"At a time like this, you listen to music?"
"Why not? Not knowing how much longer we can live, relaxing a bit before dying isn’t right?"
"Right, right, but I have no headphones, my phone got f*cked up too."
"Tch, boring." Huang Quanjiu said disdainfully, and beside him, Yi Huangcheng asked: "Want to hear a song, why not sing it yourself, the relaxation effect would be better?"
"Forget it, I’m tone-deaf."
Huang Quanjiu waved his hand, quickly declining, but Bai Huipeng was intrigued, "Yeah, sing it yourself!"
"F*ck off."
"How about we sing together?"
"No way!"
"Come on, Old White, you start!"
"No chance." Bai Huipeng shook his head, but in the corner of his eye, he noticed the soldier in the driver’s seat, suddenly had an idea, and quickly said to the soldier: "Hey buddy, can you start it off?"
The soldier awkwardly smiled, shaking his head in refusal.
"Me... I’ll pass..."
"Alright then, Orange, you do it."
Yi Huangcheng thought for a bit, and didn’t directly refuse: "Are you sure?"
"Whoa! Go ahead!"
"Here goes!"
"Ready~ Set!"
Yi Huangcheng took a deep breath, memories of singing loudly on horseback on the prairie with Huang Quanjiu, Dong Wenlu, and Hong Heixin came to mind. He didn’t particularly like that song back then, but now thinking back, he realized he might have fallen in love with it. Right now, it was fitting, and coincidentally, it was a song all three knew.
Once ready, Yi Huangcheng began to sing softly, not perfectly in tune: "After the embrace, caught a train to destiny..."
"On the platform, weary passengers wave goodbye."
Passing through youth, crossing the river of tears~
Footsteps scattered
The carriage quieted
Mountain winds blowing ticket stubs
In the old window seat
There are still many stories yet to be hummed to you
It waits silently in the tree hollow for the letter-receiving stranger
...
His voice wasn’t perfect, echoing over the ruins without melodic accompaniment, only shrill sirens responding, as transport planes roared overhead, the song accompanying them eastward.
Unconsciously, the soldier driving the truck also relaxed, perhaps moved by their singing. For a moment, death seemed a little less daunting.
The awe for Level 8 New Humans gradually faded, the soldier driving joined in the chorus.
The weather vane spun incessantly
Perhaps the wind has lost its way
In sketchbooks and guitar notes
We leaned against a lemon tree
Going round and round homeward
It’s not that hard
I will understand you~
All your pains
Because...
La la la la la~
Because I Love You...
...
The sun had begun its descent, masses of military and unnamed loyalist groups headed east like them, racing to build a defense line.
The truck drove further and further, bringing them ever closer to death.
PS: Song Name "End of the Journey - Way Home"
